I lived through that during American adventures in Vietnam and Iraq. My family was on my side. None of my neighbors were. I don't know how that alienation affected me. I am an old man. I seem to be fine. Some alienation is part of the bargain with living in democracy. Denial of basic facts is a relatively new phenomena. Be well.

When Finland gave up Karelia for peace they did not hand over their population. Except for very few exceptions, the people who lived in Karelia previously, built a new life in the part of their own home country that stayed Finland. He is right though, that Karelia used to be a flourishing part of Finland before it became part of the Soviet Union and now is in horrible condition.

Personal reflections are great, but everything happens for a reason, yes Germany and Hitler attacked the Soviet Union, but not everything is that simple. The same story with Ukraine, Putin does not need any territories, he needs peace on the border, the security of his country, in Ukraine the United States staged a coup and began killing dissenters, most of whom were in the Lugansk and Danetsk regions where the maximum concentration of Russians is, it is logical that this is not the case they began to look at it just like that, but even so, from 2014 to 2022 they tried to come to an agreement and solve everything peacefully, but the United States decided that it would be profitable to organize a full-fledged war on the border of a competitor and staged it, the United States and the Russian Federation fought even earlier in Syria, the United States is now illegally holding part of Syrian lands, they pump oil worth billions of dollars a year, but who cares... it's like Nord Stream 2, well, they blew it up and don't care who, who needs it...

I am Russian, and I left Russia immediately after the start of the war with Ukraine. To my great disappointment and regret, this man accurately described what happened in Russia. The very small young generation of the 90s turned out to be adequate, since we grew up without the influence of propaganda. The remaining generations were brought up from early childhood in total imperial propaganda, envy and bitterness towards the whole world. Unfortunately, Russians do not remember their history, which is also distorted by the emperors. For centuries they have been making the same mistakes and there is no end in sight to this process...

My mother was Karelian, she evacueted to Finland when Russians attached. She never visited Karelia after that, but she told a lot about it when we were children, with tears covering her eyes. She told about her father fishing in Lake Ladoka, and how they were swimming there etc. I did visit there once, few years ago. My mothers home village was about the way when she left, it really was like I had a change to go back in time. And I did swim in Ladoka, too. Nostalgic trip. My grandma was from Karelia and escaped in the nick of time before the Soviets invaded. She did go back in the 90s to see her old house, but it had been destroyed and all that was left was a derelict shithole. My own ancestry is an exact mirror of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's. I have no Finnish background nor friends. Yet I feel the strongest sense of outrage over Stalin's theft of Karelia, that it is a GREAT historic wrong waiting to be corrected. Every time I hear about some war of expansionism by the Orcs in our recent history, from Georgia to Ukraine to God only knows where next, my mind always returns to the original great theft of a huge chunk of a peaceful country that got completely f***ed over by Fascism & was abandoned by the Western Allies for simply being unable to protect itself from either of its wretched enemies...in TWO subsequent wars between 1939-1945! So when the rest of the world experienced a single uninterrupted War, Finland really experienced THREE! And for all that, Stalin's unprovoked & bloodthirsty aggression towards the Finnish people was rewarded in the end; & this grave miscarriage of justice has been COMPLETELY ignored in the British & North American literature about the history of WWII. I am shocked that I hear no one pointing to Karelia as an example of what a frozen conflict in Ukraine is going to look like if we don't ensure their TOTAL victory over the evil 👹Orcs👹; never mind what the Georgians can look forward to if NATO doesn't destroy the RuZZian state by defeating it militarily so that it can collapse in on itself, AGAIN, like it did in 1991! He was still convinced that "Il Deuce" was the greatest leader the world ever had, and had posters of him in his house. He quoted him all the time. I also knew a german guy who could spout Mein Kampf from memory, and always tried to convince me of anti-semitism, eugenics, physiognomy, and the "uber mensch". Don't be so smug. Tonnes of people in our society can't think for themselves. There was a school class with an aquarium in it, and when the fish flopped out of its tank by accident, and was flapping itself on the floor trying to breathe, the children of the class all stood around watching, but all the students were too afraid to pick up the fish and put it back, because the teacher had before given the order to not touch the fish, so they thought they'd rather let it suffocate then break the rules of the class. Only one boy in the class, who couldn't handle it anymore, took his gut feeling and put the fish back in the water.

As a Hungarian, I completely understand this man. I was raised under "socialism," but the situation in Hungary today is far worse. Viktor Orbán is a close follower of Putin and employs similar tactics. Hungary risks becoming a mirror image of today's Russia: Orbán is undermining education and healthcare, controlling the media, and consolidating power. In 2010, he secured 50% of the vote and immediately began altering election laws, making it nearly impossible to defeat him if he wins 30% of the vote. Unlike a genuine political party, Orbán operates without a strong base; he possesses the authority to unilaterally change any regulation within a day due to his control of 2/3 of parliament. Imagine: a mere 30% of the vote translates to 67% parliamentary control. Orbán, like Putin, exhibits dictatorial tendencies and displays concerning body language, leading some to suspect mental health issues. This is a cautionary tale: never, ever grant a politician unchecked power, as the Hungarians did in 2010. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and anyone in such a position can become a monster. This political "virus" is spreading, infecting countries like the U.S. with Trump. Please, be mindful of your vote and choose wisely!

Viktor Orban has been in contact with the former Solntsevo criminal group since the 90s. Russia has a huge amount of criminal dirt on him, including child molestation. Therefore, he will dance as the Kremlin tells him, otherwise he will be finished. You can say your Prime Minister is a member of a Russian international criminal group from which he will not leave even if he wants to. His biggest dream is to get off the Kremlin hook and not be held accountable for his crimes. This will not happen, he will end up in prison.

@@lisette2060 " I actually admired Hungary until that deeply corrupt maniac came into power." - now there's 2 of us, and I'm from Hungary. Sadly, the conclusion of the past 14 years is that (most of) the people of Hungary need a daddy figure. If they see people arguing within one party, they immediately think they are not trustworthy because they can't even agree with each other, even though that's the right way of finding the right solution to a problem, as opposed to never second guessing "the one leader's" every decision. People born in the ex-Soviet states grew up in a similar atmosphere. It's just mind boggling that it doesn't just apply to ex-Soviet states: just look at what's happening in the US, with Trump (a politician with 90+ criminal charges, impeached, proven to have lied even to his own voters a bazillion times, supported and possibly orchestrated a coup attempt against US democracy) claiming to start a literal dictatorship and his voters even cheering him for it. Far right is on the rise all around Europe and the US; politicians becoming even more populist, more fascist, mysogynistic, raising hate within society against various cultures, races, sexualities etc. - it's like the world hasn't learned from the mid 20th century. Has everyone lost their mind?

Don’t you think the elites love democracy so much, because no one can organize resistance against their agenda, or a better concept, in which parasitism upon the work of fellow humans (biological a n d psychological humans) is absent? Anyway, Democracy is the dictatorship of the majority, and those , who control the mind of this majority by sophisticated propaganda and manipulation techniques are in control, and prevent the potential of collective intelligence from unfolding, mainly by divide and conquer,by rushing/agitating everyone against each other, (which results in collective square stupidity ) Wouldn’t a rational and reasonable dictator committed to the psychological development and the evolving of collective intelligence (mental, emotional and spiritual intelligence/the ability of solving paradoxical problems constructive) more democratic, than the hypocrisy of „liberal democracy „?

If you subject the people of any country to centuries of oppression, forced poverty, and propaganda, any country will be like that. Still, a surprising number of people are dissatisfied, but, unfortunately, the state can easily suppress them if they speak up.

It’s very sad to see that Finnish people don’t quite remember that Finnish government collaborated with Hitler at the siege of Saint Petersburg and cooperated from 1941 to 1944. Nether the less, Finnish troops and the troops of Vermacht have participated in the genocide of Soviet people ( especially with the plans of The Nazi Germany to destroy the population). Mannerheim was lucky enough not to end up like Hitler or Mussolini or any other accomplices that participated along with Nazi Germany. Don’t even start about the Molotov- Ribbentrop Act in 1939 (which was basically a repeal of the results of The Soviet-Polish war In 1921), simply because the European community along with Poland has in fact done the same deed towards Czechoslovakia In 1938 under the Munich Agreement.

@@romansharenda9293 Thanks from the reply! And yes, we remember happenings very well. At Winter War we get lot of help from France, Netherland and Italy not forgetting Sweden. Cont. war we trying to get help from US and England but no. Only possibility was Germany as we didn't want Soviet misery. And Soviet was attacker. Finnish groups stop an old Finnish border and of course Germans were quite angry about it. So it was impossible to Germans attack to the St Petersburg thru the Finland. Also we think that those jude things are quite strange for us so we didn't involved that. Later was complicated thing at the end of the war because Allies want that we remove the Germans via northern part of the country. My father tells me that there was some nonwritten agreement that we shoot just like warning shots, not to hit because of the previous help. Then the Allies think it's too slow (and it was) and they put ultimatum for us. So there was no other possibility than take stronger act. Because of that Germans burnt almost all northern part of the Finland and me personally understand them. Must also say that my father gets friends from the Soviet prisoners of war and one of them make very fine knife holster for my father, from aluminium. There was really fine made patterns as decorate. Just a few month ago I was gave that in to my son and also telling the story behind that. This was just shortly but still too many words. It is good that the history is true and not just some narrow view so thanks again from the comments.

@@romansharenda9293 Finnish people may remember the soviet union invasion 1,5 years before (winter 1939-1940) - a brutal war where they lost 29000 people (murdered) in just 3 months.

@@anaria27, First of all, Carl Mannerheim was infamously known as the part of the white army, that conducted the executions of the communists and socialists, as well as he participated in foreign intervention later on. Second of all, Finnish government has repeatedly refused to exchange with the lands with the Soviet Union ( by the way to withdraw the Finnish border from the Leningrad. Third of all, as you may know the offensive side would usually take more heavy losses than the defensive side. This is why the Soviet Union lost 80 thousand- deceased 250 thousand - wounded 1 thousand - captive Finnish army - 22 thousand - deceased. I don’t remember the numbers about the wounded.

@@romansharenda9293 to exchange lands? This is how you call it? Nice.. after that brutal war with soviet union, in early 1940, Finnish government had to decide whose side to take in 1941. And obviously that could not be the Soviet Union.

A lot of us found 1420 back when Russia invaded UKR 2 years ago 😊 Daniil’s team usually interviews in Moscow or outskirts, but I have not kept up with 2023 much, only recently looked back to here after Navalny’s assassination. In 2022 at times they’d interview in smaller rural towns outskirts. Most took place in the big metro cities areas. Some very wise elders & some elders very brainwashed or so afraid to speak their true thoughts on camera. Watch Feb 2022 videos onward. You’ll learn SO SO MUCH. Big credit to Daniil Orain & his 1420 team for doing so much for their nation 😊❤
