I am happy to have found your channel. My family were in Estonia till 1939 - yes, I am one of those Baltic Germans. At least my grandfather fought for Estonia in 1919 as an officer in the Baltic Battalion. I am happy to see the leadership Estonia is showing. I wish Canada would do as much as Estonia. 0.25% of the Canadian GDP would about $4.5 billion USD per year. I posted this elsewhere : When I joined the British Army in 1985, UK defence budget was 5.3%. When I left in 1997 it was 2.56%! There is no way you can say 2.5% by 2030 is a 'war mode/footing'.

Agree. 'War mode' is silly media hype based on ignorance of history. 2.5% is a level appropriate for a very stable quiet world, which we do not have now. As I recall, Perun mentioned a US estimate that it costs about USD 2 billion in total to maintain a mechanised infantry brigade (say 3000 soldiers). Wartime would cost much more. The US has advantages of scale but is an expensive society so other countries might be able to do it for less. The cost for each country will be different but it gives you an idea.

Especially with how anaemic growth has been under the Tories. That’d be getting chipped away just by inflation with how low it’s been let alone any investment that’d need to be made between now and then. It’d require some major economic turnaround that’d be worthy of the history books to make that level of spending enough to finance a major expansion of the armed forces

I still think Jake Broe's theory of the very careful wording of we don't condone Ukraine attacking oil refineries is just a message to Russia to say we didn't tell them to do that, not a message of don't do that. It's similar to how Russia has propaganda that they release that the western world is like that's stupid, but it's really to feed the Russians propaganda.

I agree, I think it’s propaganda for Russia, not an effort to restrict Ukraine’s ability to prosecute the Russians in warfare. Ukraine is attacking legitimate military targets, not civilian apartments, schools, hospitals and power generators. The Russians are destroying their infrastructure all by themselves, by not maintaining it.

If there's any genuine US effort to stop Ukraine from hitting Russian oil refineries, it's all just pre-election games-playing. Sure Biden doesn't want gas prices to go up. It will be bad for his chances. But in November the issue will be ancient history. In the meantime, Ukraine can ignore it.

At least you guys did have HAIR STYLES, I've been shaving mine forever because I have uncontrollable hair syndrome. The chains on the front bumper of that truck are also part of the anti-drone package, to keep the drones from flying under the truck before detonating. They can't extend the chain link fence down to the ground because it would quickly get ripped off by irregularities in the surface, but chains just slide up and over such things, and they don't have to go all the way to the ground because drones need a bit of clearance from the surface themselves. It's actually a pretty clever solution.

I'm in the UK and we're *definitely* expanding our military production right now. There's a factory near my house that produces stuff for military aviation and drones and they are building another factory right now, they started construction about a month ago. They're basically doubling production

In economics, that's called "vertical expansion". You've got an army. You don't expand horizontally, i.e. additional troops. You expand vertically meaning you start making your own supplies for the army you've got. Eventually, you own steel factories, iron mines, computer fabs, silicon mines . . . everything back to the origin of whatever your army uses.

Unfortunately, elections will be held in the EU in June, and there are strong fears of a victory of right-wing nationalist parties, which are largely financed by Russia. There is no reason to be optimistic about increased military spending. If Trump then wins in America, it would be a total disaster.

Artur, the American government is using a diplomatic concept called "plausible deniability". This is where they publically say to Ukraine, "Please don't hit Russian oil infrastructure" but then they look the other way when Ukraine does. As far as banning nuclear weapons in space, how has everyone forgotten that we did that in 1967. It was called the Outer Space Treaty and it was signed and ratified by 114 countries including the US and Russia (then USSR). There was no need for another treat, that one is still fully in force. If Russia wants to abrogate the treaty, that's up to them, but the vote on this new treaty is just gamesmanship by all parties concerned, as long at the 1967 treaty remains in force.

Artur, ask yourself, how is it possible that Russia could be making more heavy weapons that they are losing in Ukraine. They don't have the capabilities or materials. We've seen hardly any new BMPs, TANKS, ARTILLERY systems, etc in Ukraine, and those that have been seen have been destroyed. Loik at what Russian troops are using to attack Ukraine lines, Chinese golf carts, 25 soldiers on a single tank, troops using motorbikes, etc. If Russia was making so much you'd see the evidence.

The SADF special forces used bike squads in Angola and Namibia in South Africa's bush war against the Soviets and their proxies. They used them to great effect covering huge distances in hit and run attacks. But in Ukraine I fail to see how they will have any use except get you killed almost immediately

You do a great show ! I recommend the American book Skunk Works, they designed the U2 and the Blackbird and they invented the stealth F117, and maybe stopped the Cold War.

Yes Rehi, I totally agree with you! 3% starting NOW! I'm from Romania, an ex-comunist country. I KNOW what those fuckers did to our society for almost 45 years. The polish are smart pumping money into armament , even before 2022 . Offtopic: i have a certain set of technical skills wich would fit into the military industry, yet for 2 years i can't find opened jobs in that particular domain (currently still working for the civilian area..) And is just insane from my p.o.v. Like wtf??? I am a quite good (to say the least) at what i am doing, i could actually train new-comers into this industry , yet can't find any openings.. Is Europe sleeping?? Helooooo! Wake the fuck up!! The only available jobs for me are either in UK or...USA. I am willing to travel, I am willing to switch from metric to imperial , is easy, but the fucking bureaucracy is a nightmare!!! Wake up Europe!!!
