Im impressed at your decision to set this up slowly without rushing into it. So many (to many) people try to show how much they know by speeding through procedures like this and ultimately making a mistake or three and ruining the workpiece or the tool. You have gained respect and appreciation by your process.

I came up with a good alignment method when referencing off of an existing parallel bore. I went and got heim joints with eyes the same diameter as the boring bar and I welded bar ends into different lengths of dom tubing. They are basically adjustable link bars that allows me to perfectly line up the bore.

Given your experience and knowledge of line boring and the fact that you already own what is probably the very best line boring setup available, I would say that you gave S-Power a ringing endorsement. I’ve commented many times before on your videos about my fascination with line boring and desire to get into it. I believe, based on your experience as well as other S-Power customer review videos that I’ve watched, that this is a system that I could use and afford in order to get started. Thanks for your insights.

I realize that I like your vids for the great experience you display; but I also like it because you seem like a moderate, calm person unlike some die-hard guys in this field. Your shop is bold, not filled with propaganda posters (either side of the fence, propaganda takes us for more stupid then we actually are). It is all about welding and an important welder experience. Your vids make me see the importance of dual shield (I was a bit under the stick mode dogma). Thanks!

Well a great part 2 . Really enjoyed watching the review on the line boring kit . I agree there is always going to be teething problems but for the limited heads up on how to use it you did a fantastic job . For the price it seems a good investment for a start up item . As said a few improvements on certain parts could help in the long run but it's a usable tool out the box . Thanks for the overall time frame on the repair a lot of the time a couple of hours in a video really doesn't give the real time perspective with the hours it can take you to do the repair . And not a bad match on the paint . Thanks again fir a great video with great content .

Hi Greg, I just finished both videos on this repair and I have to say that it was one hell of a repair. That part must go through hundreds of cycles during a day of operation when you stop and think about it, so it is a little surprising that there is metal on metal contact between the arm and the pin and the other connection without having any bushings to take up some of the daily wear. It is all a bit much expecting the grease to do all of the work and we are all aware that not everyone is diligent with their daily grease patrol of their equipment. But then again what would I know? 😅 I noticed during the video that your press frame lower bar was flexing during the operation and you mentioned that it has bowed, so I guess that we can all look forward to when you get busy and Frankenstein the press! I love a good bit of Frankenstein equipment! 😅 Keep busy and stay safe! Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

so the bars should all be threaded m10 x 1.0mm pitch which is metric very fine I ended up retapping all the threads on my bars I have them from 1000mm out to 2500mm the measuring tool is very good it just takes a little bit of getting used to as its measuring tool stick out x2 +bar diameter to give you your bore diameter you need to sweep it across the top of the tool to find the proper height if you turn the adjuster 1mm it adjusts the diameter 2mm for mounting the motor I made up some short studs to make mounting easier it saves a lot of hassle ,to get round the bore welding issues cut the liner back a bit and screw it into the threaded part they are made too long that's why it arced inside they are very good machines and they don't cost a lot I am keen to see your thoughts on the facing head another top video 👍 to get around the issue of the welding tapering to the edge I sometimes swap the motor to the other side for reference I run 2 of these machines and got rid of my hydraulic one

Another job is done and it may work for a while, I don't know who engineered or designed that setup but it should have been oversized and bushing installed so the bushings would wear instead of the pin and arm. because you could see from the camera angles that there were areas where the pin was not touching the bore 100% better than you started with

CEE has a really nice line boring machine, and I'm pretty sure I've seen him use a runout tab, or pipe in this case, to weld at least one bore. That might be the solution that would fix your tapering weld situation here
@legionofanon
@legionofanon 7 днів тому
Or maybe as an alternative if it works, weld from the center out from both sides. I think you could do this with just two setups, step the first welds then fill in from the other side
@OFW
@OFW 7 днів тому
Yes, his machine is definitely nicer than this one. But this one was cheap and it works pretty well, that was a part of the test. A run out tab is probably the best solution, but in the time spent making one you could just weld the end by hand.

I don't ever expect to need to do any line boring but I would have to say that, based on the finish issues of burs and mismatched hole tapping of the bar holes - there are serious quality issues. I'm guessing that Milwaukee buys some components rather than make them so it could be a vendor issue but they owe a look at the entire system to the customer prior to pushing it out the door. I would hope they pay attention and fix these (and other noted) problems, being that the rest of the system seems to work adequately.

First, great repair/rebuild efforts! Probably an optical illusion from my perspective, but while you made the two bars parallel from one end to the other in the "y" axis, it looked like they were off from each other in the "x" axis. They just didn't look like they both were lined up measuring from the floor up to both bars... It looked like the arm had a slight twist motion to it from one side to the other. I'm sure that wasn't they case, but just an illusion from my perspective on screen... Thumbs Up!

I have several customers that have been wanting me to get into the line boring because they hate farming it out and so do I. That is in my price range to try it out and learn it. this was a very informative video! Because of the angle of the nozzle when you’re welding on the far side of the hole, what would happen if you clamped to say quarter inch thick copper plate up there to weld up against your welding, so you don’t run out on the wire and the?
