Gear s3 frontier for life. Bought it on launch in Jan 2017 at MSRP. But I'm happy I did. It has served me so well, everytime I look to upgrade, I don't find anything new or "upgrade worthy" in newer smartwatch. Battery is still solid, display is crisp, it doesn't lag and I love varied selection of Watch faces. My only issue is it's big and bulky for my rist.

Same, but my original S3 Classic died on me. Managed to buy an S3 Classic LTE model from Amazon. It hadn't been updated since 2017 and it worked great. Then I updated it to the latest software and same thing, it can't hold a charge. So sad.

My S3 Frontier is still running just fine. It still runs fast and has good battery life. I still like the look of the Frontier the best. I won't be changing any time soon cause this watch is still really great!

Thank you for mentioning the MST. My battery in the S3 died on me last year. I was so bummed about the new watches losing the MST that I just couldn't get myself to drop all that money for a new watch with fewer pay options. I use my watch at a lot of stores that still do not have NFC options. So I took a chance and ordered a replacement battery kit on Amazon for $21. Best decision I ever made. My watch feels brand new again. Although I'm 90% sure it is no longer water resistant. Also, I don't know how people are breaking these things. I've worn this thing every day since it came out, without any sort of screen protection. I'm clumsy, I work in construction and I bang my watch on things ALL. THE. TIME. No scratches on the glass and minimal wear on the bezel. This truly has been a solid watch.

@@donnacarter360 There's a kit you can buy on Amazon that comes with a battery and all the tools you need to replace it. Just beware that you will probably lose the waterproofing in the process.

Gear S3 was having features way ahead of its time. The watch was launched in 2016 and it is still having more features than 2021 smartwatches and are more sturdy than them

I had the original 46mm GW and now the 45mm mystic black GW3 and the heart rate sensor and step counter are much improved. The battery isn’t as good as the original one, but it easily gets me through the day.

Same here. I can't STAND all of the cheap plastic looking watches like the Apple watches. Samsung know's what they are doing with these Galaxy Watches. Who want's to wear something that literally EVERY other person has? I own a Galaxy Watch and I've only come across maybe 2 other people with one.

The S3's MST is a must. I think the rest of them are, besides the galaxy watch's bigger battery, are downgrades. I tried to upgrade to the galaxy watch 3 and didn't like it. Samsung pay would work 50 percent of the time. Now I know it's because they removed the MST from it. I am currently waiting to install the back cover on my S3. I'm still rocking this one since early 2018. I've had an S3 since it launched. I think it's pretty relevent. The Bluetooth is kinda choppy during runs. Over all it''s not bad. I like the gear S3

I'm sticking with my frontier I love the bezel on that watch. For some reason on the newer watches the bezel just isn't the same 🥺 I'm hoping Samsung will make another gear watch with the same bezel, but the latest technology. I'm just not feeling the new watches. I'll wait another year and see if they make another gear and if not I'll just have to upgrade to one of those.

I have had the frontier since the beginning.. it's military specs have proved its worth.. I put it through he'll and back and not a ding on it and work's fine... only thing I had to replace is the banda.

My Gear S3 Frontier is still in nearly flawless condition. I don't use the fitness features at all. I use it to text, phone calls, check email, weather and package alerts Etc... I use the MST payment support daily. The overall user experience on the watch 3 looks almost identical to my Gear, so for me personally, I don't see a need to upgrade. Absolutely Great Video! Great!!!!

I just pre-ordered the galaxy s21+ last night and with my $250 samsung store credit they gave me I bought a combo that included the Galaxy Watch 3 (45mm) and the new galaxy buds pro for $450 both items combined (which was $200 after they applied my credit). I currently have the S3 frontier watch and I'm happy with it so my plan was to list the Galaxy watch 3 and possibly the new earbuds on eBay . You helped confirm that's what I wanna do. Thanks.

Great Breakdown man. I have had the S3 Frontier for about 4years and it just finally broke on the back side . Now the 4 is out and honestly I just bought a refurbished s3 for $120. The battery life, heavy feel and still great to use in my opinion. Hopefully the 5 makes me finally upgrade lol

Thats the main reason I'm still rocking the frontier is the bezel and how it looks. It looks the best out of all the watches to me. I don't know why Samsung got away from the gear line 🥺

I own the frontier myself and I love that it's all black , so I just upgraded to the galaxy watch 3 45mm . The battery isn't that much smaller than my current watch and I'm hoping that it will work out for me . If the original galaxy watch was all black I'd probably have chosen that one

Frontier looks like some military/tactical gear with that gun metal colour plating an big bezel. Like it. GW3 pretend to be more elegant, slim, dressy, but I would still buy a GW mk1. Somedthing in between Frontier and GW 3 🙂. That massive stainless steel case looks cool.

Nice comparison! I ended up replacing my ancient Gear S2 I've used since 2016 with the Galaxy Watch. I got an open box copy on eBay for just $125 and even though this model is about three years old, this is still a major upgrade. This thing runs for days on a single charge!

Using it with my Galaxy Note 10+ (which I bought when they were on a huge sale at Best Buy in the middle of the quarantine here in California) Got the S3 Frontier as a gift from a friend who bought the newest watch! Works just fine for me! Will run this thing into the ground!

I get a solid two days of battery on mine too. I've had it for two years, use it all day long at work from 7am to 6pm. Batteries last if you drain them completely and charge them fully before disconnecting them

Every gear S3 I see is priced at 328+ for a new one like at that i might as well buy the stainless steel SGW3 with a bit more features or wait for that one to get renewed. Not that I'm surprised, decreased supply just leads to increased price. My Gear S3 capped out on the reboot screen (r.i.p.) so I just upgraded. Is it worth the upgrade even if you traded it in? Personally for me it was, the blood oxygen sensor is pretty important actually. There is a strong correlation between co-vid cases and low blood oxygen levels. While it isn't a diagnosis, a decent indicator is better than no indicator. Plus rose gold looks styling on warm - dark skin tones. My workouts seem far more accurate and I get better data overall. That's just me though! Decide what's important to you and how much you'd pay for it. Go from there

I think the S3 frontier is the best of them all overall. MST is the main feature that makes the watch worth purchasing. I won't upgraded unless they add MST. 🤷🏾♂️

It’s a no brainer for me, I’m upgrading my gear s3 frontier to the galaxy watch 3 aura black 45mm lte when I get a chance. I had my gear s3 for almost 3 years now my first flagship smart watch and enjoyed it thanks to all the updates push for this watch. Galaxy watch 3 has a bigger screen, better design than the previous, and improved health features are more than enough reason to upgrade at least for me.

Frontier gets me more compliments then any other smart watch ive had , especialy with a leather strap. apple watch is cool too but seems a bit dorky and out place in some outfits and occasions still Love the stainless steel one though .

bro...this is exactly what we need. this is exactly my issue atm. Ive had money on the side since the Galaxy Watch. Ive owned the Gear S3 Frontier since launch and the Galaxy Watch update was so incremental i didnt make the plunge. Now seeing the Watch 3, i still don't know if it's worth the upgrade...i was genuinely half expecting my S3 to have broken down by now but to its credit (and build) shes still rolling. We have a 24month warranty here in Aus though, so on month 23 i took it in for a service and they replaced the board and battery so she was as good as new after year 2.

My S3 Classic also won't hold a charge. I even bought another refurbished one from Amazon. It hadn't been updated since 2017, so it was working great and fine until I updated to the latest software version and now all of a sudden can't hold a charge... I'm wondering if it was intentional from Samsung.

I don't know where you're located but I've quite a few spare parts including a brand new battery and internal side buttons. My watch was not repairable due to internal corrosion to screen components caused by moisture.

Another solid review, I'm still rocking the Frontier that I bought in 2017, so it is about time to upgrade. The only thing holding me back is that I have been considering trying the iPhone 13 Promax (or 12s Promax) when it drops at the end of the year and if I do that I'd want the Apple Watch 6. I'm a lifelong Samsung user so that is a difficult decision for me to make.

Yeah if you’re looking to try an iPhone than wait because the Apple Watch is the better watch for iPhones although the Galaxy watches work with iOS too but just not in the same way as the Apple Watch

Just upgraded a few days ago from the gear S3. Main reason was for battery and memory. The battery might be smaller than the S3, but as of now it lasts much longer. My S3 barely lasts a day. If I leave it on when I get home, don't heavy use it during the day, not charge it, I will wake up to a dead S3. I took off the always on, brightness was always low, didn't use it heavy during the day, even switched to a face that didn't have a lot going on and it didn't make a difference. Read other users of the S3 Frontier had same if not worse issues with the watch. I still love the watch and held on to it until the Watch 3 came out and so far I am satisfied in terms of battery life with this smartwatch. Thanks for sure a great, detailed video comparison.

Love my 45mm GW3, got it on release day with a BestBuy discount through them . Knocked 57.00 off plus a 50.00 GC. Sold my fossil gen 5 garret and Samsung galaxy active watch. Got the GW3 nearly for free after that.

MST is everything for me. That is the only justification for spending the coin for wearable. Dedicated fitness trackers offer better features for less. And honestly, only about 50 percent of my area has functioning NFC. This should be the one thing they kept over anything else. The only other function I care about is notifications so I can tell at a glance if I need to grab muy phone to respond or not. But even there, not a selling point. The MST is it.

Hey! Enjoyed the videos. Very helpful. So, i was hoping I could get some input for a first time smart watch user. The price tag has a lot to do with it, but with being new to it, all I'm looking for are 1. Be a Samsung brand, 2. I want to talk and text on it, 3. I want to check notifications, emails, etc. 4. Just basic fitness features such as step, HR, etc. My wrist is bigger for a girl, so...size...either way. So, I was really hoping to get a recommendation. Thanks!!

Appreciate the comparison! I just took advantage of the Samsung promotion to trade in my Samsung Gear S3 for Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Not going to lie, other than the "new-ness" I wasn't as impressed with it and was going to return it. Why you ask? I'll mention the turn off though you may laugh. 1)Came with a leather band only (liked the rubber band from Gear S3) 2)When i turned it on and went through the watch... it feels EXACTLY like the old watch (i know knew sensors, but no current apps to use them!) 3)... and believe it not... the MAIN REASON i got disappointed in the Watch 3... after loading my Gear S3 backup to my new watch, my FAVORITE AND MOST USED WATCH FACE, "Chronograph+" (for those not familiar... it is the main watch face shown on the Gear S3 Frontier usually)... and it didn't transfer, it was not available, and I couldn't find it or buy it anywhere (I would have paid a few bucks to get it back). I got another 9 days to decide to keep or not... but your review has me leaning towards keeping it, mostly because the features are "coming soon"... hope they provide that face from S3! P.S. - starting my channel... more of a though provoking channel... or "fun philosophy".. check it out for something different! Thanks! :) Subscirbed!

Waterproofing is another difference too. I’ve got the Galaxy Frontier but want to upgrade just because I want to be able to swim in it. I’m thinking of moving up to the Galaxy.

Still Rock'n the Gear S3 Frontier! It looks, works, and feels like New! I easily get two 2 days of practical use with battery % remaining. It also fully recharges within 45 minutes. Why waste $$$ on BS upgrades? And, it has the MST feature. @Micdrop

Samsung "killed " the name "Gear" . In a few months (beginning of 2021) Samsung will probably launch the new Galaxy Watch Active 3. I like what Samsung trying to do : launch a new smartwatch every year but with different design ... Galaxy Watch 4 will probably come only in 2022 . This is better to me then what Apple is doing : launching the same kind of Watch every year with minor upgrade that can make their public sad that their expensive Watch was obsolete after just one year.

I switched from the Galaxy watch 46MM to the Galaxy Watch 3 45mm. Main reason. That heart rate sensor was TRASH it always falls off or breaks and Samsung make you fight on an known issue.

@@darrencarson4736 I believe the HR sensor on the Active was the same as the Galaxy watch. The HR sensor was accuracy was the reason I sent back my Galaxy watch

I love my GW but the heart/stress sensors is indeed not too accurate ,plus the stair floors count that goes nuts some days . Still I love this watch for the battery life and large and bright screen. I got a Galaxy Watch Active 1 as a gift last year from Samsung ... it has horrible battery life since it is super small watch and the brightness is very dim in direct sun light ... anyways it is awesome to correctly take my heart rate and stress level at all times so I use it when doing exercises instead the GW . I'm excited to get the GW3 45mm so I will get a design I prefer with the accuracy of a Galaxy Watch Active !
