Sawan Ka Mahina was my starting song before I started my program in All India Radio Indonesian Section in 1990s when I was studying for my Master and PhD at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. Many years have passed but I can not forget this beautiful song. Cycling from Munika to Parliament Street where All India Radio was located was easy then since traffic was less. What a wonderful days those student years.

Wow, was very lucky in 1983 to have witnessed the live show of Lata Ma'am with Nitin Mukesh Ji at the National Gymnasium in Suva Fiji. They did sing this number and the audience were just thrilled. That was a very good show which I still remember. This song is evergreen and sweet as honey.

This was the song I used to play it again and again when I worked as part time Radio Announcer and News Reader at the All India Radio's Indonesian Section while studying for my PhD at the School of International Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. I still love the song even today seventeen years after I completed my PhD and returned to Indonesia.

This was a hugely popular song when the film was released. Its beauty has remained undiminished through the decades.Like many of the songs of back then it beautifully captures the essence of that era. We were in school then. The shots on the river takes me to the Ganga at whose bank we grew up and which unlike now was was a full-bodied river then. Such a pleasure to feel this song once again.

आज फिर से यह गीत सुंना , बहुत बार सुन चुका हूं , फिर एक बार मंत्रमुग्ध हो गया , हर चीज बहुत सटीक और मन को हल्का कर जाती है। यही वह पहचान है हमारे गीत संगीत और आराधना की हमारे पूर्वजों ने सभी चीजों में एक सनातन ( न मिटने वाली , खोज ) कर हमारे लिये संभालकर रखकर हमे वह चीज दी है जो अमूल्य है । संगीत के राग हो संस्कृति हो , खगोल विज्ञान हो , आयुर्वेद हो , जीवन जीने की हर वह चीज जो जीवन को प्रभावित करती है , उसे अध्यात्म से जोड़कर इसे ईश्वर का साक्षात्कार बताया गया सभी मे यह भारतीय संस्कृति , परम्परा , अनमोल है , यह विश्व को दिशा निर्देश करती है।

Whenever I listen to this song, it brings tears in my eyes.. Such a beautiful composition, heart touching lyrics and sweet voice of Lataji and Mukesh... Especially Lataji's voice in this song goes straight to the heart.. Her sweet voice and soulful singing in songs like this is the reason that she is called Nightangel of India!!
