Ukraine is currently the most heavily mined country in the world. According to official estimates 30% of Ukrainian territory is contaminated with mines. This is the size of the territory of Croatia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg all together.
The Russian military mines roads, forest strips, agricultural fields, critical infrastructure, and even residential buildings. Russians also use prohibited types of anti-personnel mines. Civilians in the de-occupied territories are regularly getting blown up by them.
Who will bear the responsibility for this?
„Schemes“ obtained a flash drive that the Russian military left behind after their escape from one of their positions in Kharkiv region. Most likely it belonged to one of the deputy commanders for political work of the Balakliya group of troops.
Based on the data "Schemes" identified the Russian military, who were presented with awards and were being praised by their command for mining the occupied territories of Ukraine.
The journalists have been able to document what kind of prohibited ammunition the Russian military systematically uses, causing casualties among both Ukrainian military and civilians.
