I do think it's important to note she didn't do it all on her own. Someone could get discouraged, and be thousands of dollars in before they realize it's too much project for them to complete alone. It's most likely going to break down. A lot. Used buses usually have around 2m miles on the clock before they're decommissioned. And even buses that are only a couple years old have a habit of suddenly becoming completely undriveable over night, even after years of no mechanical problems. When you buy a used commercial vehicle, you're inheriting the sins of not only the previous owner but also the drivers and maintenance department. On top of that, by the time one does get slated for resale, it's in rougher shape than... Well, it's just on rough shape.

@superdave82484 місяці тому
First of all, this isn't "her" project. How do I know? The level of precision work. This was done by an experienced carpenter. Think I'm wrong? Let me drop a sheet of plywood on some saw horses, snap a chalk line for you to cut, and hand you a skill saw to cut it with. One thing I'll promise you is that you will see every curve in the wood where you either paused in the cut or had to readjust to get back on the line. About the only way a novice can even hope to stay on center is to run a jig for the cut. And no novice is going to know to do that. Or you spend about $2k in getting a table saw, miter saw, skill saw, supports for the wood, extra blades, power cords, and possibly even a small generator. And that isn't even accounting for the drill, bits, level, measuring tape and square. Then there is the demo and build tools. Hammer, sledge, pry bar, grinders, sander, sockets and wrenches, plyers, etc. And that isn't even accounting for any additional plumbing or electrical work that would need to be done. She is a young fairly attractive young lady with no obvious bruises, scabs, or cuts that any normal person would receive doing this. She also isn't dressed appropriately for this type of work (safety concerns). And is this where I point out there was no reason to sand the subfloor? it was being covered over by the wood laminate. So no need to sand it. She did it for show. No, she is either paying the guys who are doing this, or she is providing other "services" to get it done. At most, what she has in this project is the cost of materials. But the real problem is choice of vehicle. Not that there is a problem using a school bus, but for a vehicle to be retired by a school system it has some serious miles on it. And depending on the part of the country that bus came from, the entire under carriage might be rusted out from salt and brine from road coverage during wintery weather.

I didn't expect this video to go viral and also didn't record every bit of the build. Now I have enough knowledge that I don't need to ask people for advice. If I post another video I'll make sure to show more proof of me building out the bus for the misogynistic men who doubt that a woman could do something like this.

Problem with bus conversions is the same problem with all RVs... you're dependent on possibly old mechanical parts to work properly. When the engine or trans go south, the whole nice bus isn't usable unless you plan on permanently parking it somewhere.
@Shad2k84 місяці тому
well the money you saved + if you make friendship with a mechanic or a Man who know what he is doing ... then you have not issue at all . Everything can be rebuilt with a little know how ...
@pedalingthru27194 місяці тому
Really , is there some reason a person can not repower it or put in a new tranny? I just rebuilt the 6.7 Cummings in my bus for a little over $2100.00 in parts. So why would she have to park it some place ?
@htomc424 місяці тому
@Shad2k8 not always that easy. For example, joker @ better bachelor did a nice school bus convert, only to find weird trans problems once he got it on the road. More than one mech has tried to fix it.
@jamesobrien-lr3zm4 місяці тому
You're assuming a bus and an RV have similar engines, if someone shops correctly they could snag a diesel bus that could run upwards of 600 thousand miles. Since you're also building your own rig you could also avoid many issues that an RV struggles with (mold/mildew) but this is all determined by money, but still cheaper than an RV. Edit: I forgot to mention how dumb I think this woman is, her attempt is noble and it'll last her as long as she's willing to bake in the California sun with no Insulation.
@htomc424 місяці тому
@@jamesobrien-lr3zm I was actually thinking more along the lines that in both the bus and RV, that custom living area is integral to the mechanical portion, unlike a pull-behind trailer that can be towed by any vehicle with a big enough tow pkg or fifth wheel. Depending on how much money to put into it, on motor/trans/part availability, on whether you can find a mech that can diagnose the really tough problems, are all big ifs, especially if something happens while you're on the road in the middle of nowhere.
