About 8 minutes of describing chord extensions and a brief discussion of how to write a simple progression.
Considering you are all clamoring for it lol:

This guys lore is that he filmed both videos that are on his channel in the same day (same grey shirt), but in this one he has mustache and therefore has the ability to grow a mustache instantaneously

Off MInor is a good example of jazzy guitar parts. Great video!

They take their name from the title of a thelonious monk song, definitely an intentional nod to influences!

Great overview, I think folks don't realize how much of the OG skramz sound was due to jazz influence (7ths/9ths etc.) combined with hardcore/metal influence, but going in a more punk direction than a 'prog-metal' dream theater direction.
@notreally-sf3df
@notreally-sf3df 20 днів тому
Everyone knows that. 90s bands used to play with jazz acts (of their own age) and you've got bands named Swing Kids etc. Very obvious influence that everyone picks up on when they first get introduced.
@brainrottedindividual
@brainrottedindividual 15 днів тому
@@notreally-sf3df agreed, this doesn't just apply to screamo, the whole post hc/emo thing was a little indebted to jazz, even if sometimes only aesthetically. indian summer had obvious jazz influence, nevermind bands like the jazz(!) june, or ethel meserve.

my favorite jazzy screamo(ish) band is probably daniel striped tiger. criminally underrated band. their desert bird tape also had a stoner rock vibe to it.

Ahh the audio on this is a lot worse than the last video. Some noise-cancelling on the buzz, and some compression to even out your speaking vs your guitar would be rad - kind of hard to make out what you're saying, currently. Otherwise, thank you very much for the video!! I write hardcore grungegaze and this is really useful info
@notreally-sf3df
@notreally-sf3df 22 дні тому
Nah, don't spend any time fixing this. He could spend way less effort just getting a lav mic which would pick up the guitar too.
@djskram
@djskram 21 день тому
yeah i just need to get a mic stand, placement of vocal mic was not as good as i hoped it would be.
@anthonyparks505
@anthonyparks505 20 днів тому
It's not an issue or mic or noise-cancelling, it's a level check. UKposts sadly does not offer normalization, but a re-upload with the levels boosted to -8 or -10 would be helpful here. I am in my mixing room and this is about -15 dB down from other youtube videos.
@notreally-sf3df
@notreally-sf3df 20 днів тому
@@anthonyparks505 Wouldn't help at all, what the hell are you talking about? If that is your problem, get a level knob extension, they usually go up to 400-800%. Levels are on you, this is just a bad recording and placemen.
@anthonyparks505
@anthonyparks505 19 днів тому
@@notreally-sf3df You are partially right, in that you can always "turn up", but there is a distinction between external and internal outputs. The sound in the room is half determined by the power of your amplifier and/or powered speakers. The other half of the signal chain is determined by the digital output level, also called dB FS ("full scale"). 0 dB is full scale digital output. Most metal records get mixed to -8 dB FS, while classical/jazz stuff can go to -16 dB FS. This is independent of the output level in the room or over headphones. Relative to other UKposts videos, this video is about half as loud, and I would bet it is partially due to a lack of observation of the digital levels. His setup could benefit from better mic placement, but that checking the digital levels is just as important. UKposts, unlike many other streaming platforms, doesn't normalize output levels, which can sometimes be a problem because some videos can be much quieter than others. A company like Apple for example uses a technology called SoundCheck to do this kind of normalization for Apple Music.

@JFC108 10 днів тому
Low to high: C G C G C Eb. The tecnical/guitar geek name for the tuning is Cross-note C. Careful when your tuning that second string a half step higher than standard.

any screamo song reqs in this tuning?
@djskram
@djskram 17 днів тому
im sure a lot can be played in this tuning. recently i learned ‘misremembering constellations’ by sysc using this, and it worked pretty well. if you can’t play it in this open drop tuning, you can usually play it in a drop standard, you just gotta figure out what key you are in.
