When restoring this rusty old screwdriver, I first removed the badly damaged handle. The antique screwdriver should shine in a whole new shine - it should be made of gold! Therefore, I gold-plated the metal part using electroplating and a gold solution. The handle was remade from epoxy resin and gold flakes. But also steps like grinding, straightening, hardening, polishing and work on the lathe were necessary to make the old screwdriver fit again. I bought this antique rusty screwdriver from a flea market internet site. Please be sure to also note that this video is not just to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and escape from everyday life!
▶ What did I do ?! ◀
The old screwdriver was in bad condition, it was bent and the handle was already badly damaged all over. I could no longer use the handle, so I removed it. Then I aligned the screwdriver, ground it and hardened it afterwards. I heated it to 800 °C and quenched it in oil. Hardening produced slag on the surface of the metal, which I sanded off again. On the polishing stand I polished the surface to a high gloss and restored the " forgotten shine ". With the galvanizer and a gold solution, I gave the surface a shiny golden glow. I made the handle with epoxy resin and gold flakes in a simple jig. The final shape was given to the handle on the lathe. Finally, I doused the handle again with epoxy resin to get a smooth and shiny surface.
