Just want to express my appreciation for such a remarkably well-done and thorough presentation. This is of the best few presentations (imo) I've seen on the web for anything. I will continue to watch the rest of your course on your website. I have ordered one of your hackRF One radios and only wish it could get here faster (Not a cheap clone; I want to support you.) I get a feeling of confidence that it will be a quality product. I'm mainly interested in spectrum analysis and signal strength evaluation for optimizing cellular and wifi reception in remote areas, as well as antenna gain analysis on my own constructs.

This is freaking Awesome. Just ran this on a Raspberry Pi400. Might struggle with two radio stations as I'm getting a few overruns when moving the mouse around. Probably pushing the USB to the limit. Will download gnuradio for PC but will need a ubuntu boot. Thanks for doing this Michael. Took a punt at buying the HackRF One from Amazon and glad that I did. I wish we had these in my University days with Raspberry Pi as well. My Math would be a lot stronger than it is today.

For anyone watching this video in 2019 and getting problems with the WX gui use the following: QT GUI Range for slider, use the slider or knob option start will be lowest value stop will be hightest value step will be your tuning interval, try something like 0.1 for gain and 0.01 for freq Works perfect for gain and freq for your homework

Besides the GUI widgets being different this worked perfectly on an R820T and an E4000 based SDR, just need to keep samp_rate below 3.2MHz.

There are two things that I don't well understand: 1. How can isolate a frequency by a Low Pass Filter? My only explanation is that "osmocom" provide the all specter centered in the CH0 frequency. In this way a LPF can leave just the intended frequency. Is that right? 2. How a "multiply" operation between two frequency can provide on the exit the entire spectrum, but centered in another frequency (the sum of CH0 from osmocom and the new signal source)? Thank you!

1) Options block needs to be set to WX GUI to use WX GUI FFT Sink. 2) osmocom source block no longer in that position, now its under (no module specified) > Sources 3) on the gr-osmosdr block, there is a field called "Device Arguments", set that field to "hackrf=0"

Since WX Gui is not supported as of GRC 3.8 maybe this needs to be updated.

What kind of wattage can I get from RX and TX? I have heard it is 1mW to 30mW? That is not very much for hams. A simple handheld is 3000mW or 3Watts. Can a person get say 5000mW from a HackRF?

Just got my (genuine version from Great Scott Gadgets) hackRF One in today to replace my cheap-o (yet wonderful) RTL-SDR Blog V3. I’m having an issue with it. It is detecting frequencies quite variably. Signals detected show up as 5-10mhz off in one direction or another. It’s so off and unpredictable I cannot use it to listen to anything for very long in Cubic SDR. And cannot listen to anything using SDRtrunk. I’m currently downloading DragonOS to see if it runs better in Linux. But something is bad off.

How can you generate the python code of this flowgraph? Can I see how to simulate GSM Tx or CDMA in GNURadio? Thx

Hi, thanks for the lecture series. I installed gnu on linux 16.04 using "apt-get install gnuradio" command. Hackrf device is connected and "hackrf_info" gives the device specifications. When I installed GNU radio companion there was no sources tool in the right of the software gui window. I installed it using apt-get command. But now the problem is, when I connect osmocon source with WX GUI FFT Sink, the WX GUI FFT Sink does not read the osmocon source and the tittle of the WX GUI FFT Sink remains red and I cannot run the flow graph code. I searched online for the problem but I could not find any solution. Can you please

I guess this is now out of date. I've just downloaded gnuradio for windows and there are no WX blocks under "instrumentation". You'd think, that knowing these are things likely to be used by newbies like me. the developers would have left something like that alone. Apparently not.... Hi one and all. I am just looking for a bit of HELP ! I am thinking of buying a HackRF One. But I just need some helpful information. I have seen a thing by the name of the Portapack H2 But is that the same thing as a HackRF One, or is it something that you ADD to the HackRFOne. As I am new to SSR radio, and would like to have something that I can use when I am out and about. As I do NOT drive, I would NOT have any power supply and also it is not that easy to carry about a laptop or even a small tablet.
