The main factor keeping me from buying an electric car is the lack of charging stations in my area. I live in an apartment so I couldn't even recharge the car from my home. Trains are a great alternative to cars & buses. When I went to Spain the trains were so clean you could eat off their floors & it took us less than 10 minutes to get across town, while in Madrid. The lines (east-west/north-south) were marked by different colors so, you never got confused about which train to use. One entrance to the train was color coded for the east-west line & another was color coded for the north-south line. Easy Peasy.

@paulk5670
@paulk5670 Рік тому
Localally driven change is some of the most effective and longest lasting. Consider putting up a petition on your building's bulletin board, or going door to door to collect signatures to see if you have likeminded residents and go from there. Look at the cost savings of EV ownership and consider whether you would be willing to take on some of that and put it towards a small rent increase to amortize a portion of the costs and make a case to the owners regarding the longterm benefits of installing this. If your building is too small to support it and ypur own dinances limited, see if there are interested parties in other budings in the area that could pool and come to an agreement on shared use, or reach out to some local businesses and let them know there is interest in the community and ask if they'd ever consider installing a few stations. A hardware store in my area has built a number of charging stations-people that come to grab a charge stay to browse goods. It's a similar model to providing parking in the first place, people that drive EVs tend to be more affluent, and therefore catering to them as a business can yield returns. Sometimes someone just needs to be the first to point that out in a community. Try writing your local city/town elected officials, as well as state and federal, and ask they support subsidies and tax breaks for the installation of this kind of infrastructure either at private businesses, kr at public areas like local sports centers, town halls, etc. Point is that while big, systemic change from the top down is definitely needed longterm, people working from the ground up makes it a lot easier for the powers that be to meet in the middle. Don't be afraid to speak openly abkut your desire for EVs. Even just normalizing it can have an effect.
@dee_dee_place
@dee_dee_place Рік тому
Thanks, everyone, for the info about charging stations. I verified & found that there is only 1 EV station in my zip code & it provides for all charging ports. It really wouldn't be advantageous for me to buy an EV because: 1) I don't drive often; I've had to replace the battery in my truck once because I start it & use it so infrequently. I filled my tank up ~3-4 mths ago & I have between 1/2-3/4 tank of gas left. 2) I live on a fixed income (my rent is 73% of my income) & spending the price of a home downpayment on an EV is ridiculous, for me; my 20 yr old truck is paid off. Thanks for the info though.
