I actually miss the old conferences. I mean, not enough to be a crotchety old man about it. But, yeah, good times. The Big 8 and Big 10 actually had those amounts of teams; Pac 8/10 was good, always in the Rose Bowl vs Big 10; SWC in Cotton and SEC in Sugar, usually vs Notre Dame and Penn St. Now, conferences are weird or obsolete... EXCEPT for the S E C!

@A I know. I was at the Texas Bowl in 2014. Great game...at least for Arkansas. lol! Arkansas and Texas have played several times over the past 30 years since the demise of the Southwest Conference. But it wasn't the same since we were no longer conference rivals regularly battling it out for SWC conference titles. Arkansas and Texas first played each other in 1894. Texas vs Arkansas vs Texas A&M defined the Southwest Conference for years. When Arkansas joined the SEC in the early 90s, Frank Broyles said that he had been told by Darrell Royal that Texas "will be right behind you" in joining the SEC. It never happened and Arkansas lost a bit of it's identity when it lost that annual game with Texas and lost it's connections to the fertile Texas recruiting grounds. Arkansas has wandered in the wilderness for nearly 30 years and has suffered under terrible coaching for the past decade. However, after Texas and Oklahoma announced that they are finally joining the SEC this summer, it completely changed the dynamic of this game. It changed this game from being merely a nastalgia trip for the old timers to reintroducing a new generation of Hog fans to nearly 130 years of pure hatred of the Longhorns and everything burnt orange. For Arkansas, this game was about sending Texas fans the message "You may not remember us...but we remember YOU!" The movie quote "I'm not locked in here with you...you're locked in here with ME!" at the end of this sketch encapsulated exactly how Arkansas fans feel about Texas now that the 130 year old rivarly is about to make a big comeback inside the SEC. Only Texas A&M and Oklahoma fans can really appreciate why this game was such a big deal to Arkansas.

We get top 10 recruiting classes every year even when we've been shit the last decade and the school has all the $$$ in the world to pour into the football program as they generate the highest revenue of any college team and have a ton of donor support. Texas A&M joined the SEC to get away from the Longhorn’s influence and greed within the Big12! That was a bold move that demonstrated the courage, confidence and honor that A&M possesses! Virtually every SEC fan welcomed them and they did not disappoint by adding to the prestige of the conference! Oklahoma also attempted to leave but somehow was lured into staying put! Fast forward…now a lowly Texas hopes to gain some of its lost prestige by riding the coattails of A&M and others! They and their boosters are going to find out that this shit has to be earned! We welcome Oklahoma as a valuable addition…but Texas will be a shitshow (well, at least Vandy will finally have a team that they can terrorize every year!!)

It did not work out but we ended up with Arkansas and South Carolina. I look forward to Texas being in the SEC! Your fight song is my second favorite in college football (besides my team UGA). I still get a laugh watching Bevo running over UGA in the Sugar Bowl. Our most recent meeting was payback from the 1984 Cotton Bowl when WE prevented Texas from winning another National Championship. It is interesting that not long after the Longhorns and Sooners leave the conference, we get 4 new schools, good ones, to join the conference. I think I know why Nebraska and Colorado left the conference and why no other schools were ever recruited. It was because of Texas. Now they are in a conference where they will not get away with being a bully, an interesting description since they are the Longhorns.
