Marine LAV 25’s, also going to Ukraine, have the same cannon but no TOW missiles. It’s also wheeled and good for armored reconnaissance. I was also a scout sniper, we went on foot or in a helo, didn’t spend much time in 113’s

Those vehicles they have are very good against the Russians. They require minimal training and their logistical support train is vastly smaller/shorter than the newest stuff. It seems that the Ukrainians have been very successful so far with these weapons systems.

I drove M113's as a Cav Scout and they are useful for light cover in getting troops and arms around in a lot of terrain conditions. You can also use it as a mobile heavy mortar carrier and to carry a lot of anti tank missiles. Like any system, using it correctly makes it valuable.

Of course we are and would be grateful for any aid... Nothing will ever be forgotten.

@@megclifton6692 That's training from scratch. Most of the tankers sent to train on western tanks are experienced. They simply have to adjust from Soviet to western tech . Ukrainians have proved themselves very adaptable and very quick learners. I'm sure they are more than capable of being very affective in western tanks in 6 - 8 weeks.

M1A2 Abrams require a specialist maintenance crew - it uses jet fuel, and a lot of sensitive equipment - a rich nation's weapon system that the Ukrainians can't actually afford to upkeep. Supporting aircraft would provide advantage as these aviation can destroy Russian tanks and infantry deployed and awaiting deployment.

Numerous incidents of the Afghan National Army going rogue and doing deliberate "blue on blue". US Intelligence gave the Afghan National Army 3 months(90 days) to hold off the Taliban. Afghanistan was a long operation with lots of material and lead time. Ukraine is none of that. .

I served on an M113. I would not want to ride to the front line in one. You can shoot straight through it with most assault style firearms. I would not consider it a decent vehicle anymore, but of course it always depends on how it's used. I don't think it's much more useful than a rugged 4x4. Just a lot more expensive to operate. The Bradley is its successor, which is also 30 years old and about to be replaced. We should have sent a few hundred of those. We have thousands and just paying to have them in storage isn't doing anyone any good.

Not saying this is the case with you. Whatever the reason, you unfortunately had to suffer because of it. But I don’t think it was because the vehicle was junk. Also I’ve seen all the maintenance you mentioned performed directly in the field many times. Hence my comment…you guys were doing it wrong.

They also state that Ukraine had 459 of its tanks destroyed but captured 544 Russian tanks. Ukraine has replaced every tank it lost and more.

There is nearly 1 year that they could be trained and some of them delivered. it is like germany and poland deliver tanks in March and train them but (nearly) all others are surprised (or send only a handful) and their tanks are in bad condition and will not delivered until end of the year... (most of the gemran stuff is in bad condition too but the Bundeswehr gives more modern Tanks then Leopard A4 (it is A6) because they are working. UK of course started already. Let us hope there will be more Leopard 2's then those old Leopard 1's that Denmark, Netherlands and Germany (88+99) will send. I hope UK still is able to produce ammo for their L7 gun.
