I am a huge fan of SOAD. Seeing Serj Tankian take the others apart of SOAD as friends is the best thing you can do. Friendship is more important than trying to keep a band together and work on albums. Who knows. They might eventually come around and think let's make another album for not only the fans but to have fun as friends.

I prefer system dying with their amazing albuns, than having them come together to fart out something to please fans, which ultimately will result in a bad album.

I honestly agree with Serj; Daron might be the 'leader' but everyone knows that although Serj was not the main contributor (they all are) he was truly the main commercial hook that got to be worldwide famous because of the power and uniqueness of his voice and look. Also, Daron was trying to hard to make everyone understand to feel that SOAD was his band and that Serj was merely the voice, and that's not fair.

Good interview. You can agree to disagree and vise versa. Some people can’t disassociate the difference between good friendship vs business and so forth.

I love his speaking voice it's such a change from hearing how he sings I could listen to him read a book or lecture just like the lead singer of disturbed it's amazing how the natural voice sounds

I get that example of the painter. Im a videographer and working with friends on a personal project is intense. Still friends but its heavy.

Serj is 100% right, forcing something makes a lesser product, people grow and tastes change nothing stays the same forever. The fact Serj is choosing friendship over music shows how much respect he has for the band.

Their side projects prove system need each other creatively, they always sound like half a system song.

While I'm bummed that there may never be another SOAD album, this really puts it in such a great human perspective! I love the fact that they value their friendship over money, because you know they could definitely make a shit ton more money as System of a Down!

I felt very lucky and grateful to see SOAD play together at a concert in Los Angeles a few weeks ago! Headlining alongside Korn as their opener, no less!! What an epic night.

If there was a time when we needed SOAD's music, it's now. Meszmerize and Hypnotize are still as relevant now as it was when they were released. I miss this band so much.

"everyone is different. . . that's okay. . . it'll never be . . . that's okay" basic, classic saying, easy to forget, yet it's the most valuable thing to have as a reminder. You know . . . when people think, make, and do the same art of music, that's when the Sun is Flat and Winter is Coming. Thank You for being a huge Inspiration for us SOAD.

This is an awesome way to put it. As long as they're still friends and enjoy each others presences, thats all that matters. I'm fine with the albums we have. Yes, having a new record would be amazing, but none of them guarantee it. We're lucky we even have system.

If your heart is not in the art you’re trying to create, and you’re not excited, than it’s not going to happen, or it will be for the wrong reasons, and forced. We must respect the significance of this from the artists we want more work from.

Saw them play live last Saturday and they were still amazing! Played a ton off of Toxicity and Mezmerize.

It’s respectful of musicians to give honest answers like this, but it’s unfortunate that so many fans have to dog artists for answers like they deserve it. I trust that artists know why they’ve made their decisions. Serj has done incredible work since SOAD.

A level headed approach to what amounts to their 'work'. Most of us have had people we liked personally but drove us crazy professionally because of different personalities or ideas. You can be personal friends but still disagree creatively in a healthy way. That said, I hope they can combine their creative talents into a new SOAD album. We need it now more than ever.

As a painter myself I can totally relate to his analogy and have always been fascinated by what my musician friends are capable of while working as a group. It really is amazing when you think about it.

System is still my favorite band. I'd be so happy seeing a new album but at the same time forcing it wouldn't be good. I'm glad to see them keep their friendship prioritized. Especially since the friend I had listening to this music back in the day isn't in my life anymore.

I miss SOAD. I would so love to see another album. Especially with everything currently happening. It would be interesting to hear it.

As much as I would love to hear and see the day another System record comes out, I am glad it has not been released under the current happenings within the band. Serj makes a great analogy in this video comparing two friends who are painters who are tasked with working together on the same piece. At the end of the day, their friendship remains intact and they both agree that their personal perspectives and visions differ to the point where collaboration would ultimately result in a finished piece that would be disappointing to a majority of viewers and the artist’s themselves. So many bands have been torn apart internally because of the inability to realize this. The outcome is often enough a record that disappoints the fans and artists. Prior to the mp3/cd burner revolution, there were many times a band was manipulated by their record label to go in a completely different direction which is sad enough in its own right. My $.02.

Very well said Serj. I like that you value your friendship to your band mates all while standing up for yourself as an artist. I think you handled that better than someone else who wants to be the only one to give exclusives. Except for maybe wanting to get exclusive with her. I'm so glad to know both sides of this, sad we had to hear any of it(it's their lives), but gutted as that there won't be any more. SOAD was lightning in a bottle. The friendship is nice to hear affirmed, and they still have their individual careers! My wee inner teenager self titled maniac will just keep living in the past 😅

Loving System of a Down and wanting another record to me is sort of like loving a great movie and wanting a sequel. You have this great experience and you don’t want the ride to end. But sometimes it’s okay for it to end, especially on a high note.
