Shawn mendes when he says this song was based off of how he used to lay in the bathroom floor in his hotel room while his parents were away, he’d drink while trying to deal with his anxiety/depression too afraid to say anything due to toxic masculinity where it was a stereotype ppl believed men to be weak if they’re seen crying or in pain..it’s truly so sad but I’m glad this generation is more accepting and understanding. I’m so greatful that shawn wrote this and that he’s so open about his mental health journey. I’m laying here fighting bad anxiety and having bad panic attacks that seem to keep coming and I can’t seem to control them. During a slightly calmer moment, I realized I was saying “help me” out loud then this song came into my head and now I feel calmer and my anxiety went away. I’m so happy because this song explains how I feel more than I can seem to and I feel like I’m less alone or “crazy” like I know I’m not crazy for being anxious but the way people react to me makes me feel like I am sometimes.
