First of all you need to take the canned food out of the can so she doesn't cut her mouth!! Surely you have another bowl. She needs a bowl of water too! Next, since she is so scared, leave her alone for awhile with the food and water there. Stop babbling and give her a chance to get used to her surroundings! And don't keep her outside! She needs a home!!.

Karen, you are true to your name. This man rescued her and is accelerating this process of gaining trust. With dogs and cats and any animal the process is super simple -- give food with a soft voice and you will gain their trust within the first day if you know what you are doing. There is no need to treat them like your 15 year old teenage daughter.

Your voice speaking softly helps her feel more comfortable. You could try reading her a few kid stories, or playing some lullaby music to help her feel more comfortable, maybe putting a dog bed in there with her would let her know that she has a safe place to reside.
