That is possible, but it's risky because if the player demands a no-trade clause then that won't work. Also the signing team is taking a risk because what if the other teams backs out after the signing? I'm not saying sign and trade doesn't happen, but it's weird they would bother on a contract this small. Was someone worried Bateman was going to demand significantly more after having an injury plagued first few seasons? I like keeping him and Agholor as relatively cheap options to go along with Flowers and Andrews who are clearly the stars of the passing offense.

He's owed 2.4m this year and the 5th year option would have been 14.3m. That means they could have had him through 2025 for 16.7m by doing nothing. They clearly didn't want to pay the 14.3 next year, so I'm sure it's closer to 15m total than 15 per year. His cap hit this year is only 4m so there's not much lower they could get it.

We’re happy for Bateman…but he’s not the answer if we’re looking for a WR2. He’s a 1st round pick and the third option on our WR core. Good thing EDC cut a good deal on his contract. We must draft a better WR. After addressing our O-Line.

I wouldn’t be mad if we do draft a WR, but if Bateman produces, we could honestly be set with weapons, with maybe the addition of a RB. Zay is the #1, and Agholor has been underrated, and don’t forget we also have Andrews and Likely. Imo the draft priorities should be OT, CB, Edge, and backup safety, in that order.
