What would you say, how big is the difference between the HDR display of the MacBook Pro and the Apple Studio Display with non HDR display? I mean image quality, not refresh rate.

@@bernios3446 in terms of contrast and black colour reproduction the difference is pretty big, but both displays are very high quality and suitable for very precise photo-video work in my opinion

@@NOlimitsON Question is whether Apple will bring another higher quality monitor at 27" or more, like a "studio display pro". And if it is less than 5k. With min LED and 120Hz the Studio Display would probably cost at least 3k....

The problem with the studio display is that it's already behind in terms of specs so it's not a smart investment for someone (10 years no way).... Best bet right now would be go for a mid range monitor and wait

You are comparing Huawei 28.2 inch monitor to a 3x more expensive Apple monitor, which is by the way glossy. That's why the Huawei screen looks flashed out in your videos cos Huawei is not glossy. I do not like glossy monitors. For me this monitor costed under 500 euros, and I think I will not use any monitor over 5 years. First of all, after 5 years we will all have at least OLED or something even better. So for me, it is better to buy 500 euros monitor every 5 years, and get always the latest. If you wait 10 years with this monitor, not good idea.

Can usb-c image transfer port be used with apple thunderbolt 4 pro cable? The type C cable that came with the monitor is pretty bad, I had to change it twice.

My initial no-go was not being wall-mountable. My desk is already a righteous mess with camera gear flying around everywhere. I have _zero_ patience for having monitors on my desk too. But I'm glad I found this review. I really love the idea of getting a nice 4K 3:2 display. But this thing feels more gimmicky than anything else. Fuck the phone and video projection. Who needs that? Anyway... my current monitors aren't that great either but I guess I'm gonna wait a bit longer and hope that more manufacturers will get into 3:2 aspect ratio displays...

I use this Monitor since one year now and i am pretty satisfied. Especially the ports and the format is really handy when you nee a lot of space for 3D. I highly recommend this monitor.

I’ve had this monitor for a few days and I think this review is 100% correct. I managed to get it a lot cheaper at £350 so I think I will keep it for now. The display cannot beat my iMac 5k (7 years old!) but it’s still decent imo and I wasn’t expecting miracles.

Good to know. I'm debating between getting a M1 Mac mini new or getting a 2019 base model 5K iMac (a good second hand deal). The thing is iMac has that gorgeous screen quality with those ugly big bezels but unfortunately it's intel. With the Mac mini it has the M1 which blows Intel out the water but the problem is choosing a screen is such a headache. Every day for a few hours I've been doing research online trying to find a screen that is closest to those beautiful 5K screens on the iMacs but unfortunately I just can't find any. Now for me I don't do heavy professional work it's mostly for surfing the web and editing a few videos. 90% of the videos are 1080 P 60 a few are 4K. But I'm sure the 3 ghz can handle the 4K video editing, hopefully it can anyway. And of course find the Apple studio screen is out the question that's just ridiculously too expensive. so Reading your comment after actually really thinking that this screen after reading about it over and over online how people are saying it's amazing vibrant colours for the Mac it sucks to hear it doesn't come nowhere close to the 5K iMacs . I'm so lost and don't know what to do lol . So can you tell me do you have any experience with editing 4K video and if so would you know if the 2019 5K iMac base model at 3 GHz would be able to do it? Because if it can I think I might just go for that iMac after reading your comment

Just bought this and linked it to my Mac air M1 not overly impressed at first, maybe it’s the ratio but image editing doesn’t seem quite right. Will persevere for a few days to see if I can start to like it, if not it’s a return and suck up the studio display price (ouch) but the comments on a ten year evaluation of a monitor was really helpful, never thought of it that way.

@@aaronbrown4366 hi, just to update after a few Mac mini Bluetooth teething issues I believe I now have a great set up for editing. The monitor is for the price I paid (£399) an absolute dream. Crisp clean images, growing to prefer the Matt screen.

i m using this monitor with a macmini intel 2018. nice colours enough space on screen. against: very hot in the bottom side( near slide bar) and the glow effect in the night time.

more: for using mateview microphone have usb-c connection( with hdmi or minidp the macmini doesn't see the microphone). Wireless image it s a joke( with a matebook or p40 pro-it s slow low resolution and bad images).

It will work with both 220V and 110V with support for alternating current frequency. No problem.

If colour actuary isn’t critical I’d say it’s a good option, but then you could get a similar quality panel and rotate it vertically on a vesa mount. This one has the stand permanently built in so no vesa option. But it’s still a lovely design and decent picture.

@@brucekennedy5274 thank Bruce. My goal is to use the current monitor as the vertical one and the new one as the main monitor screen (horizontal). My budget is at maximum 600€ and the usb c support is not needed now but it’s better to be prepared for the future. Other options that I was browsing was the Philips lineup. Saw some very good reviews regarding picture quality. Almost the same price but the design cannot even compare with this one

For vertical space consideration only, which would be better: 5120 x 2880 (like with LG 27MD5KLB-B), or 3840 x 2560 (of the MateView)? The first is 16 by 9, but offers more vertical pixels than the other. So, does that extra make up for the non 16 x 10 aspect ratio? What will that look like in the comparisons you offer in the side-by-side screen views here? Will we still see more height in the UKposts, Apple, Final Cut, etc., pages ? I need the extra vertical height for productivity sake.

Just got the monitor and the sound is sooo bad compared to the Macbook Pro 16. The volume cant be controller from the OS, instead I need to go in the menu of the display and then in a submenu and then in another submenu. But what really bothers me is that the USB-C input is on the side and not on the back so its always visible. On the upside it was only 550€ compared to the Dell I had before which was 750€ and just didnt reach enough brightness and didnt look so cool. What you got is the imo totally senseless wireless version that is at least 100€ more expensive.

This is a good monitor. There are a few things I do not like, but I LOVE the matte coating. I just HATE glossy monitors. In this aspect I think the best Apple display was an old Cinema Display.

@@m-stat9 Colors seem more accurate on matte displays, and flares do not spoil the picture. Contrast is higher on glossy screens, but it's good for movies, not for color grading.

Once you’ve been used to the perfect 2:1 pixel scaling on an iMac 5k nothing is going to look as crisp, that’s just how it is I’m afraid, I have mine scaled to match the iMac and I can see the scaling but honestly after a while I stopped worrying or noticing. It can’t beat a true 5k panel, but I got this in response to the Studio Display which I totally agree is one of Apples most blatant overpricing in years. I do prefer to buy the best and make it last, but I’m thinking this is more of a stop gap till something really worth paying at lot more for comes along. As a designer I know it’s not perfect but I’ve rewired my fomo to a “good enough” sensibility. Also, it only cost me £350 so, boom.

I scale it 2560 x 1707 @ 60.00Hz. Looks good to me. 2 x is the default for the display (proper integer). A bit huge for my taste.

I got this monitor for my Mac Studio and i've been getting extremely annoying subsampling on it, red pixels are twice the size, i fixed it by unplugging and plugging the monitor a bunch of times with USB-C but after i accidentally reset the MacOS monitor settings the subsampling is back and nothing i do fixes it, do you have any idea if there is a fix for this? have you had subsampling out of the box? nothing i've searched online is giving me any answers and its the only issue that is keeping me from enjoying the monitor... any help or information would be appriciated EDIT: for anyone else that is reading this, after months of trying to figure this out I found out I had to edit the macos window plist file to be set to RGB mode, on all of the displays, I was having an issue because I didn't realise the process was different with multiple displays, just follow the m1 mac force RGB mode tutorial except replace all of the monitor settings not just one, and if that doesnt work you also have to change the window file in /Users/[user]/Library/Preferences/ByHost which is the same process

@@matt.banton Just one with two 1080p monitors, forcing rgb mode on them also increased quality significantly, before the change colors like light blue looked cyan and red looked like cherry red, which is completely wrong, but after forcing RGB mode, everything works perfectly!

@@matt.banton I will admit I am quite disappointed with the panel uniformity, it gets darker near the top and bottom and shifts towards red, but its only noticeable on pure white, but there aren't really any monitors like this out there at this price point so I'm willing to put up with it

Did you do any measurements with a colorimeter or was it an eye test? Did you check and compare panel uniformity with a hardware calibrator or do you do your tests by eye 🤣🤣

I'm also thinking about getting an cheap used 27' 5k iMac for the light stuff like surfing the web and all common tasks but when I need to do video editing I was thinking about using my M1 MacBook Air which is a beast and hooking it up to the iMac to use as an external display but after doing just some quick research apparently it's only the older iMacs I think before 2015. I could be wrong you should do your research and don't quote me on it but that's what I got from looking into it quickly.

“The contrast ratio is 1200:1, this is not that cool. I would like to see more contrast”. You clearly did not do your homework before making this review as the limitation for IPS technology is around that figure (for the Apple displays as well). It wasn’t only until recently that LG came out with “IPS black” panels in very small number or products that pushed native contrast ratio closer to 2000:1.
