Installing Debian is as simple as downloading the Raspberry Pi image, flashing it to an SD card, booting the Pi, and configuring it. However, it takes more configuration than many other systems. There is no graphical desktop on the Raspberry Pi Debian image, to begin with, but one can be added.

I couldn't get the debian image to work for some reason possibly a usb boot thing i dunno (it'd probably work with an sd card). Anyway i used ubuntu server instead then done the same thing with tasksel.

I put 64 bit bullseye on my 8G Pi 4 and the chromium that came installed will not even do you tube vids. This was downlo9aded from the pi site.

sudo nano /boot/firmware/config.txt disable_overscan=1 dtparam=sound=on dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d should take care of most of the issues you had here.

Debian does not have 3D acceleration hardware support, so there is no mean of adding 'v3d'

I just installed Debian and then updated and graded it and then used tasksel to install lxqt but now I can't seem to login to the desktop. I'm stuck at the login screen.

I had the same issue. When you login as root, use adduser to add an id and password.

After it finishing installing gnome, it wont let me login with root, it allows pi as username, but raspberry as password doesn't work

If I remember well, you can't open a session with root. You need to create a new user first. If you used "adduser" to create pi with the password raspberry it should work, there is probably something missing. Check the article to make sure you didn't miss any step.

@@RaspberryTips thank you, already done it, it worked. The problem now is the desktop environment, I used Mate on my RPi3B but it's too heavy, it runs too slow. I'll try with Raspberry Pi OS.

I've been using Debian Bullseye from Gunnar Wolf for year. It's excellent and I much prefer it to Raspberry Pi OS. Raspberry Pi's Buster version was fine but their Bullseye version is a disappointment

I think it should replace Raspbian (based on Debian, I know), at this point, since many things on RPi OS are currently deprecated, such as various dependencies for build essentials. The other thing, Canonical had been floundering with Ubuntu as of late, and it could interfere with System76's work on the Pi in the future. Plus, I've tested the image used on a Pi4b 4GB and it hadn't given me any outstanding issues other than the recommended clock settings to get Serial Console to work, having to manually change the default audio sink, and the lack of build essentials outright. At the base level, it seems to work OK.
