While I am never Vegan nor a supporter of hers, I actually got "lectured" by a vegan recently about why they call the meat-industry a sort of "holocaust", and the logic was quite less flawed that I first expected it to be. Basically they try to equate "morality" with the "trying to do the least amount of suffering", pointing out that we think things are immoral because they create suffering (this much I could agree on). But then, they equate animals to human by saying that animals too have personalities, desires, wishes, etc. and that therefore, the suffering of animals should be considered just as immoral as that of human beings (that's where I wasn't totally agreeing with him). And then, if we look at the common practices in the meat-industry (which I can agree are absolutely horrendous, that's why I only eat the game meat that my family hunts and never industrial meat), and if we consider that the animal's suffering is just as immoral as human's suffering, then the slaughter of animals would be a whole lot worse than the holocaust. While I completely disagree with that point of you, I had to admit that the logic isn't that flawed. It simply doesn't take into account the particularity of human sentience, but otherwise, it is truly appalling what is happening on a daily basis in the meat-industry. But again, I am nowhere close to be a vegan or even vegetarian, and maybe I got their ideas wrong. In which case, feel free to correct me and enlighten me. Otherwise, I hope I helped at least a bit understand their point of view.

As many as two TRILLION fish were killed by humans in 2018. Slaughterhouses are bloody and traumatic places, even for the slaughterhouse workers, who are prone to PTSD and other mental health issues. Slaughterhouse workers, having been desensitised to violence, are also more likely to be violent towards humans. The next time you eat meat, you could be paying to contribute to the job that is forming the mindset of the next serial killer… Cows have best friends and there is ample evidence for animals being sentient beings. They don’t want to die. How do you think enjoying the flesh of violently murdered animals and being apathetic to their suffering would make you rate as a decent human being?

Is this a justification to artificially inseminate them? The act of restraining a cow and shoving a rod with injected bull semen into them is fundamentally cruel, it's rape and a sexual violence towards a non-human victim. It's the only way they're born in the meat and dairy industries and it ends with calves being forcefully seperated and most of the female's milk being harvested for human consumption.
