In The Sims 2, Nannies were introduced in the base game. A Nanny can be called to come over one time, or to track the schedule of an adult. Sims 2 Nannies were always female elders. Their job is to take care the needs of the young ones. Nannies will empty the potty, put a child to sleep, feed the young ones, change their dirty diaper and bathe them, clean after them, and many other things. Some nannies are more responsible and up to task than others. Some nannies would slack off more. Are so careless that they can steal from your money tree, pee themselves and believe it or not, even start a fire. You can socialize with the Nanny and even become friends, or try to, you can tip her, dismiss her for the day or fire her.
Sims 3
You can also call a babysitter in The Sims 3, to take care of your young ones. Unlike The Sims 2, Nannies in The Sims 3 are random teens from the town you live in. They can be male and female.
Babysitters in The Sims 3 can't track your work schedule. You can call them upfront. they have a standard fee of §75. Babysitters take care of your children. They'll feed them, change their diaper, play with them, which they very much enjoy doing. But I've noticed they won't do much until your kid has a really low need. You can interact with them. You can't tip them, but you can dismiss or fire them.
Some of the babysitters might have kleptomaniac trait, meaning they could steal something from your house.
Sims 4
In The Sims 4, Nannies were not initially part of the base game. They were added in an update in 2016. Before the update, when left alone, children were automatically sent to daycare. This way they aren't able to build any skills. After their parents came home, the children were brought back.
You can call a nanny over the phone. The babysitter will come right over. Nannies are random young adult, adult, or elder townies. Their job is to take care of the young ones. a very good care. Nannies will feed them, change their diaper, put them to sleep, cook meals, tidy up the house.
You can socialize with them, even too much.. you can also tip them, you can also dismiss or fire them.
