The brilliance of the cover is the addition of the funeral march, the slow inevitability of the procession balances Sioxsie's expert delivery of dark verses.

the video, though non official, has nothing of irrelevance to the song. it recalls us there is still the same racist hartred that reigned during the time the song depicts. It doesn´t matter where in the globe: Brazil, the US, Africa. There exists nowadays new kinds of lynching which make those fruits drop.

They are open-pit diamond mining for DeBeers Corp.

Great cover...I like how you get more of a feeling of death and its stench in the air.

Thanks for your comments, but I do know what this song is about.. I read Billy Holiday's autobiography. This video is not meant to be taken in literal terms. It is a contemporary interpretation. It would seem you've lost the ability for abstract thought - Cheers to all of you literalists out there ;D

Totally relevant. I am drawing parallels regarding the strife of peoples. This is all footage from Africa, with that said... this song has relevance for all nations if not being perceived so myopically; or if you insist on being a literalist than I suppose you are correct in your own right.

@rinbar70 They aren't being buried per se, they are in an open pit mine, thus those on top digging in the earth for diamonds are, by virtue of gravity covering those farther down in the pit with dirt and rocks. The lack of regard for those men below bloodied the mans head sending him scrambling for the surface in pain.

@SaschaDuda i found the video very appropriate, and was not offended at all.

One of many really good versions of a Billie Holiday classic - others Tori Amos and latest Beth Hart. An amazing song about a very depressing topic.

PRECIOSA, música en contra de toda la injusticia que hay en ÁFRICA, con los diamantes, (muchos ricos, mucha pobreza...) y destacar ese tono de esta canción estilo FUNERALES de personas de color, muy bonita.

What's the part where they are trying to bury those people in the hole?

"then the sudden smell of burning flesh" .......I think that she is talking about burnt bodies as "black bodies swinging"

This wouldn't happen to be the same Susan Ballion that used to wear a swastika armband during early Banshees performances would it?

+Ann Thorpe From Wikipedia: "In early September 1976, the Bromley Contingent followed Sex Pistols to France, where Siouxsie was beaten up for wearing a black armband with a swastika on it. She claimed her intent was to shock the bourgeoisie, not to make a political statement. She later wrote the song "Metal Postcard (Mittageisen)" (in memory of the anti-Nazi artist John Heartfield)."
