My dad asked me to play this song on July 30, 2017 as he transitioned. It was his way of telling me goodbye. I put the song on repeat and said a lil prayer and asked the Lord to allow me to sleep through the transition but awake for the time of death and HE did just that. I laid in the bed with my dad held his hand and laid my head oh his shoulders and he cruised right on away. It’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss my dad. I was his only child the love of his life. I’ll give anything to see him, talk to him, love on him again......Jesus this hurt ❤️😭❤️

My dad introduced me to this song when I was about 7. I’m 27 years old. He would always play his old classics on the way to our fishing trips and I hated it (I really actually liked the music but didn’t want to admit it lol) but man, when this song came on, it caught me. It made me feel like I was living in the 60’s and 70’s during the Motown era. This song will forever stick with me. My dad passed away unexpectedly my senior year of college and this song will ALWAYS bring back those memories. RIP pops 🙏🏾💙

Smokey is one of the smoothest cats that has ever lived. If he had just been a great songwriter he would still be legendary, if he had just been a great vocalist he would still be legendary and if he had just been a producer he would still have been legendary and yet this master possesses all three of those gifts in a remarkable degree. Motown owes this man everything.

Thank you for posting your heart-warming story. I lost my dad when I was 15 and my mother just died a few weeks ago. The emptiness you describe, I feel it and that sense of something so important being torn out of your life, like an arm being torn out of your body. I am so sad that my mum is gone and it upsets me to speak about her as someone who once lived. It feels like a betrayal, like accepting that she is someone of the past. She was always here. I feel your pain as it is my pain as well. On a positive note , I have met my father again in my dream. It was beautiful and I enjoyed hearing his voice. We were speaking over the phone. I grew up listening to oldies everyday. I had my first daughter in 09 and she grew up listening to them as well. She was a very sick child/ and still is. She heard this song and she loved it! This song seemed to ease her pain. I’d literally have to put her in her car seat at 3 in the morning and drive her around listening to this song. 😊 When she’s having a bad night with seizing I play this and it calms her down.

April 3rd of 2020, at 3:00 in the morning, my mom passed away from Alzheimer’s, my dad took care of her for those two years because he didn’t want to put her in a nursing home, they were married since 1964, the morning she passed away, he called me and my three brothers over and we were all sitting with him and my mom was just laying there and my dad played this song for her and we all just sat around crying, this song will always remind me of that day and my mom. He said it was one of her favorite songs. I sure do miss her

DeAnna Mckinney DeAnna, It is not easy. It is not a 50/50 At least with me. I keep a daily journal. Life goes by so fast can you remember all the wonderful events in your life? It helps me still be me and not just someone's wife. I have no children and a lot of spare time suffered a TBI in 2002 that did not help any. Losing yourself to someone else's life letting them have total control I refuse to do. I love people ALL people and I love my music. All music. Any style country R&B my favorite. I ran into Smokey at a record store in 83. I approached him, introduced myself and he didn't stop smiling through the 15 minute conversation I had with him. told him I was from Detroit and that was all it took. I was wearing a brazil t shirt and he brought up Tina Turner who just finished a bunch of shows there. I thought, "here I am talking to Smokey Robinson about Tina Turner". Anyway he couldn't have been nicer.
@autumn12316 років тому
I just re-read this and it was actually in early 1988. At music store somewhere near North Hollywood. He was buying cassette tapes of New Age music. When I left the store he was waiting in line to pay for his stuff.....I walked by him and said, "it was great talking to you Smokey" and he smiled really big and said, "you too Doug"!

He was as well such an honest man who spoke his mind. I wish you well and hope for the good people who shared their heartwarming stories, that you may reunite with your fathers in this world and at a day in the future with them in the afterworld.
