Already had with nvidia chip back there. It was horrible. Cannot install exe file. Cannot upgrade or install another os like linux etc. It was so horrible that i used as mouse pad bottom. Apple with M2 is great. Because it was already limited application to install and apple only tech. But windows.? No. Either it is intel or amd.. oh wait i remember,Windows RT. Ruined technology. With nvidia tegra.

Surface RT originally released in October of 2012 so it’s 11 years since Microsoft first started ARM chips

I own a Lenovo x13 that uses a snapdragon 8cx, it’s pretty much made strictly for enterprise use. It’s about as slow as a Chromebook but with arm emulation on windows 11 it works good enough. Windows on arm definitely needs lots improvement on both the hardware side and software side

It's the software that doesn't support windows for arm, not the other way around. If they bothered porting it you'd already have it.

of course it was tested on linux, if it was tested on windows then they need to somehow legally get the latest source code for windows and create their OWN optimization for their OWN custom build of windows. Remember, apple's M series laptop have a good performance ONLY because they implemented a deep arm-optimized code for their own OS

I actually loved my Nokia Windows 8 Phone. I did want Microsoft to take it further. It doesn't really have a desktop feel, but it was fun. I popped the battery out, and the cop parked next to me looked straight over at me. 😅

well for one you cant physically compare apples cpus to snapdragons they work on completely seperate engines but raw performance we know the snapdragons will win apples silicones are paper weights without the software not to mention kinda outdated qualcomm wont sell anything brand new to apple nor will samsung and the rest so apples only main upgrades are when newer tech from different companies come out already the snapdragon 8 gen 2 can be comparable to the m2 because realistically the m2 is the m1 with slight differences adreno 740s already beat out apples gpus a long while ago so the gen 2 is doing all this while only using 6.8watts to the m2s 28w the only problem is the giant gpu strapped to the 8 gen 2, apples performance graphs are bullshit btw they only show you the good stuff on newer updates in comparison to the older hardware running older updates its all a load of balls thats why sometimes the snapdragon kicks the shit out of m1s and 2s and a17s but sometimes they leave it in the dust completely different engines doing completely different things

I really really really want to see Samsung pull off their own version of the ROG phone. A completely dedicated gaming phone. The US could honestly use one. You can buy one and use it in the US but it's extremely spotty whether or not most carriers even support it and most the time even if they do support it you're stuck on 4G LTE.

Not all people gaming… matter of fact if you work with your computer (editing music, videos or photos)… a good and powerful chip is the way to go, most of the times you don’t want a gaming laptop cause is bulky and heavy to carry around.

my guy theres no way windows will be that smoth and good OS as MacOs. Windows is the most buggiest with bunch of trahses taking resources, useless services, bsod for common reason that other os handle without crashing and etc.

Actually though, since it will probably be at least 2 years before quest 4, it will probably be at least then next iteration/gen of Snapdragon X. I don't know what they'll call it, but Snapdragon X gen 2 or something like that. Still, I agree it will give awesome VR power to the Quest 4.

In terms of your average consumer's processors, it's still on x86 because the development of Arm is just slower in the average computer space. And with the amount of compatibility built on top of Arm, it's hard to just switch like that. Even so, x86 utilizes power much differently than Arm.

No. Both ISAs have advantages over the other. Also, optimization comes down to the developer, not the ISA. Different microarches also have different SIMD extensions and they can absolutely destroy other cpus that dont feature those hardware accelerated ops. Doesnt matter if its x86 or ARM. Overall system performance has ABSOLUTELY zero to do with the CPU's ISA.

ARM systems have been upgradable for many years. They even had pci express gen 4 before x86. Its no different than x86 SoCs in that you can upgrade systems using them.
