I watched the Thanos' sword spinning really fast part at 0.25x speed, and I saw he somehow put it on his wrist, and some form of mechanism made it start to spin.

I just watched it but he didn't put it on his wrist. You can pause the and go through the frames and his hand position doesn't change, he's holding the sword out in a punching position. What actually happens is there is an internal track, but it pushes the outside guard (the one we see) out and onto the next internal track. So the guard moves, and we see an internal track basically push and catch the outside guards, which are attached to the blade, to form a spinning motion. So it's like the mechanism in this video, except instead of the sword being attached to an internal piece moved by an external track, the sword is attached to the external piece/guard and moved by an internal track

thanos using a double ended scythe would make sense. Plus it can homage to death and still have the helicopter/balance themes. The only issue then is that it's super edgy, but practicality is about the same as the copter sword

If you watch the "copter" scene in 0.25 speed you will see that the handle does not spin. He simply holds it in place while the blades spins around. So your theory is correct.

fun fact! if I recall correctly, that sword IS actually the Thanos Copter's blade (yeah, Thanos had a helicopter once). so, the helicopter move? makes complete and total sense thematically. practically it's a lot harder to explain.

Note on the internal track for the blades: there would be no way to keep the blades exactly opposite one another. You can't have a full ring because, well, the ring ain't full, and you can't have a connector in the handle because it wouldn't be able to rotate while held. So while yes, it would be possible to create something like what you've shown, the blades would quickly desync and one would rotate faster than the other, making them bunch up on one side and completely screw up any balance.

The one thing I noticed most obviously seeing you wield that very broken weapon design (that you didn't mention) is that the reverse blade is critically flawed in one major way. As you keep swinging it toward the opponent, if you continue the motion you can easily cut yourself in half. Or at the very least slice your own side open. It's like the natural result with the blade facing inwards, being that thick, and having a short handle. It really is a very bad design functionally, you're 100% right. Great video.

That weapon is designed for fighting opponents on many sides... do one slashing sweep with one of the blades, rotate the blade, and do another slashing sweep. The gripping area in the middle is designed for that, and customised for the strength and dexterity that Thanos has. All he has to do is rotate the blade angles - and don't forget, he can use that 'heavy weapon' with one hand if he has to.

9:00 i looked for the thanos fight, and when the sword spins it does show a similar mechanism to the one you describe, but even watching it at .25 speed its hard to tell how the blades rotate to the oposite side

The internal track is very similar in design to a tool used in stringing fiber optic cable along telephone poles. The lasher has a similar motion as the core is running along the cable and the outer partial ring is spinning to wrap a reinforcing wire around the cable and a steel cable that supports its weight. TLDR: spinning circular tracks are real and we can make them fairly sturdy.

10:27 In the comics, there is a fictitious metal called Uru, it is used to make things like Mjolnir and the Infinity Gauntlet, it is a strong, alien metal that likely has magical properties, although not directly stated, the movie versions of those weapons are likely to be made of the same material and it's not unlikely to be believed that Stormbreaker (another weapon made from the dwarves) is made from the same and same with Thanos' weapon, even if we don't know who made it.

I think if you can hand wave that sci-fi tech makes one thing possible, you can also hand wave that some things aren't possible. So yea, the blade can spin and stuff because of sci-fi tech which also has some aspect of magic in it, but it needs more space in the blade than extra edges can allow It might seem ridiculous that double blades are impossible, but I think it being suboptimal is plausible enough. Some aspects of the design could even be for crazy powerful being which just aren't in Endgame. It's a great weapon for Thanos
