I have talked to an ISRO scientist, they mentioned that even in just the 2 weeks time CY-3 has collected soo much data that it'll take 3 years to study it. So, definitely more scientific finding coming out of this.

Seems like ISRO science is not as transparent when we had rockets and satellites launched in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. There were tangible results like live telecasts, long distance telephony, remote sensing etc … lately the outcomes and benefits of missions could not be verified as easily.

If water is allegedly found in permanently shadowed craters, then tautologically, a solar-powered lander will have quite some difficulty finding it. That said, it was a good mission and was quite successful. Low-budget space exploration has a lot to offer. Personally, I'd like to see NASA do more of it too.

What I gather was that permanently shadowed regions was not on the cards. Even if the landing had been closer to the south pole, to examine permanently shadowed regions, the landing itself would have to be inside a crater which could be several kilometers deep. Not sure if the rover would be able to navigate the slopes.

India's small and detailed approach on a sensible budget lends itself to the equivalent of lab analysis -- but in situ. This could well lead to small then large coordinated 'swarms' of landers and crawlers coordinated in real time from the earth separately from packets of data being beamed back for later traditional modern best practice. Too often the 'big boys' of space exploration gather a choking amount of data which take years to process, even using using the fastest computer arrays we have. By splitting the data classification into 2 main types and refining methods in situ it will be possible to save weight on returning samples when the USA, Russia and ESA fulfill planned operations. If "missing" hydrogen is in places or forms/states we do not have on earth then India's approach is the best bet for finding it. India will probably work with Russia, China and Japan too because, as a people, directness of purpose is less prone to political distractions than we have seen hitherto.
