We originally planned on using an airbag to eject the seat (which would be powerful enough to launch a person), but we decided against it due to numerous safety risks. We're not mythbusters and we don't have a huge budget. Using an airbag could cause serious damage to the car, the driver, the seat, not to mention if the seat came back down on the car, then the car is wrecked too. Enjoy it for what it is, a fun video =) (and the James Bond ejection seat didn't shoot any higher xD)

I think that for the Aston-Martin DB5 used in the 1964 movie 'Goldfinger', the special effects director, John Stears (who also built R2-D2 for 1977's 'Star Wars'), got the British company Martin Baker, who make ejection seats for aircraft worldwide, to make a custom seat, that would clear the vehicle, but not kill the stunt performer sitting in it. The DB5 with all the working gadgets is massively reinforced and heavy, and only one of several used for filming.

brianartillery oh yeah anytime they shoot a movie or TV show with a car that is involved in a bunch of crazy stunts there's a lot of those cars used that's how come they had to quit making the Dukes of Hazzard TV show they were running out of cars to be the General Lee while simultaneously making that car more popular so they're more expensive and harder to find you can even spot when they switched cars in some old movies during a chase scene the car will crash through a bunch of stuff and break out the headlights then it'll cut to the car chasing it and the guys in the car or fire a couple shots or something then it cuts back to the car that had its headlights broke out and they're fine now

The concept of ejection seats are cool and all in cars but impracticable as far as real usability goes; but in saying that there 'light-weight seat with a lightweight passenger' worked surprisingly well. anything close to a human passenger sitting on a normal seat and you need pretty much a close to really high-powered commercial jet engine like you mentioned. The other gadgets may be more generally successful though.

Fundamentally explosive carts operate rams to provide initial travel to get an ejection seat out of the cockpit, thereafter a built in rocket motor initiates providing addition vectored thrust to get it away. Also I’ve seen footage of car airbags going of propelling people a fair distance in the air....worth a thought, good work by the way

Use an airbag to launch the seat up, then put something on the right of the side of the seat to cause drag so that when the seat is ejected it goes to the right of the car instead of just falling back down on to the car

You could have used a spring trap with powerful springs and a circuit that you connect to a big red button consealed in the top of the stick shift. Also one of the springs should be slightly smaller than the other so you could control the direction they get launched into

Have you considered vacum sealing the convertable lid and giving the interior a supply of oxygen? Then you could utterly waterproof the undercarridge and put propellers adjacent to each wheel, potentially making it manouverable underwater

What ever your putting in the headlights you could use something like windshield wiper motors to raise the headlights that Reval Rocket Launchers or Grappling Hooks ETC

better to use Central locking Actuators as they give a strong fast linear movement that has low current draw. or use the movement of rocket launch tubes to just move the hinged headlight out of the way. upgrade to LED to save space.

You can keep the actual seat from the car, and use the airbag underneath, but you will need to build a rail system so that it points the seat away from you, and doesn't come back down to crush you😂
