Great video. Well explained and more importantly shown with examples. Really good work. I'd really like to see more material from the Squash Tactics series.

Having three options when the opponent's ball is loose in the 3/4 zone, is essential. Your explanation is concise and well demonstrated. You also mentioned, when hitting that straight drive, to hit the front wall above the red line in order to get the ball deep and out of reach of the opponent. The other two shots are aimed very low.

Great video. When if ever do you go crosscourt?

Hi Serb, another question about your straight kill shot; do you always use a lot of cut, or do you ever use a hard top spin shot that's flat? Thanks

I was a little shocked. I thought I scratched my A-brand phone. But it's a scratch on the glasswall. Next time choose a better court without scratches on the backwall. 😉 Good old Jonah Barrington teached us always to swing in line with the target. Stéphane Galifi explained me that arm and racket must be in line with the target on the frontwall. You must look over your arm and racket and follow the ball. Like throwing a ball. So smart that you work with targets on the frontwall. In my coaching years I worked with targets on the floor. We can learn from the best coaches and the best players. I hardly played a straight drop after the service. This is what this great video made me conscious of. It's all about targeting and straight lines. It's about holding the line, Shahier Razik said. It's always about both hands start in the same line behind the shoulder. If your racket and arm are behind your right shoulder you will swing in line with the right shoulder, if your racket and arm are in line with the left shoulder, you finish with your racket and arm more to the left. So, it's the position where you start the swing, there you will always follow the same line in the follow through. It's good to be original in squash but for technique and tactics it's much better to be a copy of the best players. I respect the best coaches and players in the world and in my country. In our squashnation I trust if we make good technique a 'must'. Swing right, stand right, hold the racket right. That's why I want to finish with the National Anthem. Wilhelmus van Meerkerkus ben ik, van Franse bloed, den vaderland getrouwe blijf ik tot in den doed. Een Prinse van Oranje ben jij, vrij, onverveerd, den Koning van het squashen heeft jou weer iets geleerd.

Great video not only for the shot techniques but also has great tactical tips on how to continue with the rally. Would there be any difference in the shot selection on the forehand 3-quarter area?

Thanks for your message and support! On the forehand side I use the drive (different heights), straight kill and attacking boast. So same shots, my goal is to show the same by using one preparation.. hope this is helpful!

Thanks for the great video; from that position on the court do you hit crosscourts much, or do you leave yourself too exposed? Thanks

Cross will probably be risky, unless executed perfect, leaving the straight line open on the other side 😬

Hi Seb... thanks for the video, its very insghtful! 🙏 Just a quick question, why not play a straight drop instead of a kill? Alternatively, why not an attacking drive instead? These are the shots I normally play so I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on my shot selection?
@squashoriginals2392
@squashoriginals2392 Рік тому
Hi Joan, thanks for your question! So the reason I do not play a drop from this area is that I feel I am too far from the front wall. Having said this, if the ball bounces in just behind the short line I would maybe play a drop instead, but all the balls that bounce around the back of the service box I would rather play an attacking boast, straight kill (you can play with the speed) or a drive that makes sure you avoid the volley of the opponent. Obviously all players have their 'go to' shots in certain areas, if the drop works for you, who am I to say you should not hit it! In my experience players make more mistakes with a drop from that area in the court as too with a kill. As for the attacking drive, a lot of the time this ball bounces in the service box giving your opponent an opportunity to step in and keep control of the T. Hope this helps!
