You’ve demonstrated the effectiveness of carries to challenge the CNS. Best wishes figuring out what to do with it. 14! Let’s go, Champ! Cheers!

I know what you are feeling Ivan, i was focusing on squats aswell lately, and as soon as i started doing way too much of bench and other stuff, it killed my recovery. Failed 2 sessions in a row and it feels like shit, but recover and go again.

Hi Ivan. Carries (farmers) are bloomin brutal pal! Definitely not a warm up movement! A major movement in a session or a good finisher! Can't wait to see you hit the 20 reps pal. And recovery is as serious as the effort required when training. Well done pal.

I too had a sub par squat day yesterday. I was supposed to hit 405 lbs 3 x 3. I baaaarely got I set for 3 and it would have been stupid to try for more, so I backed off and settled for 365. It had been over 8 months that I hit every rep that was prescribed up to this point. This is why fellas get on PEDs. Ah well, I’ll try again next week.
@GDoggy-em2xc
@GDoggy-em2xc 14 днів тому
Don’t feel too bad. It happens. This past Thursday I did hack squats for a set of 8, 10, and 12. Then I went to deficit deadlifts. I struggled to do a set of 12 with a laughable 58%. So against my better judgment I went to the gym 24 hours later and did some trap bar deadlifts. I managed to do 3 doubles at 88, 92, and 90%. Whew! I proved to myself that I didn’t lose any strength. So I was satisfied. But today mowing my lawn I felt like a 90 year old man my lower back is bloody tired. So yeah, I need to start training smarter. Lol I really am a wing it guy and it’s clearly not going too well.
@Egoliftdaily
@Egoliftdaily 14 днів тому
Bruh, I have a similar conclusion about exercises involving grip. I did heavy grippers a day before a bench press session, I was totally disappointed on bench press day. 😂 The heavy grippers messed me up - it's a CNS thing I guess. I totally underestimated its effect on me. Never ever gonna do heavy grippers a day before a heavy bench or squat session again.

@patrickbeck4062
@patrickbeck4062 13 днів тому
I mentioned it a few days ago, but might have been too late to see. Look up "behind the back barbell rear delt raise". It's kind of like a reverse drag curl. At the top of the movement your upper arm and shoulders are in a similar position to the squat, so you can train that shoulder and elbow position, but with way less weight, so probably not going to wipe you out too easily.
@patrickbeck4062
@patrickbeck4062 13 днів тому
ukposts.info/have/v-deo/sX1qnnyDaK6llp8.htmlsi=gMA5Na7ViudEvzog I'm still messing around with weather I like overhand or underhand grip better. And leaning forward just a few degrees, so you have to hold the bar away from you more to get past your butt. Then continue the bar path straight up, don't just let it drag into your lower back.

@jamesseatonnnn
@jamesseatonnnn 14 днів тому
Dr Mike always recommends warming up with the movement itself, I’ve found this helpful too. Something like 12 reps with a weight you could squat 30 reps of. 8 reps with a slightly heavier weight, then another 4 reps slightly heavier than that before going to the working weight. Primes the body to push in the desired direction! Hate having a bad day but you’ll be back again for the next AMRAP no problem 👍

80kg shouldn't do jack but activate. It's good you get new stimulus (160kg) from the farmers, was about time anyway. The amount of times I have PR'd my squat after already training for 1,5 h should be a firm round ZERO if 80 kg farmers was catabolic embodiment :D Just an off day, it happens! There always tends to be a very shit session before a very good one. Just for my own curiosity from my own logs: 10x2 Snatch up to 80% 8x(1+1) Power clean + jerk up to 80% Sn pulls 6x2 @ 90-100% Cl pulls 6x2 @ 90-100% Back squat 6x3 85-90%, PR 5 on last set. Accessories: pullups, dips, abs, jumps That's already 75 reps deep before the PR. Average rest time 3 minutes. Ahh damn I miss proper weightlifting training...
@paoloh885
@paoloh885 13 днів тому
Farmers carries could have influenced this, but this might have just been an off day regardless. I sometimes walk into the gym feeling amazing, but the weight feels heavy when I get under it, and vice versa. We humans always try to find the cause for everything, but sometimes it's just a compounding of so many factors that it's impossible to keep track of them all.
@Priimerra
@Priimerra 14 днів тому
Interesting that zero range of motion can take all your strength. But in other hand it is just long isometric for the legs and muscles are stronger in isometrics than in concentric so it makes sense that when you go hard in isometrics the muscles are completely spent

Ivan my man your journey is inspiring. I have to say you look really tired at the moment with some blackness around your eyes almost like you've been in a fight. With all due respect bro! How about 2 weeks of alot of sleeping, relaxing with the family at a little house by a lake or something? :) Maybe just some daily bodyweights squats near the water so we can also enjoy the scenery (and the streak can continue that way;) Take care man

I like my approach of hypertrophy training because I know that I am always able to make progress close to my max potential. Even if some muscles are fatigued, I can do maybe just one set, and these things will compound. Though getting the all muscles to failure or close with every set is ideal.
@itsazy
@itsazy 13 днів тому
Does this not indicate a good amount of carry over? Would be interesting to see if just carrying weight would lead to a bigger squat better than just squatting does.
@IvanDjuric300
@IvanDjuric300 13 днів тому
For me I have a weakness on holding the weight in a squat. So I think for me it would be a big benefit if I trained farmers hard.

What are your thoughts on accommodating resistance? Also adding reps is much harder then weight. 12 to 13 is an 8% increase compared to 5kg which is like 2%. Why not add 2.5-5 kgs to the bar for a few sessions for 8-10 reps then come back and retry 180 AMRAP
@Jaquijano2

Why don’t you do a set of heavy pin squats before your AMRAP. You had great success with them before when you had a long streak of hitting 200kg everyday …. Back then you wasn’t as strong either . The pin squats will switch you on big time , they’ll potentiate the AMRAP set much better than farmers walk/ carries

According to Mitch Hooper, throb of the coach of a good athlete is to hold them back. Take 180 x3 as a good thing, next time 180 x 4 and stop, then 180 x 5. Just add a rep, maybe once a week, and top out at a PR weeks from now. Then drop down to 4 reps and repeat the process. I doubt you will listen but at some point I think you will need to take this slow burn approach.
