It is not really backhand not firing in matches that's the problem right now for Stefanos. It is him being hesitant on court due to an accumulation of several injuries over the last year ever since Stefanos Tsitsipas was one match win away from becoming World Number 1 at the Australian Open Final in January 2023. Stef got injured there & then a back injury the 2nd half of the year. Could not get up from his bed in Turin & no training in the off-season. Only rehab. He will need more time.
@dominiccalzettiМісяць тому
yeah, also he doesn't struggle with generating spin - it's a good clay court backhand right now, but yes you're right it's been a timing/position issue when pressed @@bonzwah1

His backhand will always be his Achilles heal until he develops the ability to reduce the whip and be able to generate more power from it when he chooses. This is why the top players defeat him. They naturally go for his weak spot. His forehand and foot work are what save him, most of the time.

Why doesn’t he hit his backhand like this during matches? He needs to play some practice rallies with Dimitrov and Wawrinka
@elektrik_exekutioner682229 днів тому
Because his opponents in matches are playing to win. Look at how his partner plays his shots; he's only playing to rally. In an actual match Tsitsi has a lot less time to set up his shots.

Well, you’re fooled because it is the backhand of a professional and of course it beautiful to see with this angle. But look at the deepth of those shots, it will never be enough against top 20 players now. In addition, the speed doesn’t seem so amazing. Sometimes it’s good to play flat backhand to take time to the opponent, and it seems that Stephanos can’t do this.
