I’ve tried to explain this to people about Jordan. No one expected him to be THAT good. And Jordan revolutionized the game in a way that players are still trying to emulate him 30-40 years later, but they can’t. And Jordan’s career arc and story was incredible. Steph had a similarly incredible story. Jordan’s ability, influence, arc, and story are better than Steph’s, but Steph has a pretty damn good one. Steph truly revolutionized the game and there are a million imitators now, but he is the original. He’s better at his craft than anyone else has been. Forget the 3pt % or whatever, he’s a guy that is dangerous from anywhere past mid court. And the attention he garners from the defense alone is enough to tilt the game in his favor. Truly a revolutionary player.

This team has so many parallels to the Bulls Dynasty. I truly believe this team has what it takes to capture another title. This year will be the dubs toughest season to repeat as so many teams are getting better. This is the only core in the NBA that has achieved greatness multiple times. If they stay focused and stay healthy they’ll get that 5th ring this year along with Kerr coaching them into a more poised team come post season. 2023 is the year…if they get it this year…mark my words they will get 6. The 6th chip might be the most poetic because if they win the chip in 2023 a-lot of teams will be broken up in the offseason and alot of peices will be moved around while GSW will stay in tact. Let go Warriors lets make history !!

I was at that game 1 in SF for the 2022 finals, I’m a Celtics fan (obviously). That one game made me do something I should have never done. Count out steph curry, he once again proved why he is just simply the greatest PG of all time. The level he took it too, was something I’ve only seen steph, Bron, Kobe, Kyrie, Jimmy, and Dirk take it. To franchise changing players, players that single handedly take over entire postseasons. Steph is 100% the greatest PG of all time

One has to wonder how he was able to develop these skills. I mean every player practices and puts in hours to develop their shot. How was he able to get his shot to a level better than every other player ever to play the game? Sure, there are natural talents, but I simply wonder to myself how many shots he took in practice compared to other players starting when he was a kid. I watched his master class, but have to think other players do the same thing. He truly has changed the game, and I really wonder how he did it.

I guess most players made it to the NBA because of their boddy frame and athletic abilities. You know what they say "you can't teach to be tall". Most of the NBA Stars are freaks of nature in one way or the other. Usually they develop and improve their shooting over the course of their carrier. Stephen made it to the NBA because of his shooting abillity, and only because of that. In this regard you can compare him with Larry Bird. He never jumped through the roof, or overpower his opponents. He simply shoot, he is highly talented at that and he work more on that then other, bigger players. Thats his "secret".

Great production as per usual from Joe Vincent. It does appear that Joe doesn't particularly know Curry or basketball all that well. *In my opinion*, dedicating a significant portion of time to helping the viewer to appreciate 2 major aspects about steph - that actually provide crucial insight into what makes steph SO transcedent and revolutionary as a player - is critical in a documentary like this: 1. Opposition coverage - The way teams game-planned to deal with steph in the games. Teams attempted to monitor steph in two ways for the most part. 1a. They constantly physically pressured him on every shot they could. Most drives to the rim had a body knocking in to him, regularly intentionally fouling. If steph got into the paint, the teams made it a priority to, as Shaq would say, "touch him up" in anyway that they could get away with. This physicality forced steph to work incredibly hard every off season to change his body composition, increasing his lean body mass and strength, in order to take the hits with less injury risk. 1b. Steph was always a priority for the defense. He was regularly, if not universally, guarded by the opposition's best defender, and the focus of the opposition's defensive schemata. Maybe other than with KD, teams had a "anyone but Curry" attitude towards their games with the Warriors. 2. Team efficiency / synergy - The way steph improved his team's play. Steph's assist numbers speak for themselves, but aside from that, there is a concept in basketball called a player's "gravity". While it is slightly insubstantial, this idea describes a player's ability to shift the defense into positions that compromise the whole, creating openings for themselves or other teammates on which they can capitalise. Curry, primarily through his preternatural shooting ability, and secondarily through his off-ball movement (cuts, screen-setting, sprinting up the floor on his team's defensive rebound), as well as his on-ball handles and use of the pick-and-roll, forced defenses to throw multiple defenders at him at once, or over a whole posession through switches, creating advantageous matchups, overloaded defenses, and pure space for his team to slice into the seams, often for open layups. This phenomenon occurs for most star players, being the best on the team and thus forcing the opposition to make stopping them their highest priority, however steph curry takes this to levels only seen in the like of MJ (with the Jordan rules), and possibly Lebron (however Lebron is less about off-ball gravity, and more about the expert manipulation of the defense with the ball in his hand similar to Magic Johnson - Still generationally effective!), and arguably beyond even these All-time greats (not necessarily what I'm suggesting! Just that it COULD be argued). Obviously, Stephs marksmanship from all areas of the court is predominantly what makes him a revolution. He has changed the game utterly on the back of this. This is clearly a huge part of this documentary, and rightly so. HOWEVER. To leave it there, not touching on the aforementioned aspects of what makes Steph Curry the basketball player he is, creates (for me) a feeling of superficiality to this documentary. A documentary done by someone with incredible skill at creating a dramatic, powerful piece, with amazing timing and editing, but lacking in real understanding in the greatness of Wardell Stephen Curry, and the depth of the intricacies of basketball as a whole, which is the crux of this critique. Maybe this was more about providing a time-line of Steph's career, and expressing some of the amazing things he's done, but even then, addressing the way that he's HAD to undergo some serious body transformation over the years to deal with self-imparted injury and getting battered game-in, game-out by oppositions that are entirely focused on stopping him adds so much to the viewer's understanding of what makes him great that it borders on a necessity. Please don't read this and think "just another hater." I wouldn't have written a bloody essay if I didn't come to expect excellence from you, Joe. While this was still good, I think you can hit another level in your documentaries if you seek input from fans (or even professionals) that are passionate and well-reasoned, leaving you to the creation of the work, and achieving a greater depth of substantive content. Looking forward to your next upload, Mike.
