I told him “a bunch of stuff you’ve never heard of, but I really love old Genesis.” He smiled, went over to their mom’s old piano, and played the intro to this song. I cannot believe how good Roger King is on the keyboards. His timing as absolutely perfect. How interesting .... I was going to comment that I thought the keyboard player was rubbish. He played all of the right notes in the right order .... but with zero feeling or intonation. Compared to the original intro which was moving beyond belief, this was a very poor second. I think the best performer was Nad on vocals ... I can't believe he isn't more famous.

Totally agree, man. Nad deserves serious accolades. The guy completely nails the phrasing let alone his incredible pipes. Plus he doesn’t need stage theatrics. Just meanders on and off stage because he can.

@@ogdennash2439 Agreed - he stumbles along. I think he's trying to do his own phrasing on the piece, but it doesn't work very well. Still a solid performance which doesn't detract too much from this wonderful piece of music.

the 70s were crazy. We had all these bands, Genesis, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, with some "educated" musicians. But the most interesting (to my taste) was what we called jazz-rock. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Head Hunters, Gateway ( Jack Dejohnette dms). A lot of these jazz musicians were part of the Miles Davis' groups in the 60s and early 70s. Their music didn't age. It's not for ears accustomed to rap and four chords songs.

Progressive Rock my friend, rock bands between 1965-1982 used to experiment their music to another level, with complex rhythms, compositions, virtuoso play. And then Punk Music came to the scene to challenge these virtuoso players with simple, minimalist, compositions but very effective melodies (see ukposts.info/have/v-deo/eqKUqq2Gon-IzHU.html). Punk rock won the battle with Progressive Rock. People want music that is catchy, simple, fun, easy to dance and hear, Progressive is contemplation, spiritual, like watching a landscape. That does that say about our society.

I believe that Steve Hackett, the talented guitarist of *Genesis*, has always remained and certainly the most faithful of all the other members to the original project of the group and is still the one who carries on more coherently, with a sort of "super cover band", the Great Music and the great spirit of the legendary *Genesis*... 🙂 PS) obviously this is a song to listen carefully and see in contemplation!!!

Steve Hackett is grandiose, and his band is stellar. Add in those strings, and the horns at the end… but let’s not forget the keyboards, that intro gets me every time. Steve is the spirit of Genesis the Prog band, Peter told the stories, and Tony is Einstein.
