@tentimes4
@tentimes4 11 місяців тому
Very nice episode seeing how you deal with adversity, but how are you planning for the eventual next stranding? I'd suggest roll of fishing line, retractable dinghy wheels, a can of CRC throttle body air intake cleaner to clean water out of injectors and carbs, and a simple hand pump bailer kept at all times on the boat. You can easily venture more than 5 miles. You two are funny.

Great episode. Lots of lessons learned about preparedness. I like that you all carry a knife that looks like a Marine Corps K-Bar. You all adapted, improvised and overcame. You also didn’t panic and kept a positive attitude. You also clearly had plenty of water to drink. Love you still.

This happened to us a couple of months ago down at Acklins in the Bahamas. Make sure you deflate the tubes and get all of the small micro seashells and sand particles out from between the tubes and the hull, otherwise you risk chafing or popping the tubes.

@BH-by5ky

Bailers, and oars are essential equipment and should be tied onto your dinghy. Old bleach bottles are perfect. Correct, once dinghy is moving the capillary action will suck out the water through drain plugs.

You only needed to turn the bow into the waves. And when coming into a beach with waves back in and let the bow do it's job. I hope this helps. A bow anchor & stern anchor would have prevented that happening.

Hi guys, thanks for the excellent footage and highly entertaining presentation. Guess what you guys need is a lighter dinghy with retractable wheels at the stern. This you can pull up the beach and the incident would not have happened. Your present dinghy is fine and comfortable for areas with infrastructure , i.e. where you can always land at a dock or jetty. Best presently seems to be the OC Tender from New Zealand, but expensive.

Definitely a learning experience for you. You may be able to get a sail and leeboards for your dinghy. There are some suppliers that offer kits for a number of different inflatable dinghy’s. Not perfect or super efficient but perfect when an engine quits. You can get fuel water filter separators for outboards, particularly useful when operating in areas where fuel is often contaminated. Most outboard manufacturers offer OEM versions. Danger Marine has a UKposts channel where they show just this sort of installation for an outboard.

You should get a shame to strain the water out of the gas. A container like a small bucket and a funnel, keep this in the skiff at all times. A bungie cord to hold the shame around the bucket. Then a small 1 gallon jug with a hose to connect back to the motor. All this would be needed. Be nice to have a spark plug wrench to take plugs out and push the water out of the cylinders. That engine will need to be flushed out from all that salt.

Yes as a 30 ft boat owner with 6 ft 20 kg no motor dingy so only puff power I arrange equipment for shore in case I can't get back to boat but so far a few close calls from strong winds currents etc over many months at anchor I always got back but might have to row miles upwind so as to be able to change back to down wind rowing .Been lucky never missed the boat in the dark as always left light on and hit the target .For your dingy a small 6 hp with its own inbuilt tank should be able to go the 5 miles to get back to your boat . 6 hp internal 1/3 USA gallon tank 2 stroke should get about 6 miles and 4 stroke about 8 miles at 4 mph . Good to find out the best cruise range of main motor oon the dingy and back up motor as typical 15 hp camn often go more mpg at slow planning speeds like 10 mph than slow speeds of 4 mph when not over loaded with 2 people or the weight of something like lots of gear or 4 people . If very heavy then boat speeds of ,4 mph on slow will work better .Also clip on beach type wheels to transom could help move boat .Also some sausage fender can act as roller wheels for keel on the beach or at a pinch cut down tree branches and put under keel . PWorse is if engine breaks down and wind blows you offshore good to have everything to survive on the dingy water tent cover food fishing gear for small solar panel to keep telephone radio going and if possible satalite solutions eperb often available with life jackets .Assume this boat is your emergency boat if main ship sinks and have everything always stored on it or near to hand to throw into it after it has been launched . Lots of 5 liter water containers filled to 4 liter mark tied together will float beside dingy stay cooler and act as sea anchor drogues and reduce risks to loose all water in as 20 liter container . Kite sail can help speed up boat to go down wind when wind directions suit the direction you want to go to get back to land or some other target

Good day Sir I now rank your comment as one of the best ever. Your advice and input is very valuable information. We have been thinking if options aside from traditional inflatable dingy as gas is super hard to locate in many areas, dirty and has water in it often, inflatable tubes always a concern when anchoring near rocks or tied to a piling with shells or nails. Again Thank You. Capt W ,

What a way to capture your challenges! I enjoy your videos. Would I have been in equal but different trouble? Don't know. Time will tell. Take care and keep producing those videos.
@DawnHunters
@DawnHunters 11 місяців тому
Hello Rob To be honest the electric would not have been a problem. Zero gas plus your battery is up high from the water. You would have bailed out the water and went home. We are now using the Spirit 1.0 as our backup. Works great. Good luck boating. Capt W and Iana

@@DawnHunters Nice to hear that you are using the Spirit as well. Have you used it enough to have any runtime experience? The specs suggest it can go for several hours as long as you are not running at full speed for long periods. My inflatable is a small two-bench 9-footer.

Found out after leaving the US. Finally located one- a small anchor which is 12.00 in the states was 75.00!!!!! Here. Well 75.00 is better than being stranded all night so yes we now have one. The failure of the waterproof bag is disturbing. Can you share what brand it is and what solution you have found for replacement?
@DawnHunters
@DawnHunters 11 місяців тому
Hello friend! The bags didn’t really fail, our seat compartment didn’t have a drained hole, so all the bags were submersed. And none of these bags are submersible, only waterproof (per their manual) which means you can quickly dunk them in the water or/and they will float ok on the surface if not too heavy. But there are few really submersible bags on the market which have the word “submersible” in their description and they are expensive ($200+). There is couple of submersible items from yeti and fishpond. After this situation I’ve decided to invest in a submersible backpack and a sling from fishpond. Can’t rely on these wet bags for valuable things.

Gary Not true- phones with 1 bar 3g can’t call anyone and were dead after 3 hours as when in roaming mode iPhone batteries only last a fraction of the time. Even if phones were working who would you call?? This is not like other locations where seatow or boat us comes to your rescue. In our ditch bag we always have a radio but could not raise anyone on any channel. There was a restaurant nearby so the next morning we found a Manager who was kind enough to call the Warden and ask if he could come get us. 4 hours later the Warden arrived. And yes we had oars in the boat but to row 5 miles with swift ocean currents between islands is not real smart. Back on the boat we have Starlink so that keeps us online.
