Jerome was mostly correct about the names for meats, except he forgot to mention the conquerers called it thing like venison and beef, and the englishmen called it deer and cow, and since the conquerers were the ones who ate meat (as it was expensive), their terminology stuck and was later adopted by future noble englishmen
