Hey! My name is Hafu Go and I'm a dreamer. For the past year, I made it my life mission to study patterns of success for students. I traveled across the world to interview students from top schools like Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. I was born in China and went to elementary school there. But when I was 9 I moved to Canada. So I wanted to go back to China to experience the high school life. Chinese high school students are top students in the world and this video will reveal why.

As a Chinese student who has completely experienced this kind of high school life, I would like to say that although this learning mode can indeed enable students to obtain high scores in a short period of time, we have given up a lot, such as practical ability, communicative ability, physical fitness level... We are constantly writing homework every day, just for an exam. Now that I am in college, I found that many aspects of my life are very bad. For example, I am not good at communicating with people, and I cannot play various sports and musical instruments. This learning mode wastes my time to learn social knowledge healthily, and I hate it.

@Renaknight
@Renaknight Рік тому
@@JP-rn5ob it's just a matter of person. Most people will commit themselves to things if maintained within such a routine they have. You probably won't even have time to worry and have anxiety because all you should be doing is work, focusing on rest or eating. In my opinion it's very efficient way. Having anxieties never helps it only makes you hesitate it second guess yourself but if you commit to study then that fear of not knowing is probably not as Intense

Personally, as an Asian student, this schedule is normal for us, even back then when I was in secondary school (grade 6-9) we spent 9 hours per day at school after that is 2-3 hours extra class and the rest of the day is for homework. The teacher always takes break time, PE, or any other kinds of creative subjects (arts, music) for main subjects (literature, math, English). When you are used to it, it is not that stressful and tiring. But now, when I have gone abroad and currently studying in an international school, I realized that’s too much

And the best way to focus on the subject you learn is love it, if you truely love something you will never be distract with it, i promise. I have learned a lot but they gave me the wrong thing to learn and after 3 and 4 years i complete forget them. That is the mainly reason why our income is really low. From my experience, it's definitely great. But only if you're motivated. You're keeping in step with excellently performing people, so it encourages you to do better. There's a competitive edge to it and it makes you want to be the best version of yourself. But the thing is, once you start burning yourself out, it becomes an actual hellhole. Being surrounded in such an environment can actually discourage you if you so much as lag behind. Sometimes I couldn't help but feel like I didn't deserve to be there because everyone was doing so well and I wasn't. It's almost isolating. If you do go to a school like this, I wish you luck!

I get the temptation of that, when you have the natural ability to handle a course without intense study why study for something you have little use for. However, the school system (at least in America) is built to build discipline more then anything so avoiding doing all the work destroys what little purpose there is in public school these days. It varies per school of course but work hard, even if you don't feel you have to.

As a Taiwanese who often observes Chinese society, your message seems really ironic. For example, some people blowing air conditioners on the sofa said to farmers who live in straw huts and have health problems due to heavy labor: "You can contact nature and move your body every day. Although you are tired, you are very happy." These students spend 16 hours a day. They study for hours, but they may only sleep 4 hours, and are prohibited from using the Internet. Clothing must fully comply with school regulations. Most schools even require girls to have hairstyles above the ears (the teacher may force you to cut off your bangs) ). In fact, a large number of students die suddenly or are left with physical and mental problems every year. I have seen many Chinese messages, all of which mentioned that a student died on campus. He may have jumped from a building or failed to take a rest, but the school and senior officials suppressed the news. Even students from the same school, almost no one knew who died. Their death is like a stone thrown into the sea, without even a ripple. A superficial understanding creates a ridiculous longing, I can only say this.

The final year of my schooling had us going to classes 11 hours /day. But before that, we had classes during the 2 month vacation between grades to finish teaching around half of the syllabus for the final year, so halfway through the final year, we were done with the teaching part, and the rest of the year, we had self-study sessions for one and half hours followed by a test every single day for around 10 hours considering lunch and recess. Yeah, I got a great score on the final test, but I also got burnt out and developed anxiety-related insomnia that I still struggle with even as a young adult.

The fact that they can spend the entire day studying, and "most" go back to their dorms at the end of the day to study a little more, really shows you that their study's are no longer a normal activity that they either enjoy doing or hate doing. It has become something so conditioned into them, that it is simply something they do autonomously with little to no resistance. Studying is reflexive and no longer becomes about whether they feel like doing it or not.

I can't help wonder if they're really depressed. Maybe they're just used to it, but I can't imagine anyone getting accustomed to something as intense as this. My heart goes out to all the students who aren't as academically inclined, as this time in life must be really lonely for them. These kids are extraordinary

Depression comes from having too much free time and doing nothing. These kids are the opposite, no free time and constantly doing. Chinese are communal, receive alot of support from family, community and government. Their outlook seems hopeful and exciting.

It's also normal in Indonesia, it known as "Siswa Ambis" which means ambitious students. Here students are studying full-time and take an extra lesson just for pursuing their dream faculty in University, because they think that they will be easier to get a proper job if they are graduated from the "most needed faculty" in a prestigious university. And parents will gossips with their colleagues about their children's achievements like study or careers, so it push the students harder to achieve their dreams for makes their parents proud.

as our country study system, we need to complete high school study and 2 years college study above different group.. science, commerce and arts. then choosing subject we need to give exam in university. if anyone want to read in medical college.. he/she need to give medical admission test.. really too much difficult.. need to give exam differently for different subject. when I were in high school and college before admission test. maybe I didn't sleep more than 6 hour. even sometimes I didn't sleep 6 hours too. but sometimes when I feel sleepy just sleep for 1 hour.

@@paulinarios3665 it’s due to the competition in China, there’s only around 6 in 10000 that would be able to get into the best two universities in China which he mentioned, and around half of them even going through the final university entrance examination (Gaokao) they will still end up holding a diploma, so every mark really count. There’s around 10 million people taking the Gaokao every single year in China and one mark difference can lead to over 10000 difference in the final position ranking.
