The importance of a talented casting director. Casting is such an art form. It was underrated for a very long time, and awards for casting often not even given. Probably a lot of actors could have done a reasonably good job with Greg. But Nicholas was such a perfect choice.

@@kshamwhizzle6544 Logan was setting them up to lose every time. Also, Kendall and Shiv are "serious people". Kendall has had years of experience within the corporation and Shiv has had an independent career entirely without the help of her father. Roman is suffering from CPSTD, caused by Logan!!! It is disgusting that a parent would tell his offspring that they are not "serious people". Logan is a classic narcissist. He sets up a 'golden child' and a 'scapegoat' to play them off against each other. Logan keeps switching those roles around them to keep them trauma bonded to him and under his control. They feel genuine love for each other and their father but Logan secretly has low self worth (all narcissists do) and he is incapable of love. So Logan resents that his offspring can feel love and empathy. Kendall, Shiv and Roman should feel a sense of importance over Frank etc. because Logan is their blood! It is their inheritance they are fighting for.

I saw Logan's underlying motivation very different than Cox did. Logan was NEVER going to give his kids the company. Succesion was never in his plan. He is a pathological narcisist, consuming kids and wives alike. He is incapable of loving like normal people do. His brother, and his son, had him right in their eulogies. We get glimpses of humanity at the irish song scene in final episode, but its only fleeting. In other news, Nicholas Braun is hillarious.

@larkmus1
@larkmus1 Рік тому
Brian's advice to his character was as though he hadnt picked up on the fact that his character is a narcissist who damaged his children in exactly the way narcissists do: manipulating people with an unrestrained conscience, only doling out praise or support or attention when it served him and having no qualms about cutting someone down so that he stayed on top...even when that person was his child. He pits the siblings against each other instead of encouraging them to support each other--because together, they might be too strong for him; he refuses to be a "loser," and he views his kids' success as a threat to his status. His kids are emotionally stunted, unable to be vulnerable with each other or intimate with their spouses because in the Roy family, mistakes and weaknesses become ammunition. When a narcissistic parent (like Logan) makes their child feel like they'll never be good enough, they end up somewhat broken, chasing "good enough" for the rest of their life, desperately trying to prove themselves because they never got that affirmation from the one person they absolutely SHOULD have heard it from. The kids are all deeply afraid of being perceived as inadequate or foolish, which is why theyre so mean and aloof with everyone, including each other. Their childhood is hinted to be a traumatic one, and how could it be anything but? If you can't be emotionally safe at home, with family, with your dad, then no one and nothing seems safe. I think that's the heart of the show--there is comedy and smart writing, but the depth comes from the great tragedy of a dad being unable to love his kids in the way every kid needs to be loved, and the fallout that goes with that. So yea, I was pretty shocked Brian said exactly what his character would say.

Not just emotional abuse but we know for a fact that Roman got physically abused as a kid and there's been zero acknowledgement from Logan of that. Kendall, being the oldest of the trio, and assuming the protective brother role immediately when things go south, probably has had his share of lashings. Connor, checking out early mentally and being distant from the corporate politic, has probably also fared his share of trauma. Brian takes no accountability of any if this and reduces it to his children 'not being serious enough'. This is as disturbing as when Amanda Seyfried ended up empathising with Elizabeth Holmes while playing her and thought it unfair that she had to carry forward her pregnancy in a detention facility.

Brian's idea is so interesting. You can see how deeply he understands Logan's want for one of them to suvmcceed him but they always fall short one way or another. But then he understands the flaw in Logan: the man needs to let go. He's going to go one way or another and his biggest flaw is that he doesn't pick any and it's probably going to lead to an even bigger conflict when he dies. At this point watching, I've always picked shiv but they usually work best when they're working together. Or worse.

that;s the point, logan never actually did put those eggs into those particular baskets. when i hear brian cox talk about logan and his kids’ incompetence, i feel like he might be just as bad as logan. or just blind to his character’s ruthlessness. logan was willing to f_ck his own son and throw him to the wolves just to keep himself out of prison. logan manipulated kendall in a moment and on a point of extreme sensitivity at the end of season one. he saw a chance to have him in his pocket and operate him like his little personal robot. and those are only two of many memorable instances of his fatherly love. it’s a little bit late of logan, now that he’s with one foot closer to the grave, to be disappointed. his kids are what he made them. he has three kids, and none of them is not f_cked up. there must be a reason for that, no?
@kajamiletic3223
@kajamiletic3223 Рік тому
He has four kids, lol, don't forget about Connor. And Logan's parenting is literally why authoritarian parenting is always hoisted by one's own petard: in order for any of the kids to be good leaders, they need experience leading, and Logan absolutely refuses to give them this experience because it would mean giving up some of his own control. Whenever one of his kids even tries to show initiative or be competent in some way, he cracks down on them immediately even if it's not the most business savvy thing to do, because he just can't stand it. And then he's disappointed that none of them are competent. Does he love them? Yes. But he loves them in an extremely controlling way, where he simultaneously resents them for not being functional adults and really desperately doesn't want them to be functional adults because it makes him irrelevant and powerless.
@ocg6
@ocg6 Рік тому
I agree. Even though he wants one of kids to be good enough to lead the company his own ego wont let him step down even when it would be better for the company when he had his stroke in season 1
@kajamiletic3223
@kajamiletic3223 Рік тому
@@ocg6 I kinda feel like throughout the show we see that none of the kids would do well on their own but also have their own unique talents. Like, Kendall is deeply uncharismatic (he's an adorable woobie on the show but imagine meeting him IRL, he'd be incredibly punchable), but he has his finger on where the industry is going, like they are trying to do in S4 what Kendall wanted to do from the start, but now they're the one getting fucked. Siobhan is really good at the detail stuff and at talking with actually serious people and projecting an air of confidence and stability, but she's also very self-important and doesn't know much about the business itself. Roman is a messed up edgelord who knows jack shit about the details, but he's street smart, good at reading people and by S4 seems the most down to earth one of the three. The thing is, Logan pits them against each other so much they literally throw away any substantive ideas they might have had to the company just to grasp onto power more firmly and soothe their egos, and then he complains that none of them are succeeding and goes, "there, I knew it that you were incompetent."

@@kajamiletic3223 Agreed. I just can’t see any reason to pity him or empathize. @katerinagian2313
@katerinagian2313 Рік тому
I agree, 100%. It's a fact that after a certain point we, not our parents, are in charge of our own development. This, however, applies to Logan as well. Not hearing any sign of responsibility or remorse for the way his children turned out, or for his own actions, is something I expected from Logan, but not from the actor playing him. Especially the part where he talks about their "lack of worth", that was hard to hear. Even if it's true, it was never followed by his own involvement in their development as professionals, as well as people. I gotta say, for a man the intellectual size and versatility of Brian Cox, I expected a more inclusive interpretation of his character.

I took it more as him speaking from the perspective of Logan, which show me one person that has that level of self awareness, can own up to every messed thing they’ve done and can speak frankly about their part in someone else’s suffering? I haven’t met one. We always see our own side as the victim side. That’s just flawed human nature. So I think Brian is speaking about how Logan sees the situation. And sure, Logan wanted one of his kids to be the “killer” that he is, and not one of them had it. He does blame himself for that, because indeed, they’re spoiled, and that means he failed as a father. He does love them in his narcissistic, broken way, otherwise he wouldn’t even have bothered to try and groom Kendall to take over. Broken parents that love us but fuck us up are a very common occurrence in the real world. Both things can most certainly be true at the same time. He did seriously consider Shiv and Roman at certain points, to then change his mind about their preparedness. It’s all true from Logan’s messed up, biased perspective. Q1: "Who do you like acting with?" Answers: "the one I act with most often is X, and second most often is Y" Q2: "What if there was a succession videogame?" ... More and more, I'm starting to feel like hollywood reporters don't really watch the show, and if they do, they don't get it. The questions are always generic or stupid. There are so many bad interviews of this cast, it's unreal. Like, I'm begging you, if you can't find somebody who gets the show to interview the cast, just don't do it. Can't you see these guys are tired? The studio keeps them up for like 20 hours straight doing these shits. Leave them to their families and stop wasting everyone's time.

where is Jeremy Strong in all these cast interviews?
@eeeeks
@eeeeks 11 місяців тому
I don’t think his acting style is well received by some of the other cast members-according to a vanity fair article I recently read. He’s kind of hard core. Kieran Culkin isn’t impressed nor are a couple of others.

@@eeeeks wow! it makes sense, he HAS got to be another Jared Leto ¨very very method¨ I mean I tried seeing interviews of him and he is cringe irl too, also I know im probably wrong but I always feel like he is lowering his voice some Austin Boutler and Elvis kinda ish...anyway thanx!

@@lazaromurad322 I don’t know if it’s cringe or not. He gets good results but for him personally, it might not be in his best interest in terms of having friendships, etc. I think he’s an excellent actor.
