Ryu was an insane reveal back then! It kind of stunk that there were references to him and Roy in an uodate's code prior to the reveal. It ruined the surprise, but if the devs weren't releasing patch notes, how else were people supposed to learn about changes? I remember people going nuts over all the different moves Ryu had, and worrying about having to memorize command inputs. 6+ years later, and Kazuya is making Ryu look like a starter fighter! I will say that I regret the stage choice for the Street Fighter series. Big pits and a walkoff? Who likes to play on this stage? The other "fighting game" fighters (Terry Bogard and Kazuya Mishima) got WAY more interesting and fun stages, both of which are more similar to their source games. (Honestly, new stages in Smash Bros Ultimate are way better than they were in past games, with no stinkers I can think of.)

RIP President Iwata. You will be missed.

THIS is why I wanted Smash Bros. DLC. I still don't see why people didn't want DLC.

The fact that Ryu was added is really underrated. Street Fighter 2 is one of more iconic fighting games of all time and one of the first fighting games. Literally Ryu was added.

any one notice how sakurai organized his amiibos by when they came to smash, he has smash 64 characters in box one, then the character after that are melee, then last of box 1 and top half of box 2 are brawl and the rest of box 2 is smash 4.

I’m so glad Ryu from Street Fighter was added. This is what got me hyped for smash. He will always be my main.

Why are people so mad or annoyed that there's five FE characters? I'm actually happy that there are more. What we don't need is more Mario characters. We got like 11 of them fools?

I feel so bad for Ryu being robbed of such a thunderous reveal. Announced and released on the exact same day, but spoilers and leaks taking away any of the hype that would have been associated with that. That lost of hype I feel contributes to his smaller player base to this day.

Welcome back, Roy! Cool costumes! Really look forward to trying them. Sweet! I wondered when these would be coming! My god, those SSB64 stages brings so many good memories! Not sure what I should feel about Ryu being in Smash, honestly. How do you make a character who originates in a Fighting game with hard to pull combos, into a beat-em up fighting game?

I remember back getting so hyped by this at the time

I'm here after rewatching the Terry Bogard Smash presentation. I thought that love and care were put in Ryu's development, but that was nothing compared to Terry's passion translated into work...

Well, I'd been spoiled about Ryu and Roy, but holy crap did I not see Ryu's mechanics coming! ATM he's looking like the only DLC character I'll buy.
