My first time watching this episode, my wife and I had just experienced a miscarriage, and I was in a terrible state of mind. The “as I was saying before I was rudely interrupted by the multitude of jumping salmon on either side of my kayak” line made me absolutely cry laughing. And that was my first time laughing in a few weeks. Thank you for that Les.

Great show 😊. Man vs wild was cool...but not very realistic. Survivorman was much more down to earth. Bear Grylls was ex special forces...the average person won't take the risks he took on man vs wild. Les stroud ..no cameraman....nobody with him...uses what he finds along the way. Like the average person in a dire situation. Bring this show back !

Thanks for sharing this, my friend. Funny enough, I actually secured a job in Alaska that I'll be starting next month. Back in January it was a done deal that I'd be getting the job but I was still working my old gig. One day I was overcome with a deep feeling that it was finally time to quit after five years of being with them. Right then and there, while on a job site, I told the crew I was leaving and drove away. About a minute after driving out I saw a bald eagle flying directly over my car. I couldn't help but take it as a sign from the universe. Now I'm watching Les in Alaska and I see your comment. Much love brother, take care out there.

At my last job (ranger) we had to camp out in tents during the winter. We'd survive the night by putting boiling water into plastic bottles and then putting them into our sleeping bags. It was efficient because in the morning you had safe, drinking water to enjoy! (Or you could reheat the water for the next night). We also had stones that we'd heat up as well. It's important to not use a gas heater in tents because of the confined space you can become poisoned. Oh, also if you have a tent, don't put it under a tree with dead upper limbs as those are called 'widow makers' by rangers. Because they can fall off with only a slight breeze and crush you while you sleep (making your spouse a widow). Always best to camp out in a small clearing. And if you HAVE TO camp under trees (dense forest), make sure the tree above you is as healthy as possible with no dead limbs ideally.

Anyways I love the part when you said Alaska is so large that it could fit the 21 smallest states inside it. See as a kid I knew it was big but because of the maps I'd seen I didn't quite understand it till a few years later when my friend told me Alaska was bigger then Texas and I showed him the map and told him maybe sure doesn't look bigger. And he showed me this geography book he had and showed me a realistic interpretation of the world map, blew my young mind, I must have been like 10-11yo. I need to go there someday, I remember going to the coast in Oregon and Washington and it was strange seeing the rainforest there, like the ice cold ocean would literally give you a brain freeze like when you eat too much ice cream to fast, but then you'd see rain come in and the rain would feel warm on your skin and clouds of mist would roll down the mountainside to the sea. Spectacular. That was almost 15 years ago and I remember ever part of it all the sensations I felt.

Les Stroud is THE survivalist. Bear Grylls may have the knowledge, the grit and the bravery (bravery to some, stupidity to others), but at the end of the shoot he'd go to a hotel and eat three course meals. Plus Bear had camera crews and producers on board behind the scenes. But Les, he was ALONE! Les operated the cameras and directed it himself. He's very knowledgeable, he is so freaking smart, he is just pure skill, while Bear was just a show off, trying to be a showman. Les Stroud is just awesome! I think I watched every Survivorman episode growing up. I learned so much from Les and still recall things from his show that I could use in different scenarios. Many tried making survival shows, but none were like Les Stroud, the Survivorman!

Les Stroud is legend. He is one of very few people I look up to. He is just so knowledgeable about fauna, flora, medicines, cultures, history, landscapes, and so much more. The guy is so smart. I remember when he has a thing where he would teach people survival things in his class, I really wanted to do that. I love this guy so much. Thank you for posting the best survival show that ever was and ever will be.

The thing about Bear Grylls, he doesn’t film to survive like Les. He films to educate us, he guarantee he would do just fine without a camera crew but he said in a BBC interview years ago he makes his shows to teach us techniques and show how to do apply them.

After all these many years of watching... I just noticed at 45:19 that there's a "hair" person on the production team? Made me smile. From Tokyo

And I get to enjoy this episode after years! I remember watching this right after Grills, and laughing about how much better he survived up here than that fake.

I wonder around what part of this episode he had his Sasquatch experience. I kind of wish he talked about it here.

When he was building his shelter. Specifically weaving the greenery in. You see him stop and look around many times while building. He mentions it during an interview I've heard.

40:09 has the best timing of a fish jumping in the background as he's saying how unlucky he's been trying to catch fish lol

I'm sooo thankful for these videos, I'm learning tons of survival and he's a very humble, likeable person. I'm enjoying every bit of what I see although I feel for him in his ordeals of course

I never leave home without four things a multi-tool, a fixed blade knife, a leather belt and a fire starter. You never know when you might need them! I have been watching your show since i was in high school and many of the things i have used i learned from watching you. Thanks Les!

Awesome all the episodes have been uploaded to UKposts!👍👍 Missed watching the real OG went in comes to actual survival skills. Not the phony Bear Grills bs.

Super big thanks for posting these, Les. I haven't had a TV/Netflix/Hulu or whatever for years and forgot how much I enjoyed the Survivorman series. I'm excited to see what you are cooking up now.

The torture that Les subjected himself to for the sake of the video is admirable.

I've learned so much from each and every episode wow. What he said about keeping your mind together and positive It's vitally important. Not panicking and thinking out clearly. I love what you said about being lucky..... All fishermen know that.
