The Whale Sharks tour of Oslob, Cebu is one of the top attractions for tourists visiting Philippines. At Oslob, visitor has the option to swim, snorkel, or dive with one of these gentle giants. The city of Oslob is quite a distance from Cebu City but the experience was worth the long and early commute. There is an ethical decision on whether tours like this is right, I think each of us have our own opinion and this tour has left me quite a bit to think about.

WAIT! You went to the Philippines? How did I miss this development 😂 I hope you had a fantastic time. Not sure what your plans are/were, but if you get the chance to go to Palawan, the snorkeling there is amazing. Also, Balicasag (an island off of the coast of Bohol) is a great spot for coral and sea turtles. I'm Filipino and we go back every few years and were just there a couple months ago!

Daniel stan Dude ,I want to do this MYSELF!!! Hopefully I will go next summer (2019) to CANCUN, MEXICO, where it's whale shark season from June to September. This is done in many parts of the world, different TIMES of the year. I looked up in Google and the places where whale sharks gather up depends on the TIME OF THE YEAR. So....I will go next summer hopefully to CANCUN MEXICO in August.

You should get another predatory fish for the drop off. You could get another frog fish and call it Daifuku or you could get a mantis shrimp or fumanchu lion.

I'm in the don't feed the wildlife camp. I fact the phrase comes to mind everytime I pull up to a red light in my hometown and am solicited for money, it seems, at almost every intersection. If you look at one of the whale sharks that was in the group it appears that it had lost the tip of his tail to a prop blade. But money talks and the mob rules. Thank you for giving us a window into your experience and the way that you spoke of it was well said.

david chilton it could of lost the tip of its fin to anything. Maybe a giant squid a killer whale or a shark, the ocean is a dangerous place.

These whale sharks are educated. They still go their way eating in the wilds naturally. Some bitter naturalist just wanted to be recognized because this is very popular. What they should do is concentrate on the animals being hunted or killed by poachers like pangolins, myna, elephant, rhinos, etc.

yes, some would say let them go wild, but most say keep them to keep them alive from poachers. what do you think. they're more alive in oslob

This is so wrong. First of all you are messing with the eco system. Secondly, these poor whale sharks are starting to get scars everywhere from boats and people accidentally bumping into them. Do not do this. There are ethical ways to watch them, without feeding them and keeping the right distance.
@86moonnight
@86moonnight 5 років тому
@Hiro Nito In DONSOL they know what they're doing, not in Oslob. Feeding them fish interferes with their migration pattern, the closeness to people and boats physically harms them and also makes them more adapted to danger. You SHOULD worry!!!
@86moonnight
@86moonnight 5 років тому
@Hiro Nito Hiro, I've seen it. Also, if you do a quick research on youtube or anywhere online, you will see it too!! We should all START worrying before it's too late. It's ALWAYS wrong to feed wild animals. Period. 4 REASONS TO AVOID OSLOB: 1. Many people don’t follow whale shark interaction code of conduct. Participants who breach the guidelines given during briefings are not penalized. 2. The feeding in Oslob is teaching whale sharks that boats and humans mean food. Oslob whale sharks are now observed to actively approach boats instead of avoiding them. 3. The natural season for whale sharks in Oslob lasts for only 60 days. However, as fishermen import food from other regions to feed the whale sharks, they are now staying in Oslob for much longer instead of moving on to other regions. As of 2013, the longest recorded stay for a whale shark in Oslob was Mr. Bean, who had stayed for 392 days! 4. Aside from breeding, the lack of migration also poses another problem - instead of moving with the nutritious blooms of plankton, the whale sharks are now also eating less natural food that is not complete for their nutritional needs.
