*Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone 400m Hurdles SHOCKING Comeback | Femke Bol in Big Mess!*
In the world of track and field, anything is possible and no decision is permanent… Things are bound to change with changing priorities. That’s right guys. If you thought America’s queen of hurdles Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone would not hurdle this season, think again! See, last season McLaughlin-Levrone came out to announce her decision to officially switch from the 400-meter hurdles to the 400-meter flat. In fact, for the entire 2023 season, Sydney McLaughlin who is the defending Olympic and World Champion in the 400-meter hurdles did not hurdle at all. She only participated in a few 400-meter events, peaking at the USA Outdoor Championships in July where she clocked a phenomenal 48.74 seconds, becoming the third U.S. woman to dip under 49 seconds. But when we all expected to see her competing at the world championships in Budapest, McLaughlin-Levrone dropped the sad news of her withdrawal sighting a minor knee injury.
Since then, McLaughlin-Levrone has not raced in any event until the other weekend when she made her season debut at the 64th Annual Mt. Sac Relays over the women’s 4 by 100 meters relay where her team emerged second with a time of 42.93 seconds. And even after making a season debut, nobody expected that McLaughlin would hurdle this season.

Femke Bol stated she is looking forward facing Sydney on the hurdles. Femke is likely to break the 51 seconds treshold also this year due to her getting used now to her new stride pattern between the hurdles. Everybody is expecting greatness when these titans clash in Paris.

@@Benbbg The PR of Femke is 51.45 run july 23rd 2023 just having changed her stride pattern earlier that year. Her 400m speed over all has improved considerable this year shown by her breaking the WR of the 400m indoor several times. She said the new stride pattern helps her improving the first 200m where she lost most of the time on Sydney at their last encounters without impairing her very strong last 100m where she should take some time on Sydney. The first outdoor meet for her is the Diamond League 400m hurdles at Stockholm june 2nd. It surely will be very close at the Olympics.

“Femke Bol is in a big mess!” = Click bate! Femke is NOT in a big mess and how do you know that Sydney is bringing her “A game” in the 400h? She hasn’t run it for 1 1/2 years!!! Femke is less than 0.8 seconds behind Sydney’s WR…and will continue to improve considering that she’s been running the event for 3-4 years less than Sydney!

@Keepdapocket
@Keepdapocket 14 днів тому
When you say 3-4 years less, you’re speaking teenage years. Femke started out as a flat 400 runner in her teens, where as Sydney started as the hurdler. However, that doesn’t matter. Femke has been in the hurdler game as a professions for a while now, and has experience.. what you’re suggesting would matter if Femke has only ran for two years to Sydney’s 8 years. Femke has been in every single big race, and proven herself more than worthy the past 5 years. That’s a lot of experience! As for “improving”, don’t forget they are the same age. This isn’t a Dalilah Muhammad/ Sydney situation; where one was just ending her prime and the other was coming into her prime. Femke and Sydney is prime versus prime, same age versus same age. While Femke can improve, so too can Sydney. Everyone is talking about Femke’s inside season, and rightfully so. It was extraordinary. But, here is what you’re missing. Femke is chasing Sydney, while Sydney is chasing a record. When chasing a record, training is much different. It’s extremely technical. That means improvement. It’s no coincidence Sydney ran on the 4x100 team. That is letting you know she is improving her raw sprint speed for better turnover; getting her out of that mode of rhythm runnng that’s required in the 400. Sydney is working on bursts; Femky is working on sustainable top speed; hence all those indoor 400’s. So, which improvement is better? Well, in my opinion, both runners are strong and conditioned, so that’s a wash. Femke’s hurdle technique isn’t the best. Sydney’s activity isn’t the best; meaning races. So, it will be interesting.
@rientsdijkstra4266
@rientsdijkstra4266 14 днів тому
@@Keepdapocket You analogy of Femke starting as a flat runner and Sydney starting as a hurdler doesn't work... Hurdling is a very technical discipline. Therefore in Hurdling experience and muscle memory from years of fine-tuning are much more important than in say the 400 flat. (I know because I have been a rowing coach for many years, also a technical / endurance sport. For rowers to, the real top level performance certainly don't come before the 5th year of experience). Femke started as a hurdler in 2019. Yet she got a BRONZE at the OG in Tokio, with only2 (!) years of experience. That is WILD. And at that Olympic games in 2021 McLaughlin, who started on the hurdles in 2014 got Gold with 51.46, with 7 years of experience as a hurdler. However, in 2023 Femke ran a 51.45 in London, which is the 3d time ever (!) and which would have gotten Gold at the OG in Tokio last year, with at that moment only 4 years of experience (and only a few months after making the difficult switch to the 14 step stride). Also I don't believe in your theory about chasing somebody making your training different. Femke is a very smart girl and her coach Laurent Meuwly is one of the very best, and these people are a lot more sophisticated in their methods than that.
@Keepdapocket
@Keepdapocket 14 днів тому
@@rientsdijkstra4266 that’s not believing. I don’t believe your opinion either. It’s all respectful. While hurdling is technical, there is a difference. You seem to know track, but not sure if you ever did the hurdles. The 100/110 huddles is much more involved technically than the 400 hurdles. The snapping is different. The bosy positioning is different. What isn’t a difference of opinion, but rather a fact, is The 400 hurdling technique is much less technical than its 100/110 counterpart. Never the less, you missed my point, or didn’t read completely. I stayed Femke can improve her technique. We agreed on that part, but I stated that already. However, let’s breaks down your points. I won’t recite your whole chronological events, but you failed to mention Sydney’s improvement,as well. When she joined Coach Bobby, the first thing he did was enter her in the 100 meter hurdles, to improve her technique. So, while you mention what Femke did on 2019 and all of that, Sydney’s technique was HORRIBLE when she was running those GOLD times. What you didn’t understand about my post is a simple thing. Experience isn’t a factor when it’s 7 years versus 5 years. Example for you: Muhammad versus Sydney. Muhammad,. While extremely talented, didn’t have the raw talent that Sydney had. She had the experience. By running those big races, Sydney gained experience. She took over. Muhammad had been running for 10 years in big meets compared to 3 years for Sydney. Your example, Femke has been running in big meets now for quite some time, the experience factor is null and void. Now it’s about tweaking techniques; that could mean running form, hurdling form, strategy, anything.
@rientsdijkstra4266
@rientsdijkstra4266 14 днів тому
@@Keepdapocket When it is about 5 years versus 7 years experience may not matter that much anymore. But my words are aimed at people in these discussions that shout that Femke did "never beat" Sydney. And that refers to the years 2021 and 2022 (the only 2 times they ever met on track!) And in those years Femke had 2 resp 3 years of experience versus Sydney 7 resp 8 years. And 2 or 3 years versus 7 or 8 years really DOES count. To round off: I am glad that you to see that Femke has headroom to improve her technique, which I think she will do.

You Euro's are homers for Bol. Femke is just not as fast as Sydney. Yesterday May 4th, Sydney won a 200m race in 22.38. Bols best 200m is 22.88. Sydney just has better foot speed than Femke. Even if Femke and Sydney are equal in hurdle technique, Sydney just has better foot speed which should translate in a Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone victory. Euro's, don't give me Sydney hasn't competed in 1.5 years. This race was yesterday, May 4th, 2024. By the way, Sydney won the race. She also won the 100m Hurdles in 12.71. Her first 400m H will be on May 18yh. Watch it and weep.
@rientsdijkstra4266
@rientsdijkstra4266 6 днів тому
I wonder why you feel such need to "prove" that mrs McLaughlin is "faster"? Could that be a deep insecurity maybe? Anyway, lets simply analyse what the numbers of those early attempts by mrs McLaughlin actually MEAN: A.) 12.71 is 0.59 above the world record on the 100 meter hurdles for women. So on the 400 hurdles that would equate to 50.68 + 4x 0.59 = 53.04 (!)... A nice time for a season opener, but nowhere near (!) what will eventually be necessary. B.) Then that 200 meter time. What you forgot to mention is that this was "not legal" because of a tailwind of +2.9 m/s... So this 22.4 is basically a 22.5 or 22.6, which is comparable to the 22.64 that Femke Bol ran INDOOR this year, 1 hour after having run a 400 meter.... So, again, that is hardly enough to beat Femke, who is known to be a relatively slow starter and not a 100m or 200m specialist... (Femke takes her winnings by her efficienty and ability to keep her speed and even "kick" on the last stretch to the finish, where others die...) C.) That "foot speed" of yours. Did you ever realize that on the longer (than 200 meter) distances there is a more important factor than "foot speed": LEG LENGTH? Femke has about 10 cm LONGER legs than Sydney's legs. This is part of the explanation why Femke is a relatively "lazy" starter: those long levers simply make it harder to get moving... However, once you are moving, those long legs also give a more efficient stride which leads to less los of energy and less build up of lactic acid, end that takes us back to what I said before: Femke's forte is her ability to tap into an extra source of energy when the others start to die, coming out of that last bend and on the last stretch to the finish. I can show you a few dozen races from last season, and from this years indoor season, where Femke always pulls away from her competitors coming into that last straight. And that has nothing to do with that famous "foot speed" of yours, it has all to do with great form, a very efficient stride and great energy management + the ability to still kick when lactic is kicking in. THAT is Femke's power on the 400... (for example: see the finals of the womens 4x400 at the WC in Budapest, or the final of the 400 meter indoor WC in Glasgow). So, in total, I think it is MUCH to early to already draw conclusions on the basis of the first few tentative efforts by Sydney... Maybe that after the 18th of may we will be able to say a little more about the Sydney's form.

Bol is the truth - that matchup will be epic!! Sydney is great, but if you take that much time off, you're not gonna be as hot as you once were; I wouldn't be surprised if Bol takes gold in Paris...I don't know about taking the OR, but, taking the goal is highly possible.

Yesterday, May 4th Sydney ran again and won the 100m hurdles in 12.71 and also won the 200m in 22.38. She is coming for the beloved Femke Bol. I would say 0.77 seconds is a huge distance in the 400m H. I like Bol. She is a great athlete. As good as she is, Sydney just has better foot speed. It will take a lifetime best for her to get close to Sydney unless Sydney runs even faster than her current world record.

@@davidzuk4894 I wonder why you feel such need to "prove" that mrs McLaughlin is "faster"? However, once you are moving, those long legs also give a more efficienty stride which leads to less los of energy and less build up of lactic acid, end that takes us back to what I said before: Femke's forte is her ability to tap into an extra source of energy when the others start to die, coming out of that last bend and on the last stretch to the finish.

If Sydney becomes a double Olympic champion in 2024, it’ll be either the 400m or the 400h (not both) plus the 4 x 400!

They ran Twice against each other once in 2021 once in 2022. But Bol started on the hurdles in 2019. So she was still a NOVICE in those days.
