Hello Reinhard, I don't do assembly work over the holes but when a screw falls in then I can easily get it out with a magnetic screw driver. It takes years for the holes to fill up with dust, but when it reaches the top then you can suck it out by passing a vacuum hose of the holes. I had to do it once with my previous bench after 6 years of professional use, and only with the front holes.

Hello Jacob, I'm happy with the 741 and could see myself using this one for the rest of my life. Being able to plane wider is always a plus, but you have to draw a line somewhere. I adapt my designs to the capacity of the planer so it never stopped me from doing anything. I would have however liked the two speeds to be a bit slower and the pass limit of 4mm can be annoying, but again it's something you adapt your work flow to. And I just love the black/grey looks of the 700 series, for that alone I wouldn't want a blue 900, even for free. But that's not rational, if you do heavier work like stairs then go for 900.

On my previous similar bench I only had to pass over the holes with the shop vac hose once a year. That was sufficient to clean it out, while I initially thought I would have needed to remove the top layer. Thanks for the compliments!

A regular straight cutter from CMT, it has cutting edges on the bottom, so you can use it to make plunge cuts.

It's a matter of work flow and space. I couldn't actually fit a large planer in here without impeding on the work space of the other tools. And then I'm not sure that having to move your work pieces from one to the other is that much more practical then converting one tool. Converting literally takes less than 30 seconds and you can leave your work pieces and dc in place. I have also had and used many different types of morticing machines (square table top 2x, chain type or horizontal drill type, stand alone and attached to the jointer) but honestly the domino, especially the XL is so much faster and more accurate as a morticer than anything I have ever used. I used to build large gates and doors and the only possibility to make mortices on such huge parts was to bring the tool to the piece or do it by hand (which I had to before the XL was invented)

A screwdriver with magnetic tip will fish almost everything out, but honestly it almost never happens. I left a spot in the middle with no holes where I can do some assembly work.

The pants are from Engelbert Strauss, classic type. And the headset was a Howard Leigh so I could listen to the radio. I now use a different one Hellberg Synergy which has a bluetooth function, so I listen to videos while working. Strangely it keeps my mind busy and keeps it from wandering. Which keeps me concentrated and safe.

To drill the 32mm holes? It's a 5mm "shelf pin bit" that came with the LR32set, it has a point in the centre.

Oh those were done with a simple straight 20mm cutter, the basic model (cmt in my case) Just make sure it's designed for plunge cuts (has a sharp edge below)

On peut l'aspirer par les trous, mais d'expérience il faut au moins 3-4 ans d'usage journalier pour en arriver la. On peut aussi dévisser le plateau.

Hi John, it depends on where you are located. In the US I think the incra model is compatible, but if you search for "festool compatible T-track" then you will find links. In Europe Sautershop.de or Rutlands.uk are good online sources.

It's Briançon, it sets in about 20 minutes, open time varies on the wood type but I'd day 3-4 minutes.

Cant answere for him, but i can give you some advice any german fulltime woodworker would tell you: Festool is one of our (germany) export brands targeted at people who have to much money and are prone to brand recognition and design over function, or generally believe the most expensive and prettiest is naturely the best. A good example is Festools Kapex Miter Saw, it looks nice and has some neat features like the quick clamp and angle turning, but its handle and switch design is an awful design over function style that just feels unnatural to use. I know someone who bought it and hated exactly that handle design, which made him sell it just weeks after buying it. Pretty much the only Festool tool id say is really worth the money, is the Domino, havnt found a better one yet. For everything else: Bosch Pro (Thats the blue Boschs), Makita and Metabo would be my advice depending on the tool in question. Like say Grinder = Makita or Metabo, Cordless Drill = Bosch Pro, SDS Drill = Metabo. Every manufacturer does something better than the other imho.

I completely disagree. Festool is worth every penny.

@ Glass impressions, Taking into account that my shop is full of them and that I use them professionally, I only had to replace the engine on my kapex which is a used 10 yr old model that came from a stair factory, and I had a gear break in my CXS drill which was replaced. But right now it's been 3 years since I had any problems. I built my shop and work flow around their system, that alone makes it worth for me, a tool that doesn't come in a systainer and has an attached cord just doesn't fit in my shop.

@ FullMetalFox, I'm not going to get mad with you since I was thinking and speaking exactly as you did before having any festools ;) I used to hate them for those reasons until I actually used them in a 2 year course, it was painfully obvious that they were a class higher than the Bosch pro tools I had at the time. Bosch didn't have the L-boxx at the time so I had a stack of giant cases, all in different sizes and very poorly designed. I had cords and hoses everywhere in my shop getting tangled or tripped... Now with systainers and detachable cords my shop is much better organised, no more cables and tools everywhere. So at this point I don't care about price, which is the main advantage of the other brands, I work in my shop 12 hours a day so I want that time to be hassle free. They have some duds in their line but the Kapex is absolutely not one of them, having the handle in line with the blade is function over style, it gives more accurate cuts. Whereas the usual handle on the right of the blade tends to rack the head while pushing down. Your friend was likely used to that so the Kapex felt weird, but you just have to adapt, I honestly never even thought that was a problem at all.

@ Timothy Wilmots Well thanks for not being mad, thats just what most german full time workers think about Festool, which is propably the reason why the Brand failed in its own country but worked as an export. Exceptions are the things Festool began with, precission accessories for table based machines, but they've cut back on developing these. I guess your personal preferences and priorities in a tool are just in line with one of Festools target values, in that case im happy that there is a brand that offered exactly what you liked. I for example dont care for any System Boxes and im used to cords hanging from the ceiling from my days in the metall industry, but i do care about price vs performance, durability, and industry norm fittings and sizes above transport solutions and/or cords. And yes, a cheap miter saw with only a single points joint can mess up its blade angle due to the side mounted handles, ive seen that on some Einhell and other Made in China machines, but never noticed it on my medium price range Metabo Miter Saw or Bosch GCM12GDL, the tollerances are so small that even my machinist angle measure could not detect anything above 0,05° when i calibrated the saws, and that was propaby the woods own grain messing up the measurement. And i personally hated the Kapex's handle too, i tried it at his place, but i liked the angle knob and quick clamp. So id still advice people to go out there and pick stuff based on what they need and prefer, try handling it at a shop display or buddies place, and not just order without never holding the tool in your hands first, and not to focus on just one brand due to seeing it on youtube or brand recognition. But thats just my different opinion on tools :)

It does, but it's rubbish. It's just there because of a legal obligation but it's just impossible to use.
