Aron, you are an astonishing man. I am 56 and I learned about the Jaw harp only 9 days ago watching Olena UUTAi, I was hooked! I watch this video and you would be so torn to see my design activities of the last nine days, trying to replicate the sound with a 3D printed creation with the resources of today's world. You started from sound on the radio and maybe some description. I started with video, google search engine, well practiced OPENSCAD 3D design experiments on maths art vases, hydrofoils, work and home gadgets and nick-naks and with 4 3D printers. My first design was rubbish but in experimenting, I eventually found how to resonate it with my mouth. I did 3 more designs that were only small improvements, I saw more jaw harp performances including your son's, who I see his playful caring side bubbling under the surface. I looked for other designs and printed a simple Dan-MOI, the sound was good, much better than mine. I bought 2 different kinds of metal jaw harps from a local shop, the Snoopy harp was horrid, poorly made, bad even after adjusting the gaps. The Maultrommel was better, similar to the Dan Moi but a different sound. I decided the energy storage of the Dan Moi 3D printed design was very poor so I started again, this was from Tuesday evening to Friday evening. I made a special 3D printed spring design, experimented with it's thickness, moved weight distributions, adjusted clearances and swing lengths. The sound improved again. From that Friday to this Friday, I have bags of 3D printed Jaw harps and with improvements and test prints every day until today, I now have 10 of my new favorite, sensitive, responsive, low pitch but not too low, and today for the very first time I learned the deep resonation, to poise my throat as if to be sick while playing and I heard the deep echo. I thought I would loose the memory of how to do it and have to search again for it, but now it is already a part of my playing and I have to work to un-remember it. I am in love with my little PETg printed creations, but I have you to thank for that journey's start and I share much of your philosophy, though I would in many instances swap out spirituality for eclectic science explanations, such as evolved abilities of our mitochondria symbionts that we so poorly appreciate, I believe they are the caretakers of our human operating systems and that as they are responsible to us, in our ignorance, we forget that we are responsible for our symbionts as well. I hope the smoking has not taken you since this video, for you are one of those rare individuals who contribute to human's identity and pride in our species. Thank you for expanding this instrument which does not even need a trained musician to make beautiful music, it is in our evolved cultural heritage, our DNA, a universal understanding and appreciation of the art which can be created through deep expressivity.
