No bad arts just bad practitioners...comments trashing a martial art because you may not understand how to apply it is a sign of the ignorance of the commentator...tai chi is probably not the most practical unarmed self defense for modern times as it was created as an answer for fighting styles of its day in history but that certainly doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hold concepts and maybe even specific techniques that can be useful today...I believe thereby is a Shaolin monk whipping ass in the MMA world....tell him his art is useless

@@monsterkingadversity6662 While I agree, this video is just as bad in the opposite direction. How does Tai Chi stack up against Boxing? Tai Chi vs Boxing Tai Chi is the ultimate martial art. This sounds like someone out to prove something not training and it immediately gives false impressions. Also, while it is commonly accepted that “no right move” truly exists (I.e you have to move as you would in that situation, being natural is key and there is always options) some moves are better, easier or more efficient then others. A lot of movements in Tai Chi would (for a majority of people) be stripped away in favour of more direct and forceful moves or styles. It’s also key to note that many such “ancient styles” have replaced an overwhelming amount of sparring with rote learning and essentially shadow boxing. Those styles were effective mostly because the user was honed and improved through copious amounts of sparring.

Usually when people train in martial arts they tend to not hit hard, mostly because you aim to vital spots and whatnot so it would have a big effect (the human body is designed pretty badly) But sometimes they train hitting pretty hard so defence is quite useful (I trained in karate for quite a while and we didn't really hit, except when it was time to actually test the things out and that was a great way to learn defensive moves)

For all those that laugh at these beginner explanations, it might be interesting to know that Tai chi was originally only taught to those who had mastered all the other levels of kung fu. It wasn't taught to the public. It was the most advanced form of kung Fu. That slap to the solar plexus is nasty enough, but if he misses it can break a rib. And the opponent has to setup all over again. Also, beginners take much more shallow steps. Only the most advanced take deep steps and elongated forms. And btw, he did mention fast twitch muscle use, which needs to specifically developed intentionally. Most people will not get there. Especially if a little older. But even those only interested in the health aspect of tai chi will develop muscle memory and if put into a situation ... That will kick in and they will gate much better. You may, or may not recall that lateral movement in Olympic boxing was brought to the ring by the American boxing team in the 1980s , and they dominated.

Partially incorrect, however I appreciate you not insulting our culture like everyone else. This 'teacher' isn't very good. However to his defense, he wasn't taught properly. @perrypelican9476
@perrypelican9476 2 роки тому
@@workmailcom2442 those tai chi masters are not the real thing. They are people who have dojos who never had a real fight in their lives. The kind of tai chi effective for fighting is called tai chi chuan. It is an internal martial art that takes a lot of serious training to be useful in a fight. It is usually nit used on its own but to enhance. It is foolish to judge a martial art based n youtube videos only. If you really want to know you have to do so some research. You do know that most online content is not accurate at best. Just because something is online does not make it useful or true. Any idiot can post online stuff.

I´m 50 years old, so potentially no match for young fighters. Still doing Boxing and Kickboxing, had some 50 fights in the 90s and some 1000s sparring rounds with or against fighters from any kind of style. Even with beginners i never saw a boxer throwing one straight left, leaving enough time and space to use a technique like shown in the video. It is obvious that any! fighter would adopt a superior system - but nobody in MMA-professional-fighting is using it, for the simple that it doesn´t work. It´s pretty hard to fight skilled Boxers even when you are a good (low)kicker, their punching-frequency and footwork is impressive and has proven it worth. I´ve never found a single video on YT showing a real fight in which this slapping and pushing works fine - so it will be hard to convince me.

I think Tai Chi is really supposed to look more like boxing... like this guy (fast forward over the BS at the beginning). You can check out other videos of his students training, and it just looks like a boxing gym-- to me, the "tai chi" aspect is just the focus of training, staying loose to be quick, and then, adding in training what to do when the gloves are touching, tricks to move the opponents hands away, or control the hands and set up the knock out. But nobody in America practices it that way... ukposts.info/have/v-deo/iHqCp22AoKh8k6M.html

Cool sidestep. I'm sure you'd have pulled it off equally well if it wasn't slow motion. Must be a true master to understand there is no need to keep your guard up with the other hand, boxers never throw combos and that flaccid wrist slap would break anyone's ribs and incapacitate them. It's a complete mystery why we never see Tia chi masters winning MMA tournaments. Be careful trying this on the street boys and girls, don't want to accidental kill someone by releasing too much chi!

I'm not one to bash another style because anyone with exceptional skill and understanding can make any style work but on this video. A jab in boxing is used to distract or set up another blow or movement. A professional boxers jab like Ali's would not be able to slip like this without being caught by another left hook or straight right of uppercut. Normally slipping a jab could be dangerous as the boxer could be setting you up for a hard blow.

Once you can achieve his patience ,endurance, focus, self control, and undertake true Shaolin training, then, and only then would I concern myself about your opinions of this man or any Martial Artist. I've been practicing shotokan karate in the 80's, Aikido in 80's, then thai and kick boxing, in qi gong since the 90's. I have much respect for tai chi, but a person who practices tai chi and fight with a boxer, will just get destroyed. Tai chi is a form of qi gong. tai chi has some martial roots in it, but in no way gives any capacity to any person to fight boxers. You live in an illusion if you believe the contrary. tai chi could be a complementary practice for a fighter who already is in thai boxing, or boxing, or full contact martial art. tai chi would give you better balance and better understanding of movements, but if you practice tai chi , even for 10 years, and you think you can fight a boxer with it, you are totally in an illusive world. same applies with most wu shu technic and aikido. Practicing tai chi does not prepare your body to get hit, does not teach you how to strike punches, knees elbow and kicks ... through the angle of real fight and self defense, tai chi is just a system of pointless fancy movements for people who live in a dream ... and you could almost say the same thing with most of aikido and kung fu movements, which does not teach you how to kick and punch, and only require that you grabb opponent arms at very precise moments and spots to be effective, which hapen in fancy training but never in real street combat situation or on a ring. Of course it looks good on videos or in movies; indeed practice tai chi for meditation, breathing, get better health, get bette immune system, get in harmony with the universe and follow the law of tao, but avoid it if you think you can fight just with it cause you will get wrecked...consequently this video is total utter bullshit .. ...namaste

+astralseeker Forget what people do Taijiquan for, forget about goofballs like Jake the Fake, forget about old people dancing on a beach. Taijiquan is a fighting art. Health benefits are a plus. Qi gong to Taijiquan is like push ups and crunches to a boxer. Would you watch a boxer doing push ups and say that's not going to work in a fight? You don't practice Taijiquan for meditation. You meditate, and to be accurate you don't meditate, you simply sit, or stand but that's another post, to improve your skills by quieting the mind. Watch the films of Ali in his prime. His speed comes from his stillness. A simple concept difficult to practice. As far as accuracy and precise timing for effectiveness, well you just described boxing, so I get the impression you don't really know what you're talking about here, though I agree with you 100% about this vid being utter bullshit. It is.

Real tai chi is for warfare and lethal compared to basic western boxer. They develop everything for fighting, again nothing like this video. If you haven't trained with a legit master (preferably Chen style) you won't have any idea what I'm talking about and think it's just yoga and meditation. But for those who know, they know it well. Fighting Taiji requires a lot of practice and lots of practical, full contact with realistic speed and strength. Therefore, you need a very strong, fast and agile body to be able to use Taiji in a real fight. You also need a good eye and strong self-confidence to deal properly with an escalating situation. For these reasons, it is easier to learn Taiji for health only. And just aside, what this gentleman prefers here is no taiji and only harms people.

Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace Im not sure what to say but since the video features a tai chi fighter vs a boxer, sure i can see this technique as viable because boxers dont use elbows, on the other hand i dont know how Jake Mace would react using this technique against a fighter of a different style. In Jujutsu (Samurai martial art) and Ninjutsu (Ninja martial art) i would use the basic step/dodge but i would make sure that my opponent wouldn't be able to use his arm again (yes that means break it) using my elbow against his elbow while my left arm pushed his wrist, i dont know if i described it well, sorry about that xD. Tai chi is a martial discipline and when practiced correctly can create exceptional energy (chi ) that is centred around the lower belly. The movement builds strength, speed and heightens ones ability to read the telegraphing of an enemy’s attacks. You learn how to create space and readiness when being harassed. But the readiness has to be kept very inconspicuous until the very last moment! Be careful not to antagonise with a flash stance, as it can make a bad situation worse! Be humble and loose, but crack like a whip when needs be. Pacifying is the best form of Defence. Tai chi is taught by many people but its true essence is not. Never compare one discipline against another, but compare the disciplined against the none!

He demonstrated two things. A slip followed by a counter and fast twitch muscle training to increase the effectiveness of the counter. This is then compared to boxing. Which also has slips/counters/ and fast twitch muscle training. The key take away is martial arts is composed of combat and art. If you breakdown the art you will be able to see the combative application. Though not all people choose to practice the combative nature of the martial "art" it's still there. Boxing is a sport. It is comprised of special rules such as safety gear (boxing gloves), a ring, rules, and timed bouts. The only way to "beat" a boxer is to be a better boxer than the boxer you are fighting. It's like comparing basketball vs football... they're different they shouldn't be compared at face value. Finally if you just so happened to find yourself in a street fight with a boxer remember boxing is a sport. Street fights comprise of no rules, weapons, the environment, foul play, unfair match ups, and potentially multiple enemies. You could be the best boxer, tai chi dude, mma fighter, etc. At the end of the day a street fight is a street fight. Only the people who understand there are no rules and are willing to do anything to survive will come out on top.

TaiChi would dominate a lot of pro boxers today. But only the people who practice TaiChi for its main purpose can do this. Someone who practices taichi with the intent to fight with it, might not be the best taichi fighter. But someone who practices TaiChi for flow, with the primary task at hand is flow and well-being, and view fighting as something that's not primary could dominate. These people practice mainly for the flow, but also learn how to use taichi in different scenarios. And muscle isnt necessarily needed to engage in a pro boxer, if you're a master at taichi. If you aren't a master at it, and you still dont grasp the whole concept and how to apply it to fights, then you might need muscle. TaiChi is powerful my friend, much more powerful that what you think😌

Most real tai chi guys will say that tai chi is about health and wellness, not necessarily fighting. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be used for fighting. You can’t say that tai chi would never work because there are some legit tai chi guys that fight in sanda matches often and use striking and grappling effectively. Pull the sparrow by the tail and part the horses mane are basic tai chi movements and are basically a pull down and throw. Cutetiger there are plenty of guys who have dabbled in tai chi that fight in MMA, and some traditionalists that can use their art to full effect. Not discounting bjj, boxing, wrestling, and Muay Thai of course, but taiji is good for us older guys who want an interesting workout that won’t hurt us. You young guns can have all that other stuff.

Because good boxers have among the best judgment of distance,speed and power in their hands. They retract their hands as fast as they fire their shots. These techniques are ineffective against a boxer. I have sparred with good boxers and belive me,i know.

Juaquin Trumpet You’re thinking of bobbing and weaving. The point of B&W is to get out of the way of the strikes without lining yourself up for another which is why boxers often go down, not laterally. If the opponent knows you’re gonna “slip” inside, they can bait you with a flinch then spin your jaw around the back of your head.
@juaquintrumpet3281
@juaquintrumpet3281 3 роки тому
@@aliteralflamingpileofgarba6236 i dont know about a flinch, but boxes call it a faint if thats what you mean. i didnt mean slip inside. i just meant slipping punches. you can slip laterally or utilize angles to get to the side of your opponent and then counter off their punches thrown, and yes thats why my coach always says to fake to one side then go the other way. Ive gotten caught many times cause I became predictable going the same way all the time

Someone who practices tai chi without the intent to harm, and has lived their life through taichi could ultimately humiliate a lot of boxers. Tai chi isnt used for offense, its used for the flow of yourself. And if you practice TaiChi for yourself for years and years, you could humiliate a boxer. Not by attacking him, but by using his own movements against him and defeating him that way. Taichi is for flow of oneself and to become more attuned with yourself. Someone who practices taichi only uses it to fight when ultimately necessary and they mostly use it for defense and not offense

The main thing that concerns me about this video, is that a boxers jab comes back very quick and gives time for repositioning and defence. I'd think for it to be more effective against a jab, you'd have to slip and strike at the same time. It would have also been nice to get some input from the boxer about the techniques.

I think he means well. It's a difficult martial art and the people who really understand the sweet stuff don't like to share. And yet, this stuff here isn't tai chi. It's too stiff. None of the six harmonies must-haves are present. It may be effective. It's hard to tell from the video and demonstration stuff. But it's not tai chi. Then again, most people in the US don't know any better and the Chens are notoriously free about handing out duan ranks of you're willing to pay. It's what keeps their village fed, so I can't really blame them.

Uzzi-EL there is a reason why tai chi is only useful if you want to get in good shape, it can be a good workout but will not be useful in an actual fight, it's just not that practical, if he wanted to prove his point he would do an actual sparring match to test it's effectiveness, this is almost like watching an aikedo demonstration, sure it might look useful but in an actual situation where you need to defend yourself against a boxer or mauy Thai fighter your kind of fucked, don't practice Tai chi with the intention of learning self defense, that's what mauy Thai or boxing is good for and it's a good workout as well.

It's stagnant drills like this that makes a lot of traditional martial arts useless in a real fight. It's all an illusion. If you really want to test a technique, you need to make sure the guy punching you is really trying to punch you😀 It's not about the system you're training in per se, rather it's about your methodology of training.

Jake . . I trained in traditional Shotokan / Aikido / Ninpo tai-jutsu since I was 13, hustled 4 different p/t thru HS, rode my bicycle thru rain, sleet or snow to HS, home to prep dinners I NEVER got to eat, then off the the dojo, THEN work afterwards until 11 or midnight, thru rain, sleet or snow & got thru HS on 4-5 hours sleep per night. OK, summer was more hours worked & a bit more sleep, but I had to pay for class-tuition, uniforms, tests, weapons, food, dental, medical, contacts, guitar lessons, clothing and bike tires 3+x yearly. My HS prom night, I taught / assisted the tail-end of a 90 minute children's class (my warm up), did the 90 minute 6pm class, then rode off to 7-11 to work until 1am, turning down beer sales to my HS classmates. Long Island winter snowstorms were RARE: NOT to have a good 2-footer at least once, and I showed up for a 6pm adult class on my 10-speed during a 2-footer, ZERO adults showed in their cars & I got a "private lesson" with my sensei, then he took me out for dinner afterwards . . At 16 y/old. as a brown belt, I taught adult classes with several black belts as "students", when my sensei got caught up in traffic, picking up his classmates from the airport. So, I guess you can say, I've "been around the block", a few times. WHAT you did to this beginner VICTIM: June 14, 2017, (student is a real stretch, because UNLESS he is your brother-in-law & he'll be "back for more freebies", I'd be SHOCKED to see this guy return for more humiliation & exploitation from you), was NOTHING short of mocking his lack of stamina / fitness and self aggrandizing your innate athletic ability. Because: THAT is ALL you did, in this video. Which is KIND of like a sociopath. Gee, did you "set the stage" by suggesting he down a hefty breakfast, before you did a 40+ minute abdominal-crush routine on him?? Do YOU have any recollection of your first weeks or month of training?? Do you give ANY thought to a moderate warm-up, progressing into a feel-out-your-student's agility, before jumping into a stress test? I saw an EASY dozen opportunities for YOU to suggest / correct his breathing patterns, where YOU clearly exhaled during an exertion, then smirked & smiled as he held his breath during each kick, punch or torsional twist . . And that sociopathic SMIRK got even bigger, when he paused to hold down his vomit. And you showed complete INDIFFERENCE when he BEGAN to puke. Even a gay-boy-lover would hold his head while vomiting, after he'd mouth raped his throat. But YOU, Jake . . you made him VOMIT, then gloated & titled the video how "he wanted to fight . . I made him vomit". Class fucking act. You know what they say?? "Those that CAN fight, DO". I walked away from 3X 3-on-1 fights before I was 11, BEFORE I could start working to pay for Budo instruction, 6 nights weekly. "Those that CAN'T fight, teach" . . which is a REAL stretch in YOUR case, since IF you were a half-assed DECENT sifu, you'd have 1 or more successful schools, and a few hundred loyal students. But INSTEAD . . You flash your psychopath colors & post videos of how athletic you are, and crush any/all potential beginner-students, by monetizing their 1st day attempts. NOTE: I said you ARE athletic . . . but attributing any martial SKILL SETS to you would be a REAL fucking stretch. Master Ken's Private Parts offers BETTER instruction on YT, than you. I'd have wiped your snot off the mats, when I was 15 as a purple belt. Try speeding up your video feeds, it'll make you appear more . . ade
