Real music played by real musicians. I had the honor of doing sound for Taj three times, and I've always been a fan of Ry Cooder since his first solo releases and his contributions to the Performance soundtrack. I also owe him a big "thank you" for his efforts in bringing Buena Vista Social Club to the rest of the world. These are world class people with few peers.

This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm having a rough morning. Music is so healing and Taj is a master. I consider Taj Mahal a Musical Shaman. And Ry Cooder is one of the icon's of American music in the lane of Woody Guthrie. Sincere thanks to both and the band. What a BLESSING!

Taj and Ry both great slide players were in band called the Rising Sons around 1965. And Ry played with distinction on Taj's early records. Both are deep musicians. The whole band is having fun on this tune. Taj's early version was Duane Allman's intro to slide, and we know where that went ;)

When I first came across this video on UKposts, the only reason I watched it "was" because I recognized Don Was on bass. I just wanted to see what he was up to. Then, when the video finished I was sitting in our family room with misty eyes, and said out loud just what POSROCKNROLL said just below - "It just doesn't get any better than that." If you don't love this music, you got no soul!

Today I went to the to the dedication of the William Samuel "Blind Willie" Mctell statue here in Statesboro. Mr. McTell originally wrote the song, in Ragtime, in 1928. Mr. McTell went from the 6-string to 12-string guitar that he played for most of his career. Taj Mahal covered Statesboro Blues in his 1968 debut album and gave it a version that was significantly different than originally written. In 1971 The Allman Bros. Band released their version of Statesboro Blues, and the rest is history, as they say. May I suggest anyone that is even casually interested, come to our very small town, take a stroll down the Statesboro Blue Mile in the Georgia's Low Country for a great look into a fascinating look at history. Mr. Mctell was inducted into The Blues Hall of Fame in 1981.

I don't know Pete, you go inviting everybody and some damn liberal will come and say the statue isn't sufficient enough for the contribution from the black artist or some damn crap like that...and make you folks take it down. I drove from Atlanta to Macon and Savannah after the 2007 Final Four and stopped at a gas station in Statesboro, with the Allman version blasting on the CD player. Nobody noticed. I wish someone had, for I might have learned something about the history you've provided, Pete. Thanks. In Macon, I met Chris Patterson in the Rose Hill Cemetery and he showed me the graves of Duane and Berry and the statue of Little Martha... Chris is on UKposts at a Gregg tribute the day of the funeral. He's a great local player. And I'm a goddam liberal who thinks boomer ain't got no soul... putting dumb politics up here.

Guaranteed, none of those African American kids had any idea who this guy was, as they dragged their bottoms into the auditorium. The rest of us were relegated to the other side of the room. Within a few numbers, the most amazing shamanistic transformation occured...only in the American South, due to the decades old tradition of Gospel/call-and-response. These kids were not only hooked by his musical, one-man virtuosity, but they were also hip, calling out, vocally answering & responding to the risque double entendre of the lyrics‼️ 🇨🇦

Taj and Ry. Damn, American authentic, as you can get. Wow. I love Duane's version but wow this just blows my mind. It just doesn't get any better than Taj and Ry. I have been blessed and was lucky, I got to see Taj Mahal and I got to see the Allmans Brothers. The original. Thank you dear lord. Thank you. And the Grateful dead and Frank Zappa. Wow. What a ride.

Though my all time favorite is ABB's Fillmore rendition this is a beautiful country blues version spreading the joy that the musicians had (look at Ry at 1:25 singing along and rockin' his chair)!
