Most people find they hated the teachers of the subjects they hated. So how often were we repelled from a subject because the teacher repelled us? This is perhaps why online teaching is much better in some ways: You can choose the teacher (in a good system). Some people just rub us the wrong way. Its hard to counteract. And a student shouldn't have to. Their education is just so much more important. Never let personality interfere with your learning. Life is too short for that and we have a lot of problems to solve.

I stopped listening to my teachers this year. It was the best idea I had. I have rules tho to get a great knowledge on your own: be passionate/curious in everything that can help you achieve your rational but still idealistic goal, work everyday but not a lot of hours just a few like 2 or 3 hours then stop and practice what you learnt some days later. And finally listen only to certified people not those dummies that give their opinion, just the facts. For example, i stopped maths last year because i thought it was boring but now that I have a goal it is all different. I was not passionate about it maybe because my teachers were cold hearted and only cared about the pay check. It is an hobbie now to learn maths, i learn more efficiently and faster because i don't have strict rules to follow and i found good resources that are interesting. Plus stop toxic habits like eating fast food, a lot of sugar... Do some sports, go to sleep early, stop going out with superficial people. Those easy things can really change your life on the long term. It's a good investment. Do not fall for the easy traps of pleasure and the environment around you.

Absolutely agree. During highschool I absolutely hated my anatomy and physiology classes, mainly blaming it on my general dislike of memorisation heavy subjects. I ended up studying medicine and excelling in said classes, developing a deep passion for understanding the ins and outs of the human body only then did I realize the difference in my professors. My highschool professor would sit and just read from the book, showing up late to class and for the most part refusing to answer questions, she wouldn't address us or even notice if someone was missing from class and during exams you could easily pull out your phone and cheat. My university professor stressed the importance of knowing anatomy and physiology, she gave us the reasons for knowing it and how valuable it will be not only during other subjects in our course but once we enter the world as physicians and take care of our patients. Every time she would show up for class you could see that she fully believed what she said and was willing to push us to see it with the same passion.

I hated anything math related back in hs and there was this month wherein our professor was temporarily changed nd in that month, no, in the first 2 days that the sub prof came in i realized that math was actually fun & i looked forward to it everyday. Profs do matter. I excelled in Sci back in hs but on my last year science was my lowest subject simply because the prof wasnt as good as tbe one who taught me throughout hs. just sharing. :D

And I have promised myself that I am going to be one of those professors. Just 3 more years of waiting and working.

We called these business case Studies. In my classes the students did most of the talking which in my opinion is the idea because it brings out their creativity. The professor joined then every now and then when he thought it was necessary. I learned a lot from this course. The subject matter provided its own energy.

For sustainability it would be an advantage. Usually, people think too much on the short term. Business education is often too much short term thinking.

@@nanashipersonne4151 So you're sayin' it's all about the sustainability of profit? And any heart stuff is a means to an end? You're trying to kill two birds with one stone. Might work, but more likely one needs prioritizing over the other as they're inherently in conflict. That means policy needs to flexibly fit the situation. How is that possible if the policy is written from above? Should the workers make policy? Standard procedure would continue operations while someone investigated. Better would stop the operation and have the CEO fly down with her own interpreter to interview workers to find the problem and solution. Can't use a local interpreter as the workers would not trust them. I'd guess the CEO would learn all about everything allowing her to elevate safety, satisfaction, and profit. Would get to know the people too; every CEO should know the people underlying her operation.

Same. Introvert doesnt equal shy. For me it just means I get exhausted from social interaction a bit faster than someone who's extroverted, especially if it's shallow, although i love it sometimes. But I thrive in constructive discussions like this

@Latrease Leah I graduated from UC Berkeley and took some classes at Stanford…best teacher I had was at a community college. My mom was a professor at Cal State Long Beach who received her PhD from Vassar. She was a lot like this professor…simply passionate about the subject with an actual love for teaching. Good professors like this can be found at every level of education. Many believe it’s the brand name of the university. Not true. The higher the university the more those professors usually have to publish and do research if on a tenure track, leaving less time for students.

I took local community college and had some passionate educators. They got me motivated to keep going

My favorite all-time teacher was at San Francisco State. I'm sure most people don't even know that's a school, but it's one of the better communications universities in the Bay Area. He loved teaching and the biggest part of his class was making sure he was engaging with us and we were engaging with each other. He probably taught at max half the class every time, the rest of the time was conversations. Best two classes I ever took, also the two hardest classes I ever took lol.

@Latrease Leah yea that is exactly what ivy league schools want people to believe, because that is how they justify the high tuition bill. It simply isn't true. I mean I don't know about at the community college level but I do know for a fact there are amazing university professors who are not in the ivy league that are more effective than many of their ivy league counterparts.

My ib history teacher is the exact opposite. Minimal conversation, and many PowerPoint slides

My high-school teacher was like that and unfortunately she left for retirement last year, right as I entered my senior year at the age of 81. I now plan to study History after my gap year all because of that wonderful woman.

agreed. The guy who wanted to do the review was pushed into a "decision" for show. Vs getting to any detail about the fatality. Pretty quick analysis can determine if there's a systemic factor at play, be it culture, equipment maintenance, training, that necessitate a safety stand down - or if it's pretty clearly a one off that has more of a nudge solution to prevent in future.

Temporarily shut down or permanently shut down? Because I feel like if I was in that position, I'd temporary shut down the operation to do some investigations, it could be the site, it could be the equipment, etc and then proceed upon the result of the investigation before resuming the operation.

I don't understand how people blame and insist that the teachers are driving the social atmosphere, this problem legitimately resides on the students shoulders, the engagement usually depends on the students interest in the subject.

This is grad school not elementary school. You go to this to learn how to manage groups of people - if you are not expressive, introverted to the point of not being able to participate in a conversation you are not ready to lead anyone. People will be coming to you for solutions right or wrong you have to think quick and make a choice. If you spend your time getting anxious about having to speak in front of folks who might disagree with you. Not sure what to tell you but you won't be running a good business or managing people well.

And I’m guessing here, but I think what you’re pointing out is not having doctors and professors teaching elementary subjects, but rather instilling a culture in the classroom of vulnerability, authentic engagement, comfort with failing and doing so with intention. That is something all grades desperately need.

The reason why she is a good teacher is because the students are paying so much money to be in her class they paid at least $25,000 to be at this college, so of course she's going to be a good teacher, after all you get what you pay for.

I agree. If the students are interactive enough, the teacher can maintain this sort of atmosphere where students are pushed through the limits and made to think about different possibilities of a situation. This makes students smarter and helps them grow personally and professionally.

Totally enabled by the teacher. I was an introvert and wouldn't say a word in class until I met a teacher who encouraged me to. Now, I always look forward to contributing not minding the vulnerability. 100% on the teacher.

@@iamrising7176 Yes, enabling is definitely needed for this environment and there will always be students like you who are willing to open up to that enabling. But from a teacher's perspective, just like how students find different kinds of teachers, they also find that different classes have different collective nature. It will just depend on what mindset most of the students have. Some students are receptive while some are not, and in college level it's extremely difficult to give enough individuals attention to each student and employ what they are receptive towards. For a teacher, every class is different.

I too have a social anxiety, but sometimes with some people and certain topic I have fun engaging.. but not most of the time tho 🤣

I have so many opinions I want to share but I get too anxious talking in front of the class, perks of online schooling is I can use the chat and I don't see other people's face and they don't get to see mine if I don't want to show it. My teachers have the choice either they see my face but don't hear me talk or I don't show my face and I make the class 10 times more interesting for everyone

Bruh, I paid $650 USD+ on a degree each month and still find some lecturer absent in class, not even mention that I can't even access the internet properly when my degree is in computer engineering.

It’s still just business school and not rocket science as they say. Apparently some people in the class still aren’t smart enough to pick the obvious answer the SJW professor was looking for. Fall in line with your professor’s ideology and preserve your GPA, especially when being judged on an opinion as opposed to true or false.

Academics is one of the many factors taken into consideration for acceptance into Ivy leagues, you need to have a bunch load of extra curricular achievements to even be considered.

Harvard doesn't have this type of learning everyday. It's a promotional video designed to engage with the viewer. I guarantee that most of the other MBA courses aren't this exciting to watch. A lot of work in everyday life is boring, but you still have to put in the time and effort to do it. You need to find something interesting about it. This is probably why most people don't want to go to class. You can't sit around and expect it to be as fun as a promotional UKposts video like this. If you're better prepared for class and read the assigned reading or did the work before hand, you would probably find it more exciting that day. Most people don't do this.
