The problem is that SCOTUS could have just said "no" to absolute immunity months ago. It doesn't seem reasonable that ANY of the charges in the DC case will be subject to immunity. If SCOTUS just wanted an academic exercise to define the boundaries of presidential immunity, it could have been done WITHOUT delaying the DC trial.

It’s not. It’s hegemony is dying, you are now living in a multipolar world, you are $34trn in debt, on the league tables you are falling behind on nearly every important metric including health, education, even your life expectancy is dropping. It’s time your government focus on the problems of America and stop creating wars elsewhere.

A nation's Supreme Court must be completely impartial and reflect the overall aspirations and general will of the majority of that nation's people and not the will and aspirations of those who appointed them to their position! Also, Here in Australia, judges and magistrates are not political appointees and must retire at age 70...

Even if one were to accept that the Supreme Court perhaps a duty to establish the boundaries under which a president might have some immunity how they can feel comfortable with letting the election happen before the public gets to hear evidence and know whether Trump is either innocent or guilty of trying to subvert our democracy is beyond me! Send the Trump case back to trial and write your fancy opinions without delaying the Jan 6th case any further!

it wasn’t that convoluted. Civil suits are one thing, but when it comes to criminal liabilities, no one in our United States, is above the law. Regardless of power or position, responsible citizens act in accordance with the laws.

There is no case to have in front of a court of law! The constitution states that all people of the United States are created equal and are to be treated as equals according to the constitution that that governs the nation and its citizens! If the law provides complete immunity only to the citizens that are elected president then there would not be any restrictions to the ability to hold the office of president. Because the majority elected person that gains the presidency would not be able to be held to the legal authority and standards that govern our nation and the people. The constitution and the laws are the most restrictive reason for our constant inadequacy to properly govern the country in a functioning and adequate way to achieve the social conditions that are the current state of our democracy. The constitution has been altered in the past addressing several new amendments. Though most of the amendments have benefited the corporate interests and the people are not being provided with the same ability to be the authority of the nation allowing the government and corporate interests the power to overturn the laws that we have fought for to protect us. The government and judiciary are playing with fire by holding the people from being able to control the laws that are the basis for the criminal and civil codes. The supreme courts want to make the constitution the ultimate guide for the law and order of America. The problem is that if that is the standard for laws being enforced and broken then every law that congress has imposed on the people are not legally enforceable by any law enforcement agency or the Supreme Court itself because they didn’t exist in our country for a very long time!

The Federalist Papers make specific reference to criminal prosecution of a president as an individual. Why is convicted by the Senate a requirement? There does not seem to be a wader process of senators to challenge/weed out a jurors' bias? And how can this even work when there were no federal political parties when the originally adopted constitution was written?

Why not establish a ruling where every current and future president is subject to criminal prosecution, while providing immunity to every former president? That way Trump gets complete and total lifetime immunity while the current president and any future president (aside from Trump) can be prosecuted? It's a Win/Win/Win #MAGA

Clearly, US Presidents cannot be prosecuted for acting under the law, official actions/duties. In the extreme, President Truman couldn't be prosecuted for bombing Hiroshima and killing thousands of Japanese. In the opposite, a US President cannot order political opponents to be prosecuted or killed, unofficial actions. The question here is whether Trump's inciting the 1/6/21 insurrection/attack on the US Capitol disrupting the Constitutional process, causing severe damage, and injuring many was an official act. Clearly it was not, beyond any reasonable doubt.
