As a researcher, I loved her honesty about how research can't get you to feed three kids. Research is one of the lowest paying jobs in higher education (unless you are developing drugs to make big pharma profit). This occurs even if you are a top notch researcher. Plus, the world is in dire need for more research but researchers are not valued and funding is meager. It's sad to see how many brilliant minds have to abandon research. On the other hand, professions that make companies profit are abundant and valued despite not necessarily contributing to solving world's inequality or societal issues. People say: just find a job that is on demand, if you are doing a job that is not paying you well it's your fault not the economy's. However, most jobs that are saving the world are not high paying and people do them out of vocation. Those are the true heros for me.

What a wonderful point! Some people think vegetables come from the grocery store! They have no idea someone worked 24/7, no vacations etc to make sure vegetables are at the store. Thank you farmers and ranchers because if it were easy everyone would be doing it!

Thank you for the interview. I love her enthusiasm and joy for life. I also have gone through an abusive marriage. I never spoke about it for decades. I'm in my 75th year and no one believes my age, as I have the same philosophy of eat well and take care of yourself. I became a widow from a successful marriage just before 60 and am busy and successful with multiple businesses, nutrition, farming and real estate. My friends say write a book, but there are too many hurtful moments to relive. I love Maye's story.
