In this video I show how to set up two shelters from One pitch. Also I explain how the 1st shelter was too small for me, as my tarp was only a 3m x 3m. Use a 3.5m by 3.5m for better results on first shelter.
2nd shelter is much roomier, but requires an additional ground sheet. I used second setup on my Dismal Falls adventure.

I would like to see a separate video of the second pitch. It was hard to follow the conversion. Looks like a great pitch!

Thank you for your feedback! I will most definitely keep that in mind and will try to do another.😁 I do like that 2nd setup quite a bit.👍

Really appreciate seeing this video. I like that second pitch a lot and will be trying it with a DD Tarps 4x4. Also, I agree with you about preferring not to use the excess tarp material as a ground cloth (in planned pitch situations). Just increases wear and the likelihood of tearing or puncturing the fabric. So I’ve just started buying inexpensive footprints in various sized off Amazon. They’re lightweight , easy to pack, use and clean afterwards. Plus they actually serve as a secondary tarp or windbreak when needed. Great stuff here! Just subscribed.👍

Thanks so much! Wow that 4x4 will definitely make a very nice sized shelter. 👍Will have plenty of room, awesome! Very good idea with a footprint! That would help reduce a little pack weight and space even compared to cheap 5x7 foot tarp. 😁

The 1st setup is a great solution for a ground cloth involved. I have 2 3mx3x tarps and also 1 ground mat so i likely wouldn't use this but i like the idea of fully enclosed tarp shelters NOT involving a ground cloth. Either way tarp shelters with or without a ground cloth seem way more versatile and I am really digging em vs a traditional dome tent style with poles involved and overall weighing more. What you essentially made was a plow point shelter.

I agree ,much prefer the flexibility of the tarp rather than a tent. The 1st pitch would be better with a 3.5 m tarp, but the 3m is a little small for that pitch. This is a little different than the plow point pitch though. The plow poin t is one of my go to's. I will do a video on it soon. The 2nd pitch in this video definitely gives you plenty of extra space and I prefer to lay on a ground sheet. 😉 Check out my upcoming video, I show another fully enclosed pitch transformed from the classic A frame pitch!

by using a separate groundsheet it saves you getting wet if by chance the tarp does leak.instead of the water running where youre sleeping itll run down the wall and underneath you

Id like to see how these hold up in strong winds...
@AdventureswithMud
@AdventureswithMud 11 днів тому
I havent been through high winds with either pitch yet. I would say second pitch could be a little more aerodynamic. But both are pretty streamline and have a flat side that could be a problem. 🤔

Great vid. Do you think uf you lowered it a bit youd end up with more room? Less height though i guess
@AdventureswithMud
@AdventureswithMud 8 днів тому
Thank you. This pitch height is kinda determined by where the 2 corners meet when tying it up. Creating the two faces which could be the door/porch. Definitely agree it would drop the height for sitting in hiking chair. Would make that a bit tight. Maybe one day I'll get a 3.5 x 3.5 meter tarp. Then the first one would be roomy enough. 😊

@@AdventureswithMud tell me about it. I have to invest in a 4x4 now as I've got to bring two dogs along on my adventures now haha

No criticism towards you but i have never understood the hype of the “one tarp” shelter concept. Either so much material gets wasted in folds (thus requiring an oversized tarp) or you end up with the three sided pyramid by dividing the square or rectangular tarp into four triangles. I go out into the field with a homemade (custom made) kit that is based upon the tried and true army shelter half kit. This is based on the concept of using sections that are hexagons with two elongated sides ….. or to better describe it each section is a rectangle with a triangle added to the two short edges. With one section i can make either a windscreen shelter with protective side walls to protect against wind shifts or a sun shade… If you know what you are doing adding additional sections allows you to build more complicated and versatile shelters….. simply put the elongated hexagon is better at taking a two dimensional shape and molding it into a three dimensional shelter without wasting material in folds or internal volume in useless dead space

Hear ya ,yes I am familiar with what you are talking about( haven't personally used). And no worries I take no offense. 😁 I do like the versatility of using a tarp, and have fun making different shelters all the same. I ride motorcycles as well and have built some customs over the years. I would say same with bikes to other gear , we all have our individual style. 😁 What works for one doesn't work for others . Just as long as we have fun, and respect the wild, most important. Cheers

Thanks, lol , yes we do ! Mud has a history for me. As a boy I grew up watching the Looney Tunes , and there was a Bugs Bunny cartoon . In it he says my name is Mud , thats dum spelled backwards! 😜 I laughed so hard hahaha! Years later it became my first video game name in the arcade then Nintendo and such. I am also a musician ( bass player mostly) but play other instruments as well. So as a teenager the band Primus with lead bassist Les Claypool I was very influenced by, came out with there song ,My name is Mud. Lol, it's been my own personal nickname for myself for a long time . 😆
