She has a song about being proud of her productivity (I can do it with a broken heart). But all of her work has been dipping in quality! Her merch is terrible, the latest re-recordings triggered quality complaints because of e.g. mixing issues, TTPD is a huge step down compared to her previous work... Girl, are you being productive? Or are you overworking and putting out poor quality content?
@kf5338

It makes sense why she's thinking like this, though - her fan base buy everything, no matter how poor the quality. She thinks she can just release all of her songs because the Vault tracks were so hyped. But a lot of the Vault tracks have been so bad that I listen to them just once. She needs to learn to edit herself again

When constructive criticism is misread as insults, there’s no room for growth. That’s the issue with Swift, Drake, and a half dozen acclaimed artists who aren’t challenged (or challenging themselves) at all.

Look what happened to Dua. She was mocked and critiqued for her horrible dancing and lack of stage presence. She went, trained, and now she’s becoming a pop icon (imo). Like I actually respect her a lot as an artist. She saw that she had a lot to improve and she said “I’ll prove them all that I can do it” and she did. Do I think some ppl were unnecessarily mean? Yeah, but at the same time constantly bringing up that her skills were less than lacking, she and her label realized she needed to do something about it. So they did. Kudos to her for taking it all in stride. Now she’s taken the memes and made them iconic and worked them back into her favor.

Taylor used gay rights as her new aesthetic in the Lover era and even made a ✨stunning and brave✨doc about her coming out as a Democrat and then acts all mad when people are surprised that she associated herself with a controversial guy? I don't care who she dates and I think it's embarassing how some of her fans wrote her a letter telling her to break up with him, that's an insanely unhealthy level of parasocial relationship. However, she doesn't get to be shocked if people are disappointed to see her date a guy like Matty Healy, it makes it seem like she just used gay people to promote her music. It's so dumb how her hardcore fans are acting like she "ate up all the haters" when the only person she embarassed is herself and exposed how she really only cares about social justice issues when it benefits her.

(Saying this as a long-time massive fan) I feel like this album feels different because for the first time, her writing is aware of her god-like status. It feels incredibly parasocial, self-conscious, and yet cocky somehow. You said that it feels like she's trying to prove something, but to me it almost feels like she thought her pen was inevitably made of gold? I can only attribute the cringier lines to that kind of blindness, and I'm not saying this in a hateful way. I don't think the writing's bad; I think it's inconsistent and there's a reason why. You need to have a strong (and kind of misguided) sense of self-importance to think that lyrics such as “Tattooed Golden Retriever” are worth even jotting down. It's just interesting as a psychological phenomenon because she's always written from the perspective of trying to prove her writing to the critics, but now she clearly knows that the industry is wrapped around her finger. I understand that her writing style will continue to change for as long as she lives, I just need her new influences to settle and mix to match with her style. I was going to write a post about how she still acts like a teen. Like with a majority of people what become famous when they're still developing, she was stunted and keeps acting that way. Her music was always too juvenile for me and she's only one year or two years older. 22 sounded like a teen daydreaming about their entering their adulthood.
@tjc4085
@tjc4085 10 днів тому
you’re commenting under a comment that speaks about how her music has moved away from being light hearted bops - why? Coz she’s a grown ass woman who obviously doesn’t resonate with that. It’s true that when you grow older, life becomes more complex, grey. You lose thag youthful fervour and that’s obviously reflected in her songs. I don’t get how you listened to her album and got a “childish” vibe. There were songs that took on a girlish character but the topics were very adult - desiring another when depressed in a relationship, the psychology of fame, giving up on someone a relationship after you give it everything you had, naively thinking you can change a man. Are adults saints
@ProtectedAndHappy
@ProtectedAndHappy 7 днів тому
@@tjc4085Those topics you mentioned are childish. Successful, attractive, secure adults do not think they can change others. Most adults in their mid 30’s don’t even have relationship drama. They’re usually married or they know what they want and they don’t entertain much else. It’s not her fault she’s emotionally stunted. But it’s not helpful to act like she isn’t.

Also can I just add that the inspirations from Lana del Rey are so on the nose? The opening line for the title track is , diction wise, the exact same for mariners apartment complex “You left my typewriter at my apartment, straight from the tortured poets department” “You took my sadness out of context, at the mariners apartment complex” Not to mention other blatant inspirations - almost perfect copying of Lana such as the mention of Chelsea hotel, “daddy” usage, the themes of the fatalist lover, the themes of melancholy and dispair and poetry. It feels like she’s trying to become a more commercially successful version of Lana del Rey. I’m not saying that Lana OWNS any of those styles but the similarities are uncanny

The idea of her creating a song about his depression leaves me conflicted. Living with someone who has endured mental illness, I get that it's a tough journey. Yet, there's something about it that just doesn't sit right with me.

She has a song in which she says "There's no such thing as bad thoughts, only your actions talk" it doesn't matter if it was her intention to portray him some way or another, her fans are being horrible with him, and now the narrative is "he stole her youth by locking her on a cage and not letting her shine", now I listen to renegade and feel bad for him, she doesn't care how it can affect other people and how disgusting it is to let anyone know you have depression

I dont think she cares enough, she mentions Kim's daughter on one of her songs. i dont doubt that taylor is talented and knows how to play the game, but she's not that creative and should take a break from releasing music. 31 tracks and none of them stand out. like, she's in such a sweet spot in her career, which is so rare to get when you're in your mid 30's. anything she does will do well, so she might as well experiment and try to be more original and creative, but she's still doing generic shit with pretentious lyrics. folklore was what made me really interested in her work, but everything after that sounds bad (except the rerecordings). we all love a breakup song, but god, give it a rest.

I couldn't agree more. Like this album doesn't even compare to folklore, evermore, 1989 nor reputation. Even midnights is far better than TTPD, I only loved one song which is "Guilty as sin?". As a swiftie, I'm tired of those other swifties being delusional and saying that this is her best work, like what? Jack Antonoff is holding her back with his repetitive ass production, like she's like a billionaire now it doesn't hurt to get new producer. It's not like she's going to betray her best friend Jack, like c'mon now.

I started feeling that TTPD wasn't such a good album, but now I haven't stopped listening to it, I understood the songs better and I liked it, it's in my top three, so, yes, people start with an opinion and then it changes. I just feel like some songs can be a little bit controversial like thank you aimee, like, why go back to this issue of the fight between them, but at the same time, she didn't mention anything about Kanye, that is, maybe she realized that he is not well mentally or that he did it for attention, but she will never forget what Kim did because she had no reason to hate her, I evaluate this song that way. Lastly I just wanted to say that this album was exactly what she wanted with fame, she grew up too much to be able to release a work simply for herself and not for the media, so I say that this album is like a diary because that's right, a collection of songs that were not made with the intention of making a profit or telling a story but rather a kind of mental escapism where she can reveal how she is and how she wants to be

The conflict between production, melody, and wordiness is really interesting to me because it reminds me of Bob Dylan, who's her polar opposite in terms of culture and counterculture. Taylor's writing is beginning to be mythicized just the same, tho. You don't necessarily hear people critiquing the lack of musicality in Dylan's later records-they just say it's not for everyone and that it's the lyrics that matter. For Taylor, though, I wonder how she'll reconcile that with her mainstream-pop-artist status. I feel like her writing will eventually be studied widely in academia (in fact we've seen that happen in recent years) just like Dylan's, and as such, she will be judged in harsher, more rigorous ways. As in, nobody denies Dylan's writing skills, but critics, scholars, and fans do agree that there are bad Dylan albums. I believe that's what's in store for Taylor; eventually her pop-titan status will be traded for a quieter, more objective devotion from a more niche audience. Just like purists and Dylanists, only old Swifties and new Swiftists will stay. It really is fascinating to witness her transition from a celebrity to a myth real-time.

As a Swiftie, I'll say that this album was a huge disappointment. I mean, it's not bad but she tried to sell it as her best work ever, the title is way too much for what the lyrics are saying, and no, I don't think they "don't make any sense", cause they do, and they are universal as usual, making it easily relatable to a lot of people, but even with that, the poetry is not that great in here, I think Midnights had better lyrics, Maroon, The Great War and Snow On The Beach easily beat mostbof the lyrics in Poets. About the production, this was the first time an album from her made me go "again?", it's like Midnights but soulless, with only a few exceptions like The Alchemy, Florida!!!, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived or Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me. I think that the second part of the album is more poetic, but evermore and folklore would win a fight against it. I've been trying to like it more, but I don't think I'll love it that much in the future.

this album seems like it is meant only to appeal to ardent swifties, people who know all the "lore" about her life and fawn and obsess over it. I don't see how anyone outside her cult would enjoy these songs because they simply don't appeal outside from her spilling specific "tea" about her life in the lyrics. her songwriting is incredibly rote on midnights and TTPD, it seems like she is on auto-pilot, which is disappointing as a casual listener who really came to respect her songwriting with folklore-evermore. it's nice for her fans that she keeps feeding them, but I think she needs to take some time to really craft some new ideas for her music. I don't expect her to really get experimental or try something new because that's never been the kind of artist she is. but I just get frustrated when her fans try to argue she is the best artist/songwriter working right now, when she simply is not

I don't fully agree. I don't care about the lore and I still enjoy a lot of the songs on the album. I think the problem is, it's just too many songs and many sound similar and bland at first. It takes time to like this album. If you like Folklore and Evermore (which are my favourites too), I think you will find a lot to like in this album, both in the standard edition and the Anthology part (which sounds a lot like Evermore). Reputation left a bad taste in both my and my sister’s mouths, Taylor had clearly become a sour person and let the album be a bunch of sour grapes, a friend of mine who worked at Walmart at the time told me that the album was having trouble selling at his store, that they were overstocked. Lover didn’t hit the same after Reputation had left such a stain. Listening to evermore and folklore felt like a Renaissance for her, but Midnights and this current album just feel disillusioned. I just cannot listen to an album riddled with matty healy references because every time, that clip of him laughing about j*cking off to “gh*tto gaggers” and his ex’s disgusted reaction to a “black woman being absolutely brutalized” (his words) will come back to haunt me every time… as does the shocked and confused realization that she literally kept dating him for MONTHS after that interview first circulated. That was so much more disturbing to me than the ice spice comments and I was equally disturbed that featuring ice spice was all it took for the world to just pretend that part of the interview never happened.

And yet she calls the people who condemned him "judgemental creeps". Healy also has harassed women on camera, inappropriately touched women at his concerts, done the N*zi salute onstage, posted lists of deceased holocaust victims on his Insta, used the death of George Floyd to promote an album, and much more. "Creep" doesn't begin to describe him. The amount of people defending him is pure white privilege and apathy to bigotry/abuse.

Problem is straight men don't Pay attention to pop culture topics like Taylor, so they don't know about her petty vindictive out of touch personality that has always shown itself in her music but more obviously than ever in this album, that's why all the men who date her go into it completely unaware of what she's like

HOWEVER a lot of the songs did really grow on me after a while which i was surprised by. I think releasing the double album was a mistake it was too overwhelming mightve been better to drop the anthology a week or two later, from a listeners perspective

Glad to see someone else didn't enjoy it as much as some of her other work. See, this is me coming off as a normal fan not a diehard Swiftie. If I like something, I'll give it props. However, if someone doesn't live up to the hype or isn't her best work; I'll let ya know! Despite being 30+ songs...I didn't enjoy enough of this double album to justify the 2 hrs spent listening to it. I mean could this be Swift fatigue in the same vain as superhero fatigue from Marvel? Could be, but I don't think that's it. There's been a massive over saturation of Swift over the past couple of years. For good reason I suppose and this isn't me hating on her success. It just seems that a lot of music is coming out from her and quickly. Of course, most of her releases are re-recordings of her original albums. So, when she finally puts out some new work you'd think it would be great! Midnights and Lover were shorter albums, but there were more songs from them that I loved compared to The Tortured Poets Department. Considering I never really followed any of the media around her relationship with that one guy that was bringing her bad press; all of those songs about that didn't matter to me at all.

The depression line by Taylor Swift is a direct criticism of how failing mental illness has become a trend or worst, a personality trait for the mentally ill to gain public sympathy. I agree with her on that: someone mentally ill is too messy for anybody else to handle and not chronically online, sharing and documenting their manic episodes.
@craftingranger7552
@craftingranger7552 10 днів тому
She was depressed too which makes it worse like she had just lost her life's work, her parter was checked out and after she finally left she had a tour, then was taken advantage of by a creep who ghosted her after promising marriage and kids just to have to do more shows while the world picks apart and obvious breakdown. She was close to death last summer and yall just watched

Not everyone who is mentally ill has manic episodes. That is only a symptom of bipolar disorder in psychiatry. True mania can also appear with thyroid issues or high dose of steroids. Does Taylor have a single song about her relationships where she is singing about the dissolution being her fault? Basically “I had a good man but effed things up” message or “I demanded too much of you and didn’t give you enough of Me” message, or a “If I could do things over I would do things differently” message. That would actually be refreshing This woman is in her mid thirties, has had like 20 exes, had a lot of struggles keeping but not getting a man and no one wanted to marry this chick??? She’s the lowest common denominator in all of these failed relationships/situationships and it can’t never be her fault but that’s how all her songs about relationships are framed. It’s BORING.

i disagree. i think this album is pretty experimental as a whole (not sonically perhaps, but lyrically and conceptually). she feels more honest than ever, and i like that she's open about her dark side (flaws) instead of worrying about her image like she usually does. if anything, it makes a point that she's not as great as people make her out to be which i think she was uncomfortable with (seeing Dear Reader).
@amyfalls
@amyfalls 10 днів тому
also, although some lyrics are weird, 90% of the lyrics written are very poetic and appealing. and like i said, her concept for this album (poetry forced into song) worked out the way she wanted to. it can definitely not appeal to everyone including yourself but i doubt she cared or intended for it to be for everyone. and honestly that's fine, you don't have to listen to every album out there if you don't like it

Not enough people are talking about how damaging it is to consider herself a “tortured poet”. The running narrative about the “tortured poet” is to PREVENT people from thinking that they need to be tortured to make good artistry as the “tortured poet” Schlick is known to be harmful - celebrating mental illness and romanticizing trauma. Yet she, a privileged white woman who come from relatively wealthy parents, not only feed into the tortured poet Schlick but also plays into it so shallowly. What exactly makes her “TORTURED”???
