I actually love the fact that this song is so short and ends kinda abruptly. It makes perfect sense. It symbolizes the relationship taylor is singing about. There was so much effort from her side but at the end she couldn't keep going alone in a one sided thing so she just suddenly stopped talking to him. The song ends abruptly just like their conversations did.

Verse 1] You went to a party I heard from everybody You part the crowd like the Red Sea Don't even get me started Did you get anxious though On the way home? I guess I'll never, ever know Now that we don't talk [Verse 2] You grew your hair long You got new icons And from the outside It looks like you're tryin' lives on I miss the old ways You didn't have to change But I guess I don't have a say Now that we don't talk Chorus] I call my mom, she said that it was for the best Remind myself, the morе I gave, you'd want me less I cannot bе your friend, so I pay the price of what I lost And what it cost, now that we don't talk [Bridge] What do you tell your friends we Shared dinners, long weekends with? Truth is, I can't pretend it's Platonic, it's just ended, so [Chorus] I call my mom, she said to get it off my chest (Off my chest) Remind myself the way you faded 'til I left (Until I left) I cannot be your friend, so I pay the price of what I lost (Of what I lost) And what it cost, now that we don't talk [Outro] I don't have to pretend I like acid rock Or that I'd like to be on a mega yacht With important men who think important thoughts Guess maybe I am better off now that we don't talk And the only way back to my dignity Was to turn into a shrouded mystery Just like I had been when you were chasing me Guess this is how it has to be now that we don't talk

Can we just all admire her lower register at 0:26 but in the same song hits the high notes from 0:54 🔥🔥🔥 yes she’s known for her songwriting but her vocals should also be acknowledged on the same level..!

It's so great that Taylor finally gets to own what should have always been rightfully hers and as an added bonus we get all the amazing From the Vault songs which I can't believe she kept hidden away all these years

Damn. The perfect tone and delivery of "now that we don't talk" that throws me back to that time, that person, and those feelings in screaming red colors

I'm creeped yet relieved due to this connection i deeply feel towards this song. The "I cannot be your friend" part, I can relate in a way like I can't downgrade from a lover to a friend 😂. Idk if it's the true meaning but thats the message I perceived, thanks Tay for this flawless tune

this song...after getting out of a toxic narcissistic relationship that left me grasping for more from someone who'd never intended to give it to me, entertained multiple other people, lied every day and gaslit me every day... it feels so healing in the best ways
